Wrapping up a few things and enjoying this wonderful fall weather.

Where are we today?
clic on a pic to enlarge it
Again a great night's sleep comforter and flannel sheets take care of the colder weather, no problem. Getting all tuned up for the southwest desert cold nights.
At 6:30 this morning I got a roast beef that Suzie has been craving out of our freezer, all prepped and into our "antique crock pot" Still works like a charm. Over 30 years old and still does the trick, not so pretty anymore but do we care? Not.
Also took the Turkey soup broth from the fridge, that I boiled down last night, skimmed off the fat and began simmering on low. Added the spices and veggies and just let it go, the longer the better.
Then at 7:30 this morning headed to Pettigrew's garage in town, Dale gonna install our other new tires and check out the car, brakes etc,, we  good until the spring. Thanks Dale!
Then home before 9 am gonna head out to New Hamburg for a few more things. Winter supply of our white extra old Canadian cheddar cheese from Oak Grove Cheese Factory that we love, in New Hamburg all vacuumed sealed and good for many months in the fridge.
nice morning skies
In New Hamburg I stopped at the Thrift Store and picked up a new (to me) pair of sleep pants, 3 bucks. Health food store some natural things we like, hearing place to some new parts for my hearing aide, a few groceries then home by 11 to finish up the Turkey noodle soup for lunch.
a few lunches here
tasty ? Yep
After lunch I could not resist this warm sunny day, so hopped on the mower for a hour or so and mowed the back couple acres here. Perfect weather for it, still in shorts and enjoying the sunshine.
Now to relax a bit and we can enjoy our e-readers outside and this wonderful fresh fall air. In the sun  it is wonderful.
our view enjoying the colours
Eventually time to finish up getting ready for supper. Roast out of the slow cooker to rest and make some Yorkshire Pudding. the British ancestry in me says we gotta do it ! But I cheat and use a mix, and it works wonderful
This crock pot has a plastic lid, the centre knob/handle is broken, but tin foil makes it good, the few times that we use it.

out of the pot and resting, covered it with foil
Yorkshire Pudding done to perfection
Now we had a roast beef dinner, a rare occasion for us but now Suzie is happy once again, roast beef leftovers too. Nothing more tender than a roast in the slow cooker, when we can do it. Especially with this cooler weather.
very tasty
Just another great fall day and only about 4-5 more days before we hit the road and slowly make our way south, hopefully the southwest. Route to be determined by the day as the weather allows.
Thanks for stopping by to check us out, always something to keep us occupied every day. Things to do a people to see.
Hope you had a wonderful day too!

Heading south Oct 20th

  1. I agree with you about a Roast of Beef in the slow cooker in a RV. Coming into the RV during the day/ or travelling down the road, nothing better than the aroma through out the day. I used to always kid my wife that at least she was going to feed me that night.

    1. It sure is a great way to make a meal, especially some meals, all in one pot too.
Nice to be fed every night.

  2. We love our crock pot. On hot days, Joe plugs it up outside. Roast is the best!

    1. It does a great job especially for a roast beef, that is more tender that way then on the BBQ

  3. Not sure what we'd do without our slow cooker. Roasts for sure but also chicken and soups and stews. Love it.

    1. It sure does come in handy, if I can't do it on the Weber Q, the slow cooker works great.

  4. Thanks for the idea for Sunday's dinner. We haven't had a roast in ages!

  5. You get more done by noon than most folks do all day. Great looking supper meal.

    1. I like to get things done early when I am most productive, then can relax and enjoy the afternoon.

  6. Have you seen or heard any reports about an instant pot--combination slow cooker, pressure cooker, etc?

    1. They sure were a great invention. We can get the mix here in Canada but have never seen it in the States. So quick and easy one egg , a bit of water and 1 tbs oil for the muffin cups, makes 6.
