We are parked at John and Lea's quite 4 acres at the edge of the Plattsville subdivision and the weather today is absolutely perfect. Sunny and hot, but we have a few shady spots to move around to, and nice inviting pool. As I was posting our blog a friend in town contacted me on a chat line and said coffee is on come over, so around the corner to visit Marc and Erin for a some fresh caffeine and a nice visit. Then a cruise around the village and back to our house.

Then putter around to help our hosts get ready for the party to begin at 2 pm. Two pigs were put on the rotisseries to get cooking, 170 lbs weight in total, alota pork. The portable toilet was moved into position with a neighbours loader, everything was coming together. Like John said ready or not it will happen!

Their Place
I went for a short walk across the road to the lazy Nith river, that runs thru town, still a wonderful site that we enjoyed for so many years. Stopped and chatted with a few neighbours we haven't seen for a while then back home to grab a bite for lunch.
Slowly people began to arrive thru-out the day, with the weather remaining perfect. Lots of children and friendly dogs. Meeting people, chatting and watching all the kids in the pool, swings and trampoline even the dogs were entertaining. Mid afternoon the band arrived and set up, ready to play from 5 to about 9.30pm. The pigs were finished cooking, and the first one carved as people began to line up for platefuls of food. I attempted to count the people and estimate about 200 or so at every given moment. The first 90 lb pig was finished very quickly so the second was carved promptly to feed the hungry fun loving people. Then the two Canada Day cakes were brought out for the desert lovers in the crowd
The Band
Again after supper with appetites satisfied we chatted and listened to the lively band, kids burning off energy, still splashing in the pool, and the dogs once again putting on a show for everyone here. Finally the band wrapped it up about 9:30 the kids had sparklers, and the great fireworks display began about 9:50pm lasting close to twenty minutes.
Now after all this excitement and a long day we called it a night, time for us to relax. But we noticed others gathered round a nice big campfire, guess we are getting old.
Thanks John and Lea for a great camping spot, good food and music, a fun day and fantastic fireworks display. What a great way to celebrate Canada's Birthday.
Kevin and Ruth: They ask for a $5:00 per person donation towards the fireworks, and this covers everything. they certainly don't make any money for sure!!! Fire works alone were over seven hundred dollars, plus the live band, plus the two pigs and people to cook them, snack etc....super couple, they just enjoy the good times in a small town....
Wow, looks like the perfect day. Nice to have such great friends.

ReplyDeleteYes it was a great day, good friends and perfect weather!
Sounds like a great day. Does everyone pay a fee, for all this? What great people John and Lea are to have a great party like this.
