Where are we today ?

Up nice and early this morning and a very nice mild night was wonderful , Gonna miss this weather for a while. Got my coffees and computing done and ready for a nice walkabout, shirt one this morning just because we want to get on the road when the mood strikes us the sooner the better.
I came back and Bella was there to say goodbye. Hope to see her again in the future. Getting ready to go I had to turn in the cable box and there was some one in the office at 7:30. So we ready to hit the road at 7:45 this morning we pulled out.

Bella came by for a last rub we will miss her |
Heading toward the Interstate by passing the toll roads taking some very nice back country roads for about an hour, very little traffic.
|
nice back roads |
On I-44 the new route 66 stopped at the Missouri welcome centre , as we always do and always have to take some pictures of it If you have followed us for a while I am sure you have seen this area before. This is where we stopped and made a tasty lunch about 10:30, just because we can and not many nice rest areas along the route.
|
such nice welcome centre |
|
nice picnic areas here too |
Now as we headed east on I-44 my I-phone gave me a message about a very long delay (accident ahead) I-44 was stopped for 20 miles. and suggested we take this alternate route. So we watched the traffic looks like a good route and followed the truckers (that we like to do). A wonderful scenic drive for about 10 miles on the original route 66. Not much traffic yet and we never slowed down. What a nice treat. I use my I phone for routing and plan the routes on google maps, the good thing with this app is it gives me live updates instantly so told us of the accident, and the real bonus is the blue tooth goes right into my hearing aides, really love this technology. And no expensive gps needed.
|
old route 66 very scenic |
Then back onto I-44 and at Pacific Missouri another accident and detour, more of old route 66, Loving this !
|
Not a great driving day but was a good one for us |
Our last detour today was Through Pacific Missouri again off of I44 onto the old route 66 and we spotted all these caves going through town, wondered what they were so did a quick search , Looks like old mining caves. We did not want to stop with the pouring rain but sure would be interesting to check out. You can click a link
HERE if you are interested.
|
lots of cool caves here in Pacific |
Back onto 44 for a bit crossed the Mississippi the took the southern bypass around St. Louis. Have been through there before a few times, seen the arch, but this is a much nicer easy drive .
|
crossing the Mississippi on a rainy day |
Pulled into this Walmart at Collinsville at 3:30 got parked and set up . We decided for supper tonight a pizza, So into Walmart picked a meat pizza and 6 chicken wings. Back home preheat our oven and dressed the pizza the way we love it (loaded) We have all the stuff here so why not. Fresh Mushrooms, onions, more sauce, tomatoes, olives and Jalapeno peppers on my half and extra cheese.
|
that is a hearty pizza |
With 3 wings each we managed to eat 1/2 of this medium pizza. guess we have some more pizza for a lunch or whatever.
|
this sure hit the spot tonight and only $6:50 with lotsa leftovers |
Supper was done and I whipped up a few dishes, got a nice walkabout the parking lot and store. but once again no visible sunset tonight. Now we can kick back and relax for the evening and catch a show on the tube. Nothing on local tv so a dvd works for us.
Thanks for tagging along and hope y'all had a great day as well.

336 miles today |

Where have we been this Winter?
"and no expensive gps needed."
ReplyDeleteLOL... George, a GPS is actually pretty cheap... It's your iPhone that's expensive!
This phone is our internet, unlimited calling and texting, Canada and the US. And for us this convince works, not much more that we ended up paying for cheap phones, and other internet services over the years. And have found Google maps more accurate and up to date than a lot of GSP units.
DeleteLove those route 66 places:))
ReplyDeleteyes we do as well.
DeleteYou have just the right amount of jalapenos on your half...
ReplyDeleteYes John worked for me.
DeleteSounds like a great detour on Route 66.
ReplyDeleteWe use our google maps app on our phones and it is nice to get the warning and alternate route. Though, if all the semis are exiting we are following them even without the warning.
Continued safe travels.
Google maps does work great, this is the first year I have tried it and love the bluetooth was well at least I can here is perfectly. I used to listen to my CB all the time but not many truckers use them anymore. Not all the truckers came this way but a bunch did , glad we followed them.
DeleteWhat an interesting travel day! Bet Bella will miss you more than you'll miss her. A very nice park greeter! I think your 'home made' Walmart pizza looks great, and leftovers for breakfast!
ReplyDeleteI think she will as well, she is such a wonderful dog. Nothing like making a better pizza for a good price. Too much for breakfast maybe lunch or supper.
DeleteI think I stayed just to the right of that bridge. Nice route and little traffic. That’s a good day.
ReplyDeleteThat would be a nice place to stay right on the river watching the boats and barges. It was a very goo travel day thanks.
DeleteLove the Route 66 rest stop, and the detours took you on the old 66.
ReplyDeleteOf course I like Suzie's pizza side
This rest area is one we really enjoy too bad it was yucky weather, I will eat either side, just like the extras stuff and spices.
DeleteWhat phone plan do you use when you are in the US George?
ReplyDeleteI use google maps all the time on my iphone but have never heard of the traffic "alerts". how do you turn that on?
Have a safe journey home.
We have 2 Bell Canada i-phones unlimited talking texting Canada and the US, 15 Gb of data a month Canada and US. Not chap but very convenient for us. I did not do anything that I know, to turn on the traffic alerts they just came on.
DeleteA few more day and we will be there.
That sounds like a very good app to guide you.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great app I love it.
DeleteGuess who? Sorry we’ve been absent for awhile but life happens doesn’t it?
ReplyDeleteSounds like the delays led you all to a nice route (66)!!
That pizza looks delicious!!!
Hey guys nice to hear from you again, Hope all is well there. The delays no problem and nice new sights we interesting as well. Pizza yummy.
DeleteWe each have to have at least one wet travel day and if that is the worst of it, no problem!
ReplyDeletePizza looks great, Suzie's side, of course.
Safe travels and hope for a better day.
Oh yeah wet travels days are fine as long as no snow , no ice and no tornadoes.
DeletePizza was all good , thats why I like to make my own. Except Silly Al's of course.
Today was a wonderful travel day.
Love avoiding the interstates and taking the old highways myself. So much more to see and far more interesting. You really get a feel for America that way. I use a Garmin Drivesmart GPS. It also gives me the traffic delays ahead, as well as connects to my phone and acts as a hands free device for taking calls and receiving messages. You can also give it voice commands for searches and it incorporates FourSquare. Probably the best GPS on the market for 220 bucks.
ReplyDeleteWe do love taking the backroads at times, and done so many over the years, You really do get a feel for America for sure. Have never needed a GPS before and seeing as we have the I phone and use google maos have found this is all wee need. Maybe someday but no need for us right now.
DeleteYou missed us again. We are about 100 miles northwest of Joplin, MO. In the 1960's my husband lived in Missouri during the week and worked on I44 in the Joplin area. It's been a few years since we have been that way. Have a safe trip home.
ReplyDeleteWell heck how would I know? Would be nice to meet you, keep in touch, we are enjoying this years travels thanks.
