Where are we today ?
A wonderful sunny day, perfect for travelling. No Rain , no clouds and temps in the mid 60's f. Hit the road from Plattsville by 9:30 this morning and a nice back country for a while then on to the highway. 90 minutes later at the border crossing for Lewiston New York.

Lots of traffic at the USA customs crossing the border. But it moved fairly quick today. Only about a 20 minute wait , just enough time to make a bite to eat for lunch, Suzie drives and I whip up a bite to eat, love our motorhome!

the lines moved quickly |
Customs agent asked some different questions today. How long will we be in the states, do we cross the border at any other times and do we own a house in Canada. We answered the questions truthfully, and he asked if we had any meat, yes we have a freezer full. That was it for questions then he said we spend too much time in the states, too close to our 180 days he said. We only spend 175 days every year. That was it then told us to have a good day.
A few miles down the road stopped at Smokin' Joes to fuel up our coach and car 65 gallons of gas at $3.29 a gallon. That 246 litres and in Ontario was $1.15 a litre. With the 13 % exchange rate .98 cents a litre we saved 17 cents a litre ($41.82) on this fill up alone. Yep, we enjoy travelling in the states for the winter, very affordable.
Pulled into Lazy Lakes resort and found a nice site near our friends Bill and Barb. Not a huge site but we have 30 amp and water, not overnight fees, part of our Membership camping.

Here we are shortly after noon all set up for a few days |
I ran into town picked up a few groceries and adult beverages, saved another hundred dollars just on this small shopping trip as well. Compared to buying the same items in Canada.
It was warm enough to read outside in the shade for bit while I prepped supper. Tonight salmon fillets, broccoli and cauliflower in foil, grilled red pepper and a tasty salad. Just like we really enjoying and have been missing for the last few days. We are getting back on track with our healthy eating habits.

As we were finishing up supper our friend Bill arrived and stopped by to visit for a couple hours, have not seen him since his son's wedding this past June. Barb and a few more friends will be here on the weekend , looking forward to seeing everyone again.
A perfect short travel day and an easy border crossing, warm weather a sunshine, cheap fuel and food, exactly what we are looking for.
Thanks for stopping by again, hope you had great weather wherever you are.

Nice to see you are off to a great start on this years trip. Nice looking park, great weather can't get much better than that. Dinner looked and sounded awesome. Have a great Friday!
ReplyDeleteThanks it is a great membership parks, one of many we enjoy free camping at.
DeleteYippee is right! I know how good it feels to get on the road again and especially in nice weather. Funny that the border agent felt it was his duty to chastise you about your 175 days when the law allows a few more.
ReplyDeleteI was not going to argue with him, I think was looking for us to trip up one of his questions or lie.
DeleteAlways such a great feeling to get back on the road huh ! Those sure were some different questions at the Border though.
ReplyDeletethink he was trying to trip us up on something.
DeleteGood crossing, always a little nerve racking We are always around 150 days. Have Fun!
ReplyDeleteWe are so used to crossing now, never know what they will ask or look for, want to make sure we are all legal though.
DeleteYaaaaaaa! Good feeling - right?! Back in the saddle again……..
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, touring the country the way we love. Don't think will run into you this year, but would be nice.
DeleteSure was a great travel day for you. Things are a changing at the Border, that is for sure!
ReplyDeleteThey are changing, don't think they are so worried about food as much as they are about us spending too much time in the USA illegally. That's why we go by all the rules.
DeleteSuch a great feeling to be on the road again heading southwest. There was something on the news a couple of weeks ago about the fact that both the US and Canada are really going to be clamping down on the 180 day rule. Enjoy your journey.
ReplyDeleteWe have been following that rule for years, so no changes needed on our part.
DeleteLooks like you're off to a good start.
ReplyDeleteYep we sure are....
DeleteWelcome! Looking forward to your traveling posts. :c)
ReplyDeleteThanks guys , looking forward to posting them too.
DeleteSafe travels - looks like you're off to a great start.
ReplyDeleteAll is great, we should get top California about the same time as you guys, just taking the long way and enjoying the journey.
DeleteGlad you're heading in the right direction. Border crossings always make me nervous since I had a bad experience once. They can make you feel like a crook, even though that isn't the case.
ReplyDeleteWe are getting so used to the border crossings now, they seem like old hat.
DeleteLooking forward to some wonderful travel days.
Welcome to the states! Can't wait to read all about your travels!
ReplyDeleteThanks , maybe not as busy as you but we do enyoy the travelling and the warm weather.
DeleteGas is $2.89 USD a gallon here in Phoenix, Az today..
