A great nights sleep with the cooler temperature 52F at5:30 this morning. Todays posting is mostly what we did yesterday at the
Forest Fall fair.
as we entered the Fairgrounds first thing was saw was lotsa horses we missed the horse show |
hirses and horse trailers everywhere |
We were in time for the demolition Derby that started at 1 pm with the stands full and lots people standing we got lucky and managed to get 2 seats, bonus.
These cars are prepped for the demo, all interiors and glass removed, Gas tanks removed (small gas can in its place, The rads are usually secure with straps makes them harder to get broken. Some have a large front bumper added. Ideally they drive backwards so as not to damage their engines and try to damage another car on the front end. Back in the 90's I helped s few friends prep their cars for demos, and painted a few, sponsored by my Restaurant Jessie's Diner in Plattsville. Great memories of those times.
We watched three heats for about an hour then checked out the rest of the fairgrounds. First time we have been here and we were very impressed for a small town.
the first heat, cars in the middle ready to start smashing up there cars, Some had survived from previous derbies |
this first heat was 4 cylinder cars |
bang smash, everyone enjoying and the drivers having fun |
from out seat in the stands |
looking the other way |
some amazing crashes |
Each heat lasted about 15 minutes and the winners are the last one or 2 cars still running, They will go into the finals.
skidsteer pushing the broken car out |
they would not run, lost tires, broken axels, driveshafts, rads etc.. |
between heats they water the area down, to make it safer for the drivers |
these be the large 6 cylinder cars |
somebody won a nice prize |
a few mini vans as well |
after an hour we checked out the fair |
Now to wander the midway, check out the games, rides and food vendors. Pretty standard fair stuff and quite a bit more than we expected.
prize every time |
I remember the tilt a whirl from my child hood |
spinning teacups |
nice ferris wheel |
Then inside one building to check out displays etc...
the booth promoting Rock Glen Resort |
This young lady has a Python for everyone to touch it is 5 feet long and 27 years old, too cool, no we did not touch it |
that pumpkin with the red ribbon won first prize here 590 pounds |
Back outside for more midway, it was such perfect sunny day not too hot.
always loved these bumper cars too |
Now we saw everything we wanted to see, and headed back home, but first I had to stop for a pogo, have not had once for a VERY long time
this satisfied my craving, tasty as always now have my fix for many more years |
Heading back to the car passed a few more hoses , love these tiny stalls they have outside here.
well tended horses |
That was yesterday, today is overcast and times mostly in the mid 60's. So I made a trip to Strathroy for a few groceries, and collect some PC points, to go towards our free groceries.
Back home for lunch and putter around for a while editing these above photos of the Fair and Demolition Derby.
Then reading outside for a while and then a nice Happy hour with Melinda, Gerry, Joe, Tucker and Choco. Always fun with these guys.
Choco wants to be my friend |
Tucker sucking up to Suzie |
Choco and Gerry |
They know Suzie has a treat as usual |
Tucker gives Suzie a kiss and gets a treat |
he knows the signal and waits |
Then at 5 Pm Suzie's Dad and friends arrived to go out for supper with us. They wanted to go to Skeeter Barlows in Forest for some Broasted Chicken, No problem we do love their broasted chicken.
This be the place |
We got seated right away and all started with a salad, Then we all shared a 1/2 chicken dinner with fries and veggies, more than enough.
tasty Caesar we share |
Suzie here, her dad in the corner and another couple came along as well we have met before |
They got together to make a whole mess of Applesauce and were nice enough to bring us a couple of large containers, Nothing like homemade applesauce, especially in season.
my half of this large meal |
Suzie got what she wanted as well, we did not go away hungry |
After Supper they came back to our campsite to visit for a short while and chat. And visit, is nice to see her Dad again . out and about doing things with his friends
That was our busy fun day, a bit cooler but still not too bad at all.
Thanks for taking time to stop on by.

DeleteThat is one big pumpkin.
ReplyDeleteWas never a fan of pogos because of the coating but glad you enjoyed it!
Nice that Suzie's dad and friends came for a visit and dinner out.
That sure is a huge pumpkin . Not crazy about the pogo's either , but just had to have one.
DeleteIt was very nice to see her Dad again especially here.
Demolition derby ... haven't seen one of those in ages!! The carnival rides look fun, except for those that turn you upside down. Love love the puppies. How could you not love those faces!!
ReplyDeleteIt has been a few years for us as well seeing a derby. The carnivals at fun but we re past that now especial upside down.
DeleteTh puppies are always fun to see.
That was one full day!! The fair looks like so much fun and a good demolition derby is so much fun to watch! Haven't had a corn dog in years, but looks so yummy! Your gathering for dinner looks like fun and good food. That salad looked delicious!
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun filled day. This demolition derby was pretty good , we enjoyed it. The corn dog satisfied my craving. Dinner with Suzi's Dad and friends was fun the chicken good as always and the salad very tasty.
DeleteI've only seen a demolition derby on TV but I can imagine they are fun to watch in person and very loud.
ReplyDeleteThey are fun to watch, but the smaller cars are not nearly as loud and the big old v-8s from years ago.
DeleteThere hasn't been a 'Demo Derby' around here in a very long time. Looks like a fun day at the fair.
ReplyDeleteThe demo derby are fun , and fair pretty decent for a small town.
DeleteHaven't seen a demo derby in decades, do they still have the track in a figure eight? Pogo dogs; Shelagh loves them, me not so much. The fair looks like a fun time.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a while since we have seen one too. Have not seen the figure eight for a couple of decades though. The pogo's are ok, I just had to have one. Used to serve them in my restaurant years ago. And the fair was fun as well.
DeleteNice fair. Or country fair in our hometown has had a demo derby for at least 45 yrs. It's always a huge success.
ReplyDeleteIs a pogo a corn dog? If so, I still enjoy having one once in awhile. Your dinner looked good... some broasted chicken sounds really good.
Tge fakir was fun and the demos have been going here for years as well. Yes the Pogo is a corn dog, they call the different names same thing. Once in a hiuwle is ok but nit may favourite. Now Broasted chicken is something we really love too.
