Another good nights sleep 36 F at 5 am should be a good travel day. Waiting for the sunrise then we can hit the road, we are ready to keep on moving. Did get a couple of short walkabouts here in the rest area, nice that they have secure lighting so we are not in complete darkness.
Pulled out around 8:30 am south on I-10 then east on I-20 next to no wind at all a beautiful sunny day blue skies and making good time. A nice Sunday drive in the comfort of our home on wheels.

a beautiful sunrise to begin our day |
Heading through Odessa and Midland Texas , we have travelled many times but think this was the nicest day over the years. No slow downs at all. Amazing all the Oil wells, refineries tank trucks and trains, oil everywhere you look, not a pretty area but I am sure prosperous. And the strange thing right here with all these refineries gas prices almost the highest we have seen them this winter with $2.69 a gallon for regular, glad we don't need fuel yet.

I-10 and I-20 love the signs in the roads |
|
East on I-20 towards Ft Worth |

nice and quiet drive today |
Stopped at everyone of these beautiful rest areas to stretch and get some walking done. We arrived at our destination, the Flying J in Tye Texas at 2:30 pm 319 miles in, Another great travel day. Three reasons, cheaper gas $2:20 a gallon, free overnight parking, and we can spend our savings on a tasty meal at Denny's here, we have found a couple of items we enjoy. We did manage to get an rv parking spot, just have to patient, people like to park their cars here and not use the car parking spots. No matter we have time and don't want to travel anymore today.

huge rest area very nice |
|
playgrounds |
|
and the Tornado shelters too |
|
lots of refineries along here as well |
Love the mosaic in the restrooms along here they are amazing.
|
hundreds these oil wells |
Walkabout the parking lots here at the Flying J, checking the trucks like I enjoy and always check out the store and can often find some handy items that I just can't live without, not yet though. Also I was so warm from the hot sun and no wind sweater was off quickly and on with my shorts, yup this is nice!
Shortly after 4 pm we headed into Denny' s for an early supper and I ordered my favourite the Crazy Spicy Skillet with Chorizo, sausage, potatoes, hot peppers grilled chicken breast and their special spicy sauce (I ask for extra of that). Suzie the 55+ omelette and we had a very tasty meal for less that $20. a good deal we saved $24.00 on 60 gallons of gas and a free parking spot with everything right here, This worked for us, not everybody but this is what we do.
|
Gas $2.25 we save 5 cents a gallon with our Good Sam card so $2.20 |
|
we shared a small caesar salad to start |
|
my Crazy Spicy Skillet love the spicey kick |
|
Suzi'e's Omelette she enjoyed |
Now here it is almost 7:00 pm and a sunset not due for about 90 minutes so I will not wait for that. In the morning once the sunrises we will be back on the road again for a couple of hundred miles where we will hang out for a few days and enjoy some hopefully nice weather.
That was our nice travel day, enjoying the scenery, sunshine and warm weather. Got to where we wanted to be had a tasty treat for supper and looking forward to a relaxing evening.
Want to thank y'all for following along with us and hope you enjoyed your day as well.

Glad your travels are going smoothly and you are saving money while you are at it.
ReplyDeleteBe Safe and Enjoy the changing Scenery.
It's about time.
Thanks just moving right along and enjoying the journey.
DeleteSorry, I’m with Suzie!!!! Lol. Keep away from those tornados. Perfect weather here today cept for a little wind.
ReplyDeleteThats why we have choices, no spicy stuff for here.We keep watching for the tornadoes and hope we never see one. Have come close a few times though , always prepared.
DeleteI live in Texas and I do believe this is the first time I have ever seen a tornado shelter in a rest area. Ofcourse, I only travel from Del Rio to Houston.
ReplyDeleteWe do not have a Denny's here but if we did I think I would love to try The Crazy Spicy Skillet, I enjoy spicy food.
If I am not being nosy what time do you go to bed?
There is a few tornado shelters in the rest areas we stop at along the way travelling through tornado alley They Skillet was excellent. LOL. have always gone to be at 9 pm , if not I fall asleep anyway! Hey don't know what happened I slept until 6:30 this morning!
DeleteBoth of your meals look delicious! wow the savings on the fuel Awesome! Looks like a great day for the two of you!
ReplyDeleteBoth meals were very tasty, love to save money where we can. We did had a wonderful travel day.
DeleteThe mosaic art is really wonderful. And your meals both look good. But I'm with Suzie to they make the best omlets.
ReplyDeleteYes we do love the artwork and they keep these areas nice and clean as well.
DeleteThey do make wonderful and pretty reasonable too.
Happy St. Patrick's Day to you and Suzie, also.
ReplyDeleteNice to read you are moving right along with no issues. Crazy that you had snow in New Mexico. The rest stops along I-20 in Texas really are nice. Flying J is not a bad stop on the road and it is nice that they have a RV area versus parking next to the semis especially if they keep their engines running. Safe Travels.
Thanks guys, yeah really, snow! They do have some nice rest step making here, we don't like to park with the semis too loud back there, the rv parking works for us if not full of cars. It is tight but we only here for the night anyway.
DeleteNice to see you moving along with good travel days too. We wondered if we'd see you yesterday, just another hop, skip and a jump so unless your plans changed, we'll see you later!
ReplyDeleteDrive safe this morning.
it was a good travel day, but we had enough. No we have not planed on stopping there, we were there last year. Heading further north and east its been a few years.
DeleteLooks like a good day of travel and glad you're not getting the winds we had.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great travel day and not not had the strong winds after friday.
DeleteLovely looking omelette. Very good price on Diesel but then I guess it is lower because you are in Texas.
ReplyDeleteThe omelette was very good and the fuel prices around here pretty good, gas even better.
DeleteI'm enjoying your route and making some notes for our future travels. Thanks for sharing George.
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb, glad to have you along.
