Arena, old friends and more food prep, just an Awesome Day!

Where are we today ?
New Hamburg Ontario
A pretty cold morning again just about freezing out there. But we are toasty warm, our Mr. Heater Buddy doing its job just the way it is supposed to. Coffee's and computing then off to the Plattsville Arena to see our two grandsons on the ice in their hockey gear learning some skating moves.
Really brings back memories when we were in this same arena watching their mother, my youngest daughter, about the same age practicing her figure skating and taking lessons over twenty years ago. We did that for about 7 years. So nice to see them growing, learning and having fun. Glad we are in the area to experience part of it.
We were here for over two hours and enjoyed the conversation and antics of everyone there. Even ran into a few people we have not seen since back then too.

Back to the farm for a bite to eat, then off to the New Hamburg Legion for an open house. The Arena manager for many years Elmer Baer and his wife Kay were celebrating his 80th birthday with an open house so just had to go. We were at their place for Ma and Pa fest earlier this summer on August 11th. So once again all the locals and more people we have not seen for a while were there too, to wish him all the best. Think he's looking pretty good for 80, about the same as when I first met him 30 years ago.

Now back again to the farm I have more food prep to do for the rest of the weekend. Carved up the 18 lb turkey, I cooked yesterday, put some of the gell over it and covered with foil. So on monday at my daughters in Aurora we just need to reheat and will be ready to go and so moist.
 lotsa turkey
After boiling the carcass yesterday, cooling and skimming the excess fat this morning I added all the rest of the ingredients, celery, carrots, onions and a spices to make a very nice tasty Turkey soup with Rice Noodles (gluten free), so that we can all enjoy it.
lotsa soup
Then to take to Suzie's Aunt's tomorrow for her families Thanksgiving feast I made a huge bowl of my pasta salad, again with rice pasta (more gluten free). That recipe is under the Recipe Tab above.

Now with all this food here and cooking for the last two days (I really enjoy doing this too) I felt like I did back in my restaurant days fullfilled but tired out from standing. That is one of the reasons I have a bad back.
I did not feel like eating any of this tonight had a craving for some nice hot spicy chicken wings. So a phone call and the short drive to The Trail's Edge Tavern in Plattsville. Grab our order to go and the craving is satisfied. Can't wait until we cross the border where we can buy some really good wings and cook them ourselves. Only 11 more days.
Love our wings
Thats it for another nice fall day but really getting cool now, I actually wore a pair of jeans today and a wool sweater!
Thanks for stopping by and hope all our Canadian friends out there enjoy this nice holiday weekend, and everybody else just enjoy whatever life brings you today.

  5. Your pics of the hockey rink sure brought back some memories of me waiting by the boards in the early dawn as Kevin and his friends finished up a hockey practice. Those were early, cold mornings.

    Great memories, thanks.
