George Update

Where are we today ?
Stratford, Ontario

Words from George,

At hospital all night again. Came by ambulance, had chest x-ray, ultra sound and blood work.

Local doctor discussed my options, not many options and none good.

The bottom line is pancreatic cancer which spread to the liver. They are going to attempt to unblock the bile duct to relieve some symptoms. This cancer is fast moving and aggressive.

There is no cure. They can possibly keep me comfortable for about a year with radiation and chemotherapy.

One day at a time.

Your prayers and good thoughts are appreciated.

George got into a hospital bed about 3 today. Thank you all for your comments. I know George always replied to each and everyone of you but I'm sure you all understand that I may not have the time to reply. Rest assured that he does read them. He still giving the nurses a hard time and getting them to laugh. I think that makes the nurses job easier.

  1. Hey, George, sure you got no good news now, but you gotta hang in there. Bea and I are thinking of you, praying and hoping. As long as we have known you, you have always been the most positive one. I know you are like this today as well. You may want to read my last posting - it's gonna make you laugh. You being the chef and all. Wishing you all the best.

  4. Well, you know what they say about death and taxes. Pretty sure you did alright with the taxes part though, being a restaurant owner and all! :-)

Unfortunately the death part is going to get all of us.

  6. You may not be getting good news but we can still pray for better.
We understand how busy a caregiver can be Suzie so as long as you keep us informed on George's condition we understand you're not commenting.
Hoping you also have a good support group to fall back on. You need to take care of yourself. We are also saying prayers for you as you will need your wits about you.

It's about time in our lives and what we do with it.

  15. Oh my....none of us is promised tomorrow. Use your time wisely. As the nurse told my dad ...you have only so much energy each day. Use it the way you want to use it. He chose family and I have a feeling you will do the same. I want to thank you for teaching me the importance of being positive in blogging and the comments we leave. I don't think you know how many people you have touched....

You certainly helped blaze the trail for those of us following in your travel footsteps. We are tucked in at Quail Ridge in Huachuca City. An area you know well. Keep the fond memories of your travels in the forefront. The other stuff you are going through will unfold as God planned.

  22. I as George and Sue’s youngest would just like to say thank you to everyone for all of you prayers and very thoughtful messages. It is overwhelming to see the outpour of constant concerns over the past few weeks. I am sure Suzie finds it overwhelming to ever be able to respond to all of you but I wanted to expressed how much it truly means to all of us. Thank you

  27. Don't ever ever give up. There is no cure for cancer but that does not mean that you don't have many years ahead of you. Your liver can regenerate. Pancreatic cancer is more difficult but if you are healthy which you are and are positive which you most definitely are, then anything is possible. Look at Alex Trebek. Plus you have the love of both your families plus your entire blog and facebook families. Thoughts are things. We are all sending positive energy your way.

Suzie, thank you for keeping us informed, certainly no responses are necessary or expected. Sending big HUGS again.

  34. Weeping as I read the news. I've lost many family members to cancer including my mother. The more recent one was last March. I lost my older sister to breast cancer. She said she came to terms with the inevitable which made me stronger to deal with her pain but luckily that didn't last long. My niece is battling breast cancer for over 15 years now. They thought she was in remission after being cancer free for seven years and that same year the cancer came back in her bones. She's still battling the disease and blazing a trail for future breast cancer victims for treatment. She is awesome and so are you!

It's good to see you are keeping your attitude positive, amigo, or as you have been wont to see at many of our Happy Hour get-togethers: "Thanks for being happy." Life is truly one day at a time...

  38. Not the news we wanted but we are grateful that you are sharing it in any case, George, your positive attitude and outlook on life will go a long way in keeping you strong to face these trying times. My thoughts are with you!

Suzie, I can't overemphasize the importance of keeping yourself rested and healthy. I know from experience how tiring and stressful the job of caregiver can be. Rest, eat and take time for yourself. Don't even think about replying to individual comments, this is not the best use of your time right now and we do not expect it. My thoughts and energy are heading out to both of you every day!
