Our last sleep here at Borrego Springs so quiet, much warmer this morning 48F at 5 am was pretty nice. Got our coffees consumed and oatmeal, some computing and trying to decide which way to head to Yuma, decisions, decisions, Ok, got that taken care of we head out we will drive through the Texas dip and SR 78 and down 111 to I-8 and east drive all the way better roads this way and different scenery.
Love the wonderful desert smells of the mesquite in the early morning and star filled skies here are amazing, gonna miss them. After puttering around for a while no rush to go a nice leisurely morning, Suzie had her shower I got out and about for a bit. Then eventually stored our satellite dish, secured the coach and hooked up the car. We outta here at 8:40 am heading on down the road again.
From Peg Leg Smith's into Borrego Springs towards SR78 down through the Texas Dip Ocotillo wells then 78/86, 111 to El Centro and east on I-8 smooth wonderful roads all the way, no wind or rain and next to no traffic at all.

A perfect travel day as we planned, last minute. Arrived at Pilot Knob Resort 11 am and checked in. Much busier than it was at Christmas. But we did get a wonderful large corner site with a large cement patio, and a nice tree, for afternoon shade. A membership park for $15.00 a night. Got set up then a tasty lunch today . I had some Chorizo and scramble eggs, man was that tasty, Gotta get more of this Chorizo.
Now to relax outside on our patio, enjoying our e-readers in the warm afternoon sun for a while. Yup we do enjoy this park. Having been here many times since 2006.

all nicely set up here on a wonderful site |
A while later our good friend Ron Font from Rock Glen resort stopped by to say welcome, While he was riding his bike around.
A bit later Elva and Gerry stopped in to meet us for a short visit , a blog follower from the area , they are camped in the LTVA right behind the park.

Then a little while longer Skip of Jean and Skip from BC that we have known for years dropped by for a short visit as well. Jean is under the weather right now and hope she will get better soon.
And then again more fiends from Rock Glen Resort in Ontario joined us for Happy hour. Their first winter here in the southwest, we spent some time with them in Quartzsite a while ago, nice to see them again.

A great travel day, meeting up with more friends again we all settled in to a campground we enjoy, full hook ups, so no matter what the weather is we are very comfortable and have things to take care of in this area. The weather here in the southwest does not get much better than right here.
Thanks for taking the time to stop on by, and hope y'all had a great day as well.

Where have we been this Winter?
So many friends from you previous trips! and a doggie for Suzi! Looks like a perfect travel day and still nice enough for shorts and sandals.
ReplyDeleteSuch a small world meeting with our friends, it was very nice for most of the afternoon, then started to cool down as it always does.
DeleteWow a popular corner you've got there George. Always nice to see friends. Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteNot sure how everyone found us so quickly bur is nice to see friends again.
DeleteHow do yo always manage to get a large corner site?
ReplyDeleteYour RVing family is always around you.
We always try for a corner site if we available don't feel so crowded.
DeleteWe do plan it but, seems that way and forever growing.
Pilot Lnob was our favorite park.
ReplyDeleteIt is one of ours as well, just something about it, and managers are awesome.
DeleteNice looking place and what a great spot you have. And of course more friend to hang out with what fun
ReplyDeleteThis is a park we enjoy and just keep running into friends along the way.
DeleteOn ABC National News tonight, the news anchor announced that a Delta passenger jet took off from John Wayne Airport in California headed north, experienced very extreme turbulence at a high altitude, beverage carts turned over, items falling from overhead compartments, four people injured, and had to make an an emergency landing at Reno, Nevada. All of this happened because of the large storm front with high winds coming in from the California coast. You made a very wise decision to head on out to Yuma, and you got a great camping spot to boot!
ReplyDeleteKnew there was some weather coming you just never know out here around the mountains. The weather a bit more stable here in Yuma .
DeleteI see everyone in jackets, and as Dee said, looks like a wise decision to get to Pilot Knob to ride out the nasty weather. Looks like a lot of fun with friends, and as always, dinner looks yummy. So, George, what exactly do you put in those salads, they always look similar.
ReplyDeleteIt was very nice for a couple of sunny hours this afternoon, then the clouds rolled in and cooling down after 4 pm OUR daily salad recipe in on my sidebar, but mostly, lettuce, or spinach. red onion, cucumber, tomatoes, murhsroomd, carrot, dried cranberries, sesame seeds, broccoli, ground flax, sunflowers seeds, bean salad, olives and hot peppers for me, and Balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing, once in a while a different dressing.
DeleteStay dry .... they say it going to rain quite a bit. At least it will be warmer!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I had the same question ... how do you always get an end camping spot???
We will be nice and comfy here for a while an enjoy the rain.
DeleteGuess we get lucky, always try for and end sight they are so much nicer with nobody beside you.
Nice to know that you are here George and Susie. I enjoyed the pictures from your drive here. It sure has been unusual weather everywhere this year. But as you say better here than Ontario now.
ReplyDeleteHope the doctor can help me today. I think Ron is getting tired of playing nurse.
We do enjoy this park and so nice that you are here as well. Good luck with the doctor and hope you feeling better soon.
DeleteYou and Suzie are very popular!! Glad you got to meet Elva and Jerry! I haven't seen her in almost 30 years, but it was like seeing her yesterday! Good times all around. Your salads always look good, we model ours after yours :)
ReplyDeleteNt sure why we are so popular maybe just being on the road 13 years and always running into people we met.
DeleteIt was nice to meet Elva and Gerry, after reading her comments as a blog follower.
Especially nice for you hooking up with her again after all this time.
We do enjoy our salads, so very tasty, filling and healthy.
Nice to see you set up at Pilot Knob. Hey! that looks like our beautiful corner site you are on! haha
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to meet Elva and Jerry, such a sweet little lady she is. Enjoy your time together with everyone, hope the rain isn't too bad for any of us.
