A great sleep last night and up early as usual, heading to a Steria Family Reunion in Croghan New York this weekend. And being a long weekend we wanted to get and early start and hope for the best.
We had our coach secured and car hooked up by 8 am and her Dad arrived then as well. Did not take us long to get on the road, 8:15 am we are rolling along.
|
317 miles today |
|
he we are all hooked up a ready to roll |
|
her Dad belted in the the recliner and books to read |
Now we had great sailing right along, hwy 401 through Toronto and no delays at all. pulls into the ONroute before 11 am at Port hope and grabbed a bit at the Burger King here just because we could, and enjoyed this rare treat.
|
early lunch stop |
|
the highway was clear sailing |
We had just passed the Big Apple and a highway sign saying the 401 east is closed at least and hour delay! Apparently a very bad accident. So we stopped at the Flying J in Napanee to fuel up and check our options. Looked like we could try HWY 2 throughKingston and back on the 401. Well this worked very well until we got to Kingston, Them gridlock, stop and got traffic right through town with the roads most at a standstill. So for 2 hours we managed to travel about 20 miles.
|
downtown Kingston |
East of Kingston back up to the 401 HWY to find that it was still closed here, back down to HWY 2 further east then finally hopped back on the 401.
Here we came to the border crossing over the 1,000 bridge into New York State.
|
love the view from this bridge |
|
border crossing no problem and no lines bonus |
|
wonderful quiet country roads loving it |
Eventually we arrived at the Village of Croghan NY shortly after 6 pm over 2 hours later than we had planned. But at least we are here.
We pulled into Laurie and Dave's place set up our coach, met these relatives we have never met before and received and extremely warm welcome. So glad that we choose to drive our coach, so much more comfortable for travelling and we dp have food and facilities right on board, so we can sit in traffic forever if need be , we are right at home weather here or in a campground.
|
parked at Laurie and Dave's |
We barely got set up and Laurie had us over to her Mom and Dad's house next store, Her mom had whipped up a large pot of chili, wonderful tasty salad, homemade cookies and jello with mandarin oranges.
|
Suzie and Laurie heading next door |
|
what a salad |
|
excellent chili sure hit the spot |
|
a tasty desert to wrap it up |
Chatting and getting to know each other talking about so much family history, I headed home just After 8 pm time to kick back and call it a night. Looks like they have a busy agenda planned for us tomorrow so we will need our rest and the family reunion on Sunday.
|
a nice decent sunset soon gonna call it a nice. |
It was a good travel day nonetheless , just now crazy about 10 hours of travelling in one day, we should have been able to do it in 7. But then again,it is what it is. We having fun anyway.
Thanks for taking the time to stop on by and hope y'all had a wonderful day as well.
Where have we been this summer ?
Cannot handle those long days anymore. Glad you're there getting to know family.
ReplyDeleteWe are not crazy about the long travel days anymore but can still do them.
DeleteThat was one long travel day. The important part is you made it safe and sound and will be able to enjoy a wonderful weekend with family.
ReplyDeleteIt was a long one but we good now., it will be a fun weekend.
DeleteThe detour makes a long day longer, how often do you switch drivers? The salad Laurie's folks fixed up looks more like an antipasto, perfect with the chili. Welcome back to the USA, continued safe travels.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeff feels good to be here eve if for only a short time.. I do all the driving, though Suzie could If needed. The salad was perfect with the chili maybe was an anti pasta, not sure but was tasty.
DeleteThat is a long travel day but the main thing is you got there Safe and Sound.
ReplyDeleteSeems everyone gets stuck in Traffic Backups sooner or later.
Enjoy the Reunion!
It's about time.
It was a pretty good travel day though, being the long weekend we expected heavy traffic anyway so not a surprise. And being in the motorhome makes it comfortable.
DeleteGlad you made it safely, in spite of the delays. Looks like fun having a family reunion with a chance to get to know new relatives, or new to you at least.
ReplyDeleteSure will be fun thanks.
DeleteEnjoy your time with family.
ReplyDeleteWe will thanks.
DeleteGlad the only problem was a delay.
ReplyDeleteYes we were too.
DeleteOne perk about traveling in a coach is that when you get stuck in traffic you still have food, a bathroom, and a comfortable place to wait. Been there, done that, and was so very glad we were in our coach.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right Dizzy!
DeleteGlad you made it there safely! Traffic can certainly delay the best of plans, but you got there! Suzie's dad looks happy and comfortable in his seat. Dinner looked really good and at the end of a long day nice to know you didn't have to cook. Enjoy the reunion as I'm sure you will!
ReplyDeleteIt was a pretty decent day and a nice meal waiting here for us too.
DeleteI always get a kick out of sitting in traffic in the MH with people in cars looking longingly at you knowing you have a bathroom and they don't. :cD
ReplyDeleteYes we do the same thing as well, as you know a non issue, lol.
