Where are we today
clic on a pic to enlarge it.
After a good nights sleep, I slept in until after 4 am (thank goodness) much better than 2 am.. Coffees done, breaky done and a few walkabouts the Flying J. Waiting for the sun to come up. Sure is a busy spot 24 hours a day. Was cool this morning even at 7:30 am 44f. But we hooked up the car , dumped our sewage $7:50 here with our Good Sam card and we on the road heading west then south!A few minutes down the road we passed the Continental divide elevation 7,000 ft. once we turn off on to 789 we heading south and lower elevations. So nice to finally get off the interstate 80 onto a 2 lane road. We have been on I-80 since Monday in Pennsylvania, but we logged on a lotta miles.
Continental Divide 7,000 ft. |
789 heading south, finally |
Not far down the road we entered Colorful Colorado, more nice quiet 2 lane highway and next to no traffic no wind and no mountains, a few hills but nothing major, mostly downhill all the way, just like Al said.
A little further down the road we pulled into Meeker Colorado and stopped by the town park. This was our destination yesterday, but with the wind we changed plans. Thanks again to the Bayfield Bunch (Al, Kelly and Pheebs) for another great recommendation. But it was only 11:30 am so we had a wonderful picnic lunch by the river. Perfect stopping spot, would have been nice to spend the night here last night
this guy just downstream fly fishing |
I already had my shorts on was getting quite warm |
the park is under construction but the dump station is open cost $1.00 to dump and fill |
construction going on |
we crossed this bridge to the day use area for our picnic |
what a great place to relax a bit for lunch |
I-70 |
Nice winding roads following the Colorado river through the mountain passes and even had one tunnel through the mountain. No mountains to climb and wind to deal with, was a perfect travel day.
not a long tunnel but still cool |
interesting scenery |
all by ourselves, nice |
We decided tonight to make a Walmart Pizza. Not frozen and only 5 bucks. Of course I will customize it to make it special for us.
this what we bought |
add a few things that we like |
20 minutes in the oven was awesome and yes we have leftovers |
267 miles today |
Thanks for taking a peak and hope your day was a great as ours was.
Where have we been this Winter
Your getting yourselves into some mighty fine scenic country now. Don't be surprised if Moab is a bit congested because it has become so popular there with the young folks and all their off-road machinery. Could be hard finding a boon-docking spot. I can tell you where there is an overnight spot in Monticello later when you get down that way and when I see you getting down Mexican Hat way (if you go that way) I'll give ya a 'heads up' on something.......
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips Al we will see what we can find, then from there we heading to Pahrump NV. and check out Death Valley , Maybe not Mexican hat way have not looked that far ahead.
DeleteYou are really making tracks and moving down the road. It'll be nice to have a few days in Moab. Just think ... Arizona is just around the corner -- well, kind of.
ReplyDeleteWe are so looking forward to spending a few days here, and we are a lot closer to Arizona too.
DeleteI hope you get to see Arches National Park. We really like to visit there. There are lots of neat things to see around Moab.
ReplyDeleteArches is the main reason but will be checking out other things too.
DeleteLooks like you are enjoying the trip and new sights too. It is great to have help as well from fellow travellers.
DeleteThey travelled this route last year and is pretty rv friendly regarding steep grades, so took their advice and worked wonderful.
DeleteI don't think I'd leave the top down in the Walmart lot on my Lamborghini convertible.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if you have that much money your don't care?
DeleteYou are making good time and some nice scenery too. Sometime this winter, we would like to visit that park in Nevada also.
ReplyDeleteStarts getting cold here pretty soon, that is why we here now.
DeleteThat one photo could be titled...The Road To Nowhere. lol
ReplyDeleteYes you are right, but it got us where we wanted to go eventually.
DeleteWow, you really went out of your way unless you purposely did not want to take I-70 out of Denver and over the Rockies. Once you get to Moab, Take Rt 128 in your car along the Colorado and between the red cliffs for a spectacular ride. Drive it east and west as you will get two different scenes.
ReplyDeleteWE did not want the high mountain climb with our coach, it does not like mountains.
DeleteThanks for the tip.
Moab is one of my favorite places, so much there to see and do. :c)
ReplyDeleteWe will be checking out some things for a few days looking forward to it.
DeleteYou will love Moab and the surrounding area...it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteJust got here and already love it.
DeleteA nice stress free drive, rewarded with a stunning pizza! Perfection!
ReplyDeleteIt was a wonderful day and the pizza to finish it off was wonderful.
DeleteYou could stop and visit Bill's sister in Grand Junction.. oops.. she quit speaking to him years ago... okay.. stop in Parachute and visit his cousin Al... wait a minute... Al died last year. Well, I guess if it were us, we'd just keep movin' on......
ReplyDeleteLOL... that's what we did in Moab right now to hang out for a few days.
DeleteGuess we cleared out of Grand Junction just in time? We left Friday morning and drove through Moab down to Bluff, UT.
ReplyDeleteYou left in time to miss us I guess. it sure was nice when we where there on Saturrday
