A very quiet night here at the Deming Walmart, cool and great for sleeping. Even with the time change I was still awake at 4 am, (41F) so puttered around for a while cereal, coffee, computing then waiting for the sun to come up got out for a walkabout the parking lot, no big rush today only going a couple hundred miles so just enjoying the quiet morning times here with my sweetie. It was 7 am when I started my walking, but it was cold (now 33F) out there AND it started to snow! What the heck ? Ok I walked around the Walmart for about 45 minutes, much warmer there. Back home replaced a cupboard latch, then back to the store for a couple of grocery items I forgot yesterday and refill our RO water jug. Still snowing supposed to stop about 9am. Hmm not happening just large fluffy snow flakes. So at 9:30 we headed on out eastbound on I-10.
what is this whit stuff? at least it is not staying in the ground |
About 45 minutes later we pulled into the Las Cruses Rest area, to visit the Roadrunner again. We had missed him for a couple of years because he had deteriorated, and was rebuilt now with recycled materials, so cool to see especially up close.
love this Roadrunner |
from the rest area looking to Las Cruses |
About an Hour later we exited New Mexico and Entered Texas , to whip through El Paso. Very little traffic and no slow downs, just a few miles 2 lanes due to construction but not a big deal.
Thanks for the views New Mexico |
here we are Texas now |
passed this cute water tower |
snow in those mountains her in El Paso |
just cruising along I-10 pretty quiet and not much to see any more, mind you we have driven this for for 12 of our 13 years but we can make good time. |
love the restrooms in these Texas rest areas |
nice picnic shelters too |
quick easy and fresh tasting not soggy |

Where have we been this Winter?
Happy St Patrick's Day! Lots of local activities here, but honestly I do not enjoy them as much. I like the idea of a nice easy travel day better. I'm sure you'll enjoy another one tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeff, it was good travel day and we do enjoy them, St. Patricks Day is just another day for us anymore. Looking forward to more travel again tomorrow again.
DeleteBoy, we sure have different ideas as to what makes for a great day!
ReplyDeleteYes we do and it's probably a good thing, Happy wife, Happy life.
DeleteSnow is NOT allowed!!!!
ReplyDeleteAt least it did not stay on the ground, and the road were good.
DeleteGood travel day even with the snow fluries. NM and TX have some great rest areas.
ReplyDeleteIt was a good travel day and we do like their rest areas, very handy.
DeleteSnow is not good, hope thats all you see.Still three weeks until you are home, travel safe.
ReplyDeleteWe hope that is all we see as well, a few travel days then relax. and so on..
DeleteYou just never know what kind of weather we'll hit on the trek home but with 3 weeks to go, we're still smiling! Travel safely!
ReplyDeleteThat is so true, we still have time to enjoy some nice weather for a while.
DeleteHave a safe trip east - we were lucky to avoid any snow coming back.
ReplyDeleteThanks Larry looking forward to good roads on our travels.
DeleteSNOW! Ha, the nerve… Love that rest area. Giving the guy a couple of gallons of gas is a nice thing to do. Better than cash. Safe travels to you both.
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter.
DeleteThe snow was not tis, glad I always carry some extra gas.
Hopefully that is the last of the Snow you will see until you get back to Ontario.
ReplyDeleteNice that the guy excepted Gasoline rather then Cash.
Be Safe and Enjoy the Adventure.
It's about time.
We hope that is the last of the snow. He actually asked for cash so he could get gas. Ok he got gas. no cash sorry guy.We always enjoy our adventures no matter where we are.
DeleteGeorge I do not know how you get up so early! Glad you were able to maneuver around El Paso without a problem. Welcome to Texas!
ReplyDeleteI am hoping to sleep later , but I just wake up and toss and turn, usually about 6 hours sleep or so most nights and I am good.
DeleteWE parted ways at Deming. Haha. Feels like we were almost stalking you again George.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you in your comment to Kevin Read. WE are all different and we all view things very differently. Like you I try to see the glass as half full instead of half empty. I'm not always successful but I try.
Safe travels!!!
Yes we did . part ways, would have been nice to see you again though. There is only so many ways to travel back to Ontario and enjoy decent weather along the way. Yes we all view things differently and have our own style of travel. My glass is always half full.
