The begginning of our Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, meal number one and a Thanksgiving poem.

Where are we today?
clic on a pic to enlarge it
Much cooler weather now and for the next while, but we are busy and have things to do so not a problem. Started with an early morning rain but stopped by the time the sun came up. Only got to 14c (57f) not great for our Canadian Thanksgiving weekend.
At 7:30 am I went to the Plattsville arena to watch grandson number 5 on the ice learning to skate, he wants to play hockey as well. He is coming along and will just take some practice. Daughter number 2 on the ice giving him some lessons. First time that I have seen him skate was fun.
nice shot
Here is a Thanksgiving poem I have posted before and just love it, kinda says it all.

TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING,

BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP.

I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS,
I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.

THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED -

THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE,

BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION
WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION,

THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.

SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR,
AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.
GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,
PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.

I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,

'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.

I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY,
WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.
BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES....
HAPPY EATING TO ALL - PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY,

MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.
MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP.
MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS.
MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE,
MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

After the skate we got changed and we headed over to Tavistock for a wonderful Saturday brunch with most of Suzie's family, 18 adults and 10 children. We had a private room at Quelh's Restaurant that has some wonderful homemade food. The buffet today was turkey, dressing, rolled ribs, veggies, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, homemade squash soup, and a variety of homemade salads, pies and deserts, including coffee or water only $13.95 for adults, 1/2 price for children 6-12. What a great time and excellent meal we all had and a good price.
this the place
could not get everyone seated at once
only 5 of Suzie's Dad's Great Grands
could sit still for a pick
salad bar
Deserts
yummy salads
my main course,
love the rolled ribs!
And I tasted a tiny piece of rhubarb pie, sorry no pic (my favourite, I made hundreds in my restaurant). I am not really a desert person. Everyone satisfied and some returned home and some of us to Suzie's Sister's and BOL to chat and relax for a while. At 3 pm. A bunch of them went to the Tavistock arena down the street to watch their grandson play hockey. We headed home.
Was still nice enough to sit outside and read for a bit but was cooling down quickly, by 4:30 we inside. Just like the southwest desert, temp went from 65f to 54 F and dropping in about an hour. Thank goodness for our Mr. Heater keeps us so comfy warm inside on low. It is noiseless and just sips the propane, what a great investment 9 years ago. We are basically boon docking here at camp awesome. I worked on getting the homemade poultry dressing ready for tomorrow (I used Suzie's Mom's recipe that she just loves). We going to Daughter number ones' place in Aurora. Where we will enjoy our Thanksgiving/Christmas get together, 8 adults and all 7 of our grand children all together, looking forward to that.
Now after a wonderful lunch buffet like that we don't need a big supper, so our meal of choice this evening is popcorn and a sliced apple= perfect. We gonna eat big tomorrow too, with lotsa food, another Thanksgiving feast.
Hope y'all had a great Saturday and our Canadian friends are enjoying a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with family,  friends and too much food.. Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Loved the poem. We are used to cool Thanksgivings here in the US with it coming so late in November. Makes it easier to cozy up and eat!

  9. Interesting that you are leaving for the south on October 20th. I started south and have been in Kentucky waiting out the repairs in Florida due to the hurricane and will leave here for Florida on October 20th. For the first time in years I was able to visit Canada this summer (sans trailer) for visits to Niagara Falls and Montreal with my Canadian girlfriend who lives in Hamilton. Safe travels and perhaps our paths will cross.

  10. Glad you enjoyed some time in Ontario this year.
We don't usually go to Florida but will pass through Niagara Falls on our was to the American southwest.
