Aurora, Tavistock, New Hamburg

Where are we today ?
New Hamburg Ontario

We had a great overnight in Aurora and up bright and early. The gandkids were up and full of so much energy, made for a fun time early morning. My daughter Kim made a nice batch of blueberry scones for breakfast and a big pot of coffee. Chatting, playing with the kids and a caffeine fix we are on the road shortly after 9 am.
Me, Kaitlyn and Ella the neighbors dog

Back to the farm, picked up some crackers, cheese and kielbosa. I made up a nice tray to take to the Tavistock town hall for 1 p.m. the Stere Family Reunion.

Second Saturday in June every year. Suzie's gramma is a Stere and this reunion was started years ago with a pot luck dinner and many activities. Suzie's Gramma Malinda 97 ( tomorrow June 11th) and her two sisters Marion 87, Lorretta 84 are the last two surviving of the original 13 Stere's from many years ago. Their father John was born in Tavistock in 1878. Its is still going strong with about 160 relatives there to get together, eat an unbelievable pot luck meal including deserts socialize and participate in various activities.

everybody socializing and having fun
We sat with Gramma and out table went first so we had a complete selection of all the dishes. Too many to choose from. If you left there hungry it was you own fault. Me I just waddled away and had to get to work to burn some of those calories off!
my plate I tried to sample it all !

We got to chat with Amber Stere, Suzie's cousin's daughter who had just purchased the house  that we sold six years ago. The deal closed two weeks ago on a friday and they got married on the wrap around front porch that I made about 18 years ago. She and her sister went to school with my daughter Jessica, small town, small world. We have been invited to drop by and visit our old house and all its renovations that have been done, sometime this summer. Will be fun!

After the reunion and full tummies we returned home. Suzie hopped in the car to go visit her mom in the hospital and I took advantage of the shade on the passenger side of our coach to do a couple more hours of cleaning and waxing. Perfect day for it about 95f (35c) in the shade! Lovin this hot weather.
Omer waited for Suzie while I was waxing
Suzie got home and of course no supper tonight but we got to enjoy a wonderful summer evening with our books in the shade.
She is home and Omer likes being her footrest, as a bonus
he gets a back rub too !
Now its still a wonderful  evening, nice sunset but now 9 o'clock,
too dark to read and time to post the blog, good night all.
We had another great busy day, loving the weather, hope y'all had a great day too!

Thanks for the read.

  1. I love reunions ... reunions of all kinds. We have a family reunion each year in Port Angeles, WA. That's my mom's side of the family. Every few years we have a reunion in Texas on my father's side. What fun they are. Terry's family doesn't like reunions so they never have them. Boy are they missing out. Enjoy each other because that is really what life is all about.

  7. Your photos inside what we used to call the Memorial Hall years ago brought back memories. I still remember them building that & how long it took to put the concrete floor in. I drove right by there myself today on my annual Tavytown memories journey.

  9. My brothers friend was from Tavistock and every time my brother went to Kitchener to visit our sister, he had a standing order from a particular meat store in Tavistock for bacon. He claimed it was the best in Canada!

There is sure no doubt about whose dog Omer is!
