Kind of a Relaxing Day..??

Thanks for joining us on our journey of North America
in our Holiday Rambler, since August 2006

Where are we today ?

The last few nights I have not slept too well. Lotsa coughing and stuff, congestion and phlegm, not breathing real good mostly when I try and lay down to sleep.  Thinking maybe I need to get this looked at sooner than later. So shortly after 10 am Suzie and I hop in our Saturn and motor out west on highway 7 and 8 about twenty minutes to Stratford. Stop and the Micky D's for an egg Mc Muffin then on the the Stratford General Hospital getting there about 11:00am, We don't know where the free parking is like Al (of the Bayfield Bunch) so we parked in the expensive parking $5. to get out. (ouch). We were at the same hospital at the same time as Al just in different areas, too bad we did not meet up again, last time was Quartzsite Arizona in January.

We are looking for Emerg to see a doctor about my breathing problem. We checked in here and  grab a seat in the waiting room. At least a dozen people here waiting ahead of us. We have a water bottle and our books. So we can relax and read. Even thou we prefer outside in a lawn chair, gotta do what we gotta do. Glad we had our books, it was about 2:30 when we were taken back to a bed where another nurse checked me out and said the Doc will be here shortly. An hour later Doc shows up check me out, then sends in a breathing specialist with an inhaler to see if that helps. Then sent out for lung x-rays and back to my bed again (hurry up and wait).

Ok now Doc comes back does an assessment with  the test results and told me a bunch of stuff, Suzie was there too, wrote me a prescription for an inhaler and said to check with our family Doctor in about 10 days. Ok now 5 hours after we arrived at the hospital we can leave fill the prescription and wait to get better, sure glad we brought our books. I think I feel better, lets see if I get a good sleep tonight, at least it is probably nothing serious.
Now find a Drug Store,  fill the prescription and think about something to eat. Its now 5 pm and all we had so far today was an egg McMuffin. Just down the road was a Kelsey's, don't think we have been to one for at least 10 years so lets grab a bite here. By this time we are starving, waiting in a hospital waiting room all day sure workis up an appetite.

So we started with a tasty caesar salad.
yummy caesar
Tops Sirloin for me
beer battered haddock for Suzie
Now we actually had an excellent meal and fantastic service, in a nice atmosphere, pretty good for a Roadhouse style restaurant. From here we stopped by Suzie's sister and brother in law's in Tavistock for a short visit before they headed out to their son Reid's hockey game at 7 o'clock.

Ok after a long relaxing ? day, back home compute a bit , put up our feet and relax some more, hope I can get a good nights sleep tonight.

  1. Sorry you've been sick. It's never fun or fast sitting in an emergency room waiting for a doctor. The wait is always hours. Hope you're on the road to recovery.

  4. I wonder if there might be something more especially because of the phlegm. Good that you went and had it checked out. Take it easy today, drink LOTS of water.

    1. That's why I went for tests and exrays. Doc says not pneumonia so no antibiotics needed. Contrary to what I thought, but I am not the Doc she is.

  5. That's the big difference between the US healthcare and ours. They pay out of pocket but are treated fairly quickly. Here in Canada as you said hurry up and wait! It will be wise to have a follow up visit with your personal MD in a week or two if you continue feeling down. You are lucky to be feeling better so quickly at this time.

    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. Yes you are right about the health care. And I do have an appointment for a complete physical in a couple weeks.

Drink lotsa water, hot, with lemon and honey! Brandy or hot rum toddy! Inhaler or two! (ventolin, plus maybe a steroid one). Hot bath/shower helps. Inhalation of steam with eucalyptus oil (pot of water over the stove). Or couple of drops of eucalyptus oil in bath. Elevate head of bed with rolled towel under the head. Stay warm!

Remember the musterole incident in the '60's?! lol (or was it mustard plaster?) Be careful with that stuff!

  7. Your day didn't start out so good, but it sure ended up well with that great looking dinner.

I don't think there's a whole lot of wait time difference in Emergency Rooms in Canada or the U.S. A few years ago, in Palm Springs we had to go to Emergency and it was an hours long wait there too - only, we then had to pay for it!!

    1. Emergency rooms I think are the same everywhere.

But dinner sure helped make up for it!
