Our last Easter get together this year

Thanks for joining us on our journey of North America
in our Holiday Rambler, since August 2006

Where are we today ?

Wore us out again yesterday, I slept even later this morning, like 7:15 a.m. wow! Its been years since I slept that long. Maybe because it was so cold and we have not put our comforter on the bed yet, just snuggle keeping warm, not wanting to get out of bed and turn the heat up. The comforter will go on tonight for sure. We must be healthy we have cold we noses, kinda reminds me of Eskimos, at least we don't have any snow.

I missed the sunrise this morning and kinda screwed me all up. What to do?  Ok juice, a coffee, compute a bit, but have to take a trip to Pettigrew's Garage in town to talk to Dale our A-1 Mechanic. Just need a bit of service then take our coach for an emissions test. (required every two years in Ontario) Another government money grab!

Back home I got the leftover ham out and trimmed it down  to the bone then put into a huge pot and simmer for a few hours to get a nice broth going  for the soup. Sandy will keep and eye on it then shut it down after a while. Oh it just smells so wonderful wish I could take a picture of the smell !

Now the plan today was to  get together at my mother's in Waterloo with my sister Louise and her husband, and brother Chris and his wife. Today worked for us because Sis and I are both retired but our baby brother  is (18 years younger) is still in the work force and Monday and Tuesdays are his days off.

They all travelled a couple hours to visit, us we are only 20 minutes away.  So to make things easy for us we decided to keep it simple and ordered in a family favourite, Swiss Chalet Chicken. This in all about the visit not about the food today and we did have a great time. Chin wagging and catching up is always fun to do. A nice size group just 7 of us but at least we could all socialize and enjoy each others company.

Shortly after 4 we all packed up and headed our separate ways back home, promising to get together sometime this summer. We will bring our house with us and stop by.

Back home again, I took our simmered soup broth bones and de boned the rest of the meat and strained the broth. Now it goes into the fridge to cool overnight and tomorrow, I will first skim off the hardened fat and finish it off with the veggies, beans and spices.

Then another bite to eat, (as if we needed it).  Some left over ham, rice, potato casserole, and tossed salad, kinda just filled a little empty gaps in our stomachs.

Now all the family get together's are done for this Easter, so nice to see everybody again after our six months way. Now the rest of the summer we will move around, different resorts, and visit more friends and family members again in smaller groups. Yes we do so love this lifestyle!

        Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Sleeping in every once in a while really feels good especially if it's cold outside and you're warm inside. You certainly have a lot of family in that area. It's good that you are there and get to visit with all of them.

  2. See that, "bringing your house" part, is something I miss. We used to enjoy staying in my brother's side yard on his farm in Nova Scotia. He wasn't one for having alcohol in the house (long story) so we could always "retire early" and maybe have a little tipple. No worries about sleeping in then.
Of course, at the time he had a stallion (Percheron I think) who was penned up in the barn, but would poke his head out the window and call out to the mares out in the field. Had to close him in, or there was no sleeping much passed six!

    1. Yes having our house with us is sure nice. We can have a nice visit and still have our own space. The dairy cattle here can sometimes wakes us in the morning too, but I guess we are used to them

  4. Happy we aren't back in Canada yet, still sounds too cold for us. That soup bone and broth sure looks good but I would have to make pea soup, not bean soup. My mother made the best pea soup ever! Enjoy the bean soup all the same though.

    1. Yes you are right, too cold for us too! I make a pretty mean pea soup myself ( my personal preference), but I just go with the flow.
