Chalk board back out, and some info on replacing in tank fuel pump on our 1999 Hoilday Rambler Ford chassis

Where are we today ?
Here we are back in Plattsville at "Camp Awesome"  not where we planned to be but rv'ers plans are written in chalk. Coach repairs and very high expenses we had not  planned on so it was time to bring out  the Chalk board again. Go from Plan A to Plan B. This is a Labor Day long weekend so relaxing here in the wonderful hot weather works for us. Peace and quiet, a shady place in the country, fresh air, a nice breeze and a wonderful pool if we need.Whats not to like?
We need to relax and rethink our travels. This year has not been very kind to us regarding making plans. So the chalk board below will tell you our plans. We not writing much cause we don't know.  But thats ok we love to wing it and play it by ear. No matter where we go or want to stay there is always a place to spend the night. It always an adventure. How long we stay here right now? Don't know but at least the weekend, where to next? Don't know but thats ok, actually wonderful.
So today relax and enjoy this weather. I mowed some lawn, (thought I was done for the year) Enjoyed our e-readers in the shade. With humidity feels like 36c (97f)
and a nice refreshing dip in the pool
Supper was an easy one make a salad to go with our leftover Chinese from the other night=perfect !
Chinese all over again
Now to recap a bit of the fuel pump installation it was at the shop at Sicards for 3 full days. It was a major job as I already knew, I did not and neither did my mechanic have the equipment to do it.
In there Wednesday morning for 8 am. A few quick tests were done just to reconfirm the diagnosis. Fuel pressure 15-24 lbs needs to be over 28. The coach was driven on ramps then lifted and put on jack stands rear wheels about 2 ft off the ground. They said our Mechanic Dale has done everything that need to be done other than the fuel pump.
Try to locate the bolts I find them but you cannot see them or access them, so 4 access holes had to be cut from inside 4 compartments.
one access hole
The levelling jacks had to be removed as the jack support is directly below the middle of the tank. Not only that the fuel tank was install on the frame before they built the coach, The nuts on the inside accessed from above and no way to put a wrench on them. The mechanics did finally get them loose, tank dropped, new pump installed and replaced 2 feet of fuel line for the generator as well that had been chewed by some nut eating varmint.  When they reinstalled the tank welded the nuts on this time, the way Ford should have done in the first place.
Three full days in the shop and was all done, everything is fine, genny works, fuel pressure 32 to 40 lbs right where it need to be. These guys have the equipment to lift the coach and did an awesome job. We were billed only 16.5 hours plus parts (couple hundred dollars but is now done the right way. We were treated very quickly and fairly so no complaints there. Sicard  Rv is the place.
Just the extra expense that was not planned for this year, on top of 2 new tires, extra prescriptions not cover because we were leaving for more that 6 months and very high out of province insurance this year, we need to cut corners some where, so we hang out here in Ontario a bit longer before heading south somewhere warmer than here this winter. And get a rebate on our insurance as well.
That was our fun day enjoying this wonderful long weekend weather.
        Thanks for taking a peak.

Check out the interactive map below to see where we have been this Spring and Summer.

  1. What a terrific attitude you have.... I can just see you going through the alphabet of lists making and re-making plans and never batting an eye! And making delicious meals along the way.....

Life gives you lemons you make lemonade, to go along with a good meal and then we can go for a drive somewhere.

    1. That's right we could be mopping around because of it but we can't change things so we make the best of it. That way we can get up in the morning with a smile and enjoy another wonderful day to be alive.

  3. So sorry that you have had to change your plans, luckily it will all be there next year for you to visit. Hopefully things will go much more smoothly then. In the meantime, at least you can still get out on the road and head south even if it ends up being a little later than you had planned. Enjoy the rest of your weekend! Your weather is a whole lot better than ours.

    1. You are right all those places will still be there, maybe give it a shot next year.
Meanwhile we will enjoy this weather, while we can.

  4. That did turn into some job. I wouldn't have thought it so extensive but being on the road, we sometimes have expenses we didn't plan on. We just hope they are little ones. Sounds like yours wasn't so little.

  6. Totally understand the needing to stay somewhere longer because of unexpected expenses. That really does seem to be part of our world now and like you, I hope we take it in stride. Chalk and jello are our friends. And now you are good to go with a rig that you can trust.

  10. Glad to read that you fixed both problems at once.
We know what you mean about unplanned expenses.
We like to write our plans in Jello that way if we have to eat our words they are much tastier than chalk.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. We use both but the chalk board has an eraser and we can share it with each other.
Never eat our words just change the plans. Easy peasy. We don't make reservations so not a big deal.

  11. If I tried to use a chalk board for planning, I would go through $100 in chalk a month. Have fun wherever you are.
