Where are we today ?

We had a bit of wind and rain overnight and more of that this morning until about noon. No matter we were busy here setting up the house with tables and chairs for 35 people. This is our first Canadian Thanksgiving dinner with Suzie's Family. Then the skies cleared and warmed up we were good for the rest of the day. Rose put 2-10 lb chickens in the electric roaster, and readied 15 lbs of potatoes and I heated up a 5 lb Black Forest Ham.
In the meantime I made up some fresh Cranberry sauce with orange zest to take to my daughter's tomorrow. For that recipe you can click
HERE or my recipe blog top right side bar.

fresh cranberries and orange zest, yummy ! |
By noon people began arriving, bringing salads, stuffing, fruits, veggies and deserts. I began carving the chickens and put them back in the cooker to keep warm.
their 3 grand daughters were the first to Arrive, and bean cruising around in their Caddys |
These 2 -10 lbs chickens were done so I set to carve them up.
ready to go. |
getting things done. |
As people arrived the kids played outside adults got together around the house, on the deck or in the back yard. Nice to see everyone again.
Carl and Sonya from Ottawa brought some nice fall flowers |
chickens ready to serve |
most of us here , sorry about the blurry picture |
Now buffet style so easy with 35 people, in 2 separate rooms and 5 large tables. Chicken , Ham, creamy whipped potatoes, mixed veggies, gravy salads, buns, veggies and dip.
we had a very good selection |
was so very tasty, and I tried not to overdo it but we eating at 1 pm so have the rest of the day to wear it off |
4 tables in the front room as well. |
This done the the deserts came out, pumpkin pie , chocolate cream pie, tarts, cookies and fruit. was all good. I tried a small piece of chocolate cream pie, yummy. I used to make them about 20 years ago in my restaurant.
Now the feast was done, tidied up rinsed plates and load the dishwasher. We all back outside enjoying this perfect warm sunny afternoon. We enjoyed conversations, played yard games and overall had a great afternoon. A few had to leave fairly early to put some of the young ones down for a nap. Suzie's brother and his son had to leave for chores at the farm, Dairy cattle need to be milked.
the Caddy's got a lot of use |
everyone got a chance to go for a cruise, the batteries had to be recharged with all this use. |
what a perfect day |
Then a few of the guys were hitting golf balls back to the green, a very nice set up here in their yard.
teeing off |
the green back there in front of those trees |
The the bean bag toss got into some heavy duty competition for the rest of the day.
Now about 5:30 there was still about 20 of us here so Rose set out some cold cuts, cheeses, buns, crackers, more veggies and a bit of left over salad and pie.
all so tasty |
not really to hungry, so just a light snack hit the spot |
This was done so we cleaned up the tables and dishes again, stacked all the extra chairs and tables they had borrowed from the firehall and put all the furniture back into place.
while doing this I noticed the cat "Gus" just climbing out of our car through the open window. Wonder if he found a mouse there? |
Shortly after 7 pm most everyone headed on home and Suzie's Dad as well. House all cleaned up now we can go to our home in the driveway. Put our feet up, post this blog and relax.
What a way to end a perfect day with a wonderful sunset |
We can relax for this evening and tomorrow we are heading up to Aurora (about 90 minutes away) to have another Thanksgiving get together with my family and all the Grands. Looking forward to see all of them as well. Should be about 15 of us if everyone makes it.
Thanks for stopping by and hope y'all had a great fall Sunday on our Canadian Thanks Giving long weekend. And the Columbus Day long weekend in the United States.
