Hockey practice, purging more stuff, lawn mowing and relax for a bit.

Where are we today ?
Yep cold again last night and this morning, frost on the pumpkin (and the car windows) at 7:30 this morning when I headed down to the garage after coffee's and computing. Hang out with the guys for a bit, then pick up Suzie and to the arena in town for a 9 till 10 practice game for grandson number 4. It was fun watching his progress and chatting with the locals.
Then we wandered over to the local restaurant for a light breakfast (again a rare treat for us). Back to watch Grandson number 1 on his practice  from 11 till 12. It is great to see how much they are improving with their skills. Pictures are not the best through 2 panes of glass, but you get the idea.
Got a call to be at Ma's house for 12:30 someone picking up free stuff. Made a mad dash there and they did not show? Another couple calls and a father and son came by at 2:15 to pick up the dinning room suite. They even moved the last large display cupboard into the garage for us. Nice guys they were. We have been trying for quite a while to sell these items real cheap, no calls.
So it was either rent a truck and donate them to a Good Will store or have someone pick it up for free. More cost effective to give it to someone who will pick it up and make use of it, than pay to donate these items that nobody wants to buy. I have done this before and know how it goes.
It is unbelievable how many calls we got from people who wanted these free pieces of furniture delivered for free!
So basically the house is now empty, just a few boxes left to take to the thrift store next week, that we can do with our car. We will do a final cleaning of the house and it will close the end of this month.
Back home by 3:30 and I got another 40 minutes of lawn mowing before the deck quit again. That is making progress too, for the last cut of the year. John has diagnosed the problem and it needs a new rectifier for the charging system, he will fix it hopefully this weekend if he has time.
Then did get to relax outside and read for a while in a sunny warm spot (too cold in the shade).
Then fired up our Weber Q grill some chicken breasts, one each for supper and one for  Suzie's lunch sandwiches. Also some fresh cauliflower in foil with red onion and olive oil added to another tasty salad sure hit the spot.
yep still grilling on our Weber Q
so quick and easy did the trick
That was our busy day again, family stuff tomorrow, a nice Canadian Thanksgiving get together with Suzie's family.
Hope you and a wonderful day doing whatever it is you enjoy. Thanks for stopping on by.

  1. Do you remember the last time you were on the ice? Is there no one like the Salvation Army who will pick up those items? They do here.

    1. 20 years ago I roller skated maybe 30 for ice skates.
Here there is quite a few places, we contacted over a dozen, but not until November now and the house closes at the end of October. And no older appliances, no Tv's over 5 years old, no furniture if somebody smoked in the house or has pets. And Ma smokes in her house and has a cat. So not much we can do.

  2. When we sold stuff on Craigslist, people were always asking...If we buy your furniture, will you deliver free? Our answer...No. We weren't going to take the responsibility of carting furniture all over the area. In your case, you are giving it away free. What is the matter with people asking such a crazy question like....Will you deliver a free item for free. Just crazy.

    1. You are so right. If we had a truck would just load it up and take it to a thrift store. Some people have the nerve.

  3. When we were getting rid of items for our house sale, there were items we gave away for free. We got similar calls from people wanting us to deliver the free items, too. I wouldn't have been surprised if some people wanted me to pay them for the free items... :c(
