Our last sleep here at Borrego Springs so quiet, much warmer this morning 48F at 5 am was pretty nice. Got our coffees consumed and oatmeal, some computing and trying to decide which way to head to Yuma, decisions, decisions, Ok, got that taken care of we head out we will drive through the Texas dip and SR 78 and down 111 to I-8 and east drive all the way better roads this way and different scenery.
Love the wonderful desert smells of the mesquite in the early morning and star filled skies here are amazing, gonna miss them. After puttering around for a while no rush to go a nice leisurely morning, Suzie had her shower I got out and about for a bit. Then eventually stored our satellite dish, secured the coach and hooked up the car. We outta here at 8:40 am heading on down the road again.
From Peg Leg Smith's into Borrego Springs towards SR78 down through the Texas Dip Ocotillo wells then 78/86, 111 to El Centro and east on I-8 smooth wonderful roads all the way, no wind or rain and next to no traffic at all.
excellent smooth roads going this way
as I remember form a few years ago
the Texas Dip 10 % grade
Ocotillo Wells
Through El Centro and onto I-8 heading east still no traffic all day. love it !
I-8 eastbound
passing the Imperial Sand Dunes
quiet right now before the weekend
A perfect travel day as we planned, last minute. Arrived at Pilot Knob Resort 11 am and checked in. Much busier than it was at Christmas. But we did get a wonderful large corner site with a large cement patio, and a nice tree, for afternoon shade. A membership park for $15.00 a night. Got set up then a tasty lunch today . I had some Chorizo and scramble eggs, man  was that tasty, Gotta get more of this Chorizo.
Now to relax outside on our patio, enjoying our e-readers in the warm afternoon sun for a while. Yup we do enjoy this park. Having been here many times since 2006.
all nicely set up here on a wonderful site
A while later our good friend Ron Font from Rock Glen resort stopped by to say welcome, While he was riding his bike around.
A bit later Elva and Gerry stopped in to meet us for a short visit , a blog follower from the area , they are camped in the LTVA right behind the park.
Me, Elva and Gerry
Then a little while longer Skip of Jean and Skip from BC that we have known for years dropped by for a short visit as well. Jean is under the weather right now and hope she will get better soon.
And then again more fiends from Rock Glen Resort in Ontario joined us for Happy hour. Their first winter here in the southwest, we spent some time with them in Quartzsite a while ago, nice to see them again.
Ken and Kim
Then while we were here Ron and Freddy (Lorre was under the weather, get better soon) came by to meet Kim and Ken we are all from the same park in Ontario.
Ron and Freddy
Doggie fix for Suzie and Freddie get a treat
such a good dog he is
Now telling stories and getting to know everyone. Ron always has good stories to tell.
LR: Suzie, Ron Ken and Kim
no visible sunset tonight
our afternoon shade tree
Soon time for supper so I Grilled a couple of Pollock fillets in our Weber Q right from frozen only 5 minutes a side and really are amazing. tasty, juicy and cooked to perfection.
love these
added to our salad we had our fill
A great travel day, meeting up with more friends again we all settled in to a campground we enjoy, full hook ups, so no matter what the weather is we are very comfortable and have things to take care of in this area. The weather here in the southwest does not get much better than right here.
Thanks for taking the time to stop on by, and hope y'all had a great day as well.
125 miles today

Where have we been this Winter?

Adjusting our plans again, think it is time to head east a bit.

Where are we today ?

