Heck it is Saturday already where did the week go ? Looks like we will have a busy day.Up at 5 am and a wonderful hot day it is going to be. Just before 7 am I took nice quiet walkabout town 1.5 miles to start, chatted with a few people who were out and about. Nice to catch up with old friends when I can,
|
I just had to go here later to check it out. |
|
walking down River Road here love this area |
A quick trip to New Hamburg for a few things and a light early lunch, Then down the road to the Chesterfield Church to check out the 50's and 60's displays. Put on by the Heritage Society here in Plattsville.
|
just outside of town the horses from the pasture are all standing by the fence maybe waiting for the trail to open? |
|
this used to be the Chesterfield Church now run by the Heritage society |
I parked the car and a good friend Denise Tew greeted me and gave me a wonderful tour of their displays. So many wonderful things to see and I recognized most of them growing up in the 50's and 60's.
|
The Avro Arrow that was very familiar with my Uncle worked there back then and I did a school project about it. |
All the clothes, dishes, furniture, washing machines, all this that I have owned. way back when.
Then I sat at this table hopping Denise would serve me lunch, No luck we just had lunch. But she did serve som root beer and cookies.
|
old thermos and a suitcase that unfolds for a table |
|
even an old Drive 'In, remember those? |
|
soda fountain, Juke box just like back then |
I met Denise and her husband Brian back in the 80"s in the Optimist club. they also supplied my restaurant with 25 dozen or more fresh eggs every week from their huge hen house.
|
me in my Tye die shirt and Denise |
Memories of these old machines back in the day.
Now they have pinball machine that I had spent many, many hours on way back when. We even had one in our house in Scarborough for quite a few years when I was growing up.
|
I scored pretty good being such a long time |
|
Beattles, Elvis, Betty Boop etc.. more memories |
|
roller skates to clamp onto your shoes I even had them as well |
|
the old furniture we had too |
After a fun time their reminiscing with Denise I came back home and hopped on the mower here to get some lawn mowed.
|

I mowed for just over an hour around the house and pool area, then had to stop. Time to go to Nithview In New Hamburg and enjoy the Strawberry Social with Suzie's, Dad,brother and SIL.

As we we are heading out heard a loud Bang right behind us. A bunch of old tractors touring the back roads, and sounds like one died a bad death!

What a nice display of cool old stuff! I remember a lot of it too. My uncle worked at AVRO in Toronto too. There is a lovely model of the prototype in Barrys Bay, Ontario.
ReplyDeleteIt really is an excellent display sure worth dropping in the check out, I even had Models of the ARO way back when, Maybe get to Barry's Bay sometime again and check it out
DeleteWhat a fun place to go check out all the 50's and 60's stuff. I remember some of it in our home and other peoples homes. You had a busy day but it all looked like your kind of fun.
ReplyDeleteIr was fun checking out all the stuff from the past, brought back so many memories. We enjoyed the whole day.
DeleteWhat a nice trip down memory lane of those wonderful times now gone by. LOVED that they had Betty Boop...as you know one of my favorites :)
ReplyDeleteIt was nice and so many memories. almost everything I saw awakened a new memory.
DeleteWhen I saw the Betty Boop stuff it reminded me of you too.
How fun was that! I had that and that and that ...
ReplyDeleteGotta love the old tractors. Our fair has a tractor parade every night of the week. There are about 60 of these beauties in the neighborhood.
It was a lot of fun seeing all the old things, from way back when.
DeleteLove the old tractors too.
That John Deere was way too pretty to break down!! What a treat all those tractors going by! The 50's 60's display was incredible! I have the mel mac dishes called speckled ware and absolutely love them because they bring back the childhood memories of Arkansas :) WE had a Starlight drive in in Sacramento that Ken and I used to go to way back when :) Just love those memories! The strawberries look so yummy! Cute pic of Suzie and her daddy!! :)
ReplyDeleteIt looked in pretty good shape , but a loud bang did it in, oops.
DeleteThe displays were wonderful and did bring back so many wonderful memories too.
We also had a Strarlight drive in , so many of have now closed down though, sad. Oh the memories.
These were very fresh local berries ripen on the vine, excellent.
I'm surprised you didn't join in the tractor parade with your lawn mower, it's almost big enough! ;c)
ReplyDeleteLOL. almost but not a farm tractor. beside we were heading out for the Strawberry social.
DeleteCamp Awesome seems like a comfortable and convenient place.
ReplyDeleteYes Stew it sure is, we do really enjoy it here.
DeleteAwww...the 50's and 60's...I love reminiscing from that time period. I would love visting there. I have not had any fresh strawberries this year, and we love them. We just haven't been at the right place at the right time. When we return to Oswego I hope to visit "Brenda's Berries" near us. She has all kinds of fruit trees and berries. Hope to stock up on a few of them.
ReplyDeleteThe displays there are wonderful and well done, so many great memories. Nothingquite like fresh local berries.
DeleteWhat a fun post. So many memories from way back then. I recognize so many items we had back in the day. Those sword fish steal look great. I have never seen them for sale. Would love to try them. Gosh, those drive ins were so special
ReplyDeleteThank you it was a fun visit. The swordfish are very good, Suzie prefers the to Tuna. A lot of memories from the drive in's way back when.
