After the tornado warnings, heavy rain and high winds overnight, this morning is sunny and warm. There appears to be no damage around the resort, other than a few small branches on the ground, so all is good.
We do love fresh fish, especially Lake Erie pickerel (or walleye as some people call them). And found out that we can go to Wheatley (supposedly the "Freshwater Fish Capital of the World"). Its only a short drive about 15 minutes away so shortly after 10:00 am we took a scenic route there.
welcome to Wheatley
Once in town we made our way to the waterfront with quite a few fishing boats, a few fish packing plants and at least three stores where we could buy some fresh fish.

By now its about noon so we decided to grab a bite to eat for lunch, and the "Car Barn" Restaurant and Tavern was recommended by the visitor centre for good fish. A nice friendly atmosphere, good service, a very good food and reasonably priced.

Still hanging on the ceiling is a "smoke eater" from the days when smoking was allowed is restaurants. Have not seen one of these for quite a few years in Ontario.

We are wanting pickerel and of course it is on their menu so that was our choice for a nice light lunch, oh soo good!
lightly battered pickerel
With craving take care of we went back to the first fish market, Loop Fisheries, and picked up two, one pound fillets of pickerel, only $8.00 a pound. A good price because about 15 years ago we paid over $10.00 a pound. Now back to Leamington and the town pier with a few nice yachts there to check out.
nice boat
Then back home we can putter around a bit, relax with our books and read for a while, then about 4 o'clock visit our friends for Happy (Social) Hour, chat and catch up. Five o'clock back home, fire up our barbie to grill a couple of pork chops, with fresh sliced beefsteak tomatoes, and reheated whipped potatoes.
tasty
A nice relaxing casual supper, clean up then back to visit the guys with a nice roaring campfire and more stories.
Glad to hear your safe and sound...great looking food made me hungry now I have to go eat....lol