Much colder last night was 34F at 5 am and in no time we were toasty warm after turning on our Blue Flame heater. Got some breaky and coffees consumed, started making a broth from the chicken we enjoyed last night.  Then a nice country drive until it warms up then go for a walkabout here in the desert.
another wonderful desert sunrise
Cruised about town for a bit probably my last one early morning this year.
love the palm trees  all over Borrego Springs
Back home finished prepping the soup and let it simmer for an hour. While this was going on I took a nice long walk out infront of us on a sunny warm day through the desert, perfect morning  for it.
Then headed back to home dirt, to have lunch with Suzie.
we back there a few rigs around
love these desert views
some tiny art work by a hiker
a nice walking trail
nothing like a good tasty homemade chicken soup
Had to go back into town this afternoon, pick up some oranges and fill our 5 gallon water jug, the Frugal Coyote was open, (thrift store) Thought of Kelly from the Bayfield bunch so I went in to check it out a huge store it is but came out empty handed nothing there for me today.
Back home to relax with our e-readers outside another perfect winter day 72 F sunny and only a very slight breeze. Relaxing in the shade, Suzie in full shade, so she can read her I-pad, my Kobo performs perfect in direct sun, so no shorts for her.
I took a break to stow our Weber Q , check tire pressures, oil and back to my book again before our Happy Hour. We decided over our morning coffees to head out in the morning, supposed to be a good travel day. We have that hitch itch again. We were going to leave Friday, but with heavy rains predicted here on Thursday, and then Friday is the beginning of Presidents Day weekend thought best to leave earlier and avoid the rains and traffic. This is where we begin our trip back to Ontario once we leave here. Only 56 days to get there and we don't like to rush. Nice that we can do this having made no reservations we are free to travel when we like. Called a membership campground this morning and we can go in tomorrow. If not we can always go someplace else, not a problem for us this is what we enjoy about the southwest, so many options.
this desert sure is turning green almost like a lawn
even the hills behind us are getting green
After our Happy hour was time to whip up supper. Tonight going to make (inside) a couple of pork schnitzel, so quick easy and tasty treat we both love.
Boneless pork chop tenderized
Dipped in egg. then in flour with with spices then cover in Panko   bread crumbs I Sautéed some onions and mushrooms and set aside then pan fried these for a few minutes until golden brown, turned over put the mushrooms and onions on top and shredded cheddar cheese. Lid on the pan for a few more minutes until the cheese melted.

smells so good
added to our salad we enjoyed a very tasty supper
No visible sunset tonight and that is just fine we leaving in the morning anyway, to make tracks eastbound.
that was it for our sunset tonight
Just another perfect desert day here no complaints at all, But think we should get outta here while the getting is good. beat the crowds, rain and traffic.
Thanks for joining us today really appreciate you dropping on by to see what we are up to. Nothing too exciting just enjoying this wonderful lifestyle that we enjoy.

A good nights sleep but windy again overnight but nice and mild in the mid 40's F  and 48 F at 5 am when I got up. The wind bothered Suzie after I went to sleep so she pulled in the slide,  and even went outside to put our Weber Q on the ground. Then she slept well.
Anothe wonderful desert sunrise this morning what a great way to start our day.
another nice desert sunrise
About 8 am (Arizona time, 7 am California time) I took a drive around the area and into town. Just because I could and wanted to take a tour.
heading into town
I stop by the State park  and enjoyed a nice walkabout here. Supposed to be a fee during the week self serve. I am not paying a fee for a 15 minute visit sorry guys.

Just before lunch I took my fresh Chorizo and made 6 burgers to freeze , for some tasty burgers on down the road,
into the freezer to store
After  tasty lunch I took another drive around the area, down Henderson Canyon road , love this drive past the palm trees and Orange groves.
Got to the end and guess what? The fruit stand is now open !Ya hoo. They have fresh ruby red Grapefruits and tangelo oranges that we love.  Ok finally they are  harvested so picked up a nice 3 pound bag of these wonderful oranges, self serve only 3 bucks, we are in heaven !

Heading back to home dirt, , what an amazing day, have been in my shorts since 10 am it is that nice here.

Back home  to enjoy this amazing winter weather. Awning deployed so Suzie can read here I pad in the shade, (does not work well in the sun). She has a jacket and hoody on in the shade and I am in shorts and sandals in the sun . In the desert you need to be in the sun to keep warm shade here is very cold.
my desert view this afternoon
We enjoyed hoary hour, discussing our adventures then soon time to whip up supper, Tonight gonna grill the chicken  I picked up yesterday, a good day for it. The sun is beginning to set.
chicken done to perfection and some acorn squash on the side
to go with our salad
tasty? yup and leftovers for lunches and soup
after dishes done the sun had set
We had a plan to take a drive up the Julian for a piece of pie. But we have done that trip a few times in the past and enjoyed the scenery but neither one of us could get too excited about that long drive for a piece of expensive pie (oh it is good pie). So just decided we could hang out here and relax. Just enjoy hanging out right here with my honey. But we have a couple pictures of the Julian Pie Company from 2 years ago.
This is the place
we did enjoy the Caramel Apple pie with ice cream
Now it was 5 years ago we explored and found the Big Stone snake on this day Feb 11, 2016 after climbing the steep hill off of Rock house road. Suzie did not make it all the way to the top, But I got over there and saw it in person, she did not want me to hike it alone. We did not go back again but do have this memory.
Hey I spotted it
and there it is another wonderful desert sighting
This picture below is a flash from our past taken in 1957 at our house in Scarborough, Ontario. my sister Louise (6?), and me 8 yrs old I was taking shape to be a very fat kid, glad I have that under control now.
