Another good desert sleep 42 F at 4:30 this morning and a beautiful starry night tome cloudless sky. My first walkabout for 2 miles as the sun was rising, a great way to start the day before it gets too hot.as the sun is rising |

Where have we been this Winter?
I bet it's nice to be in Quartzsite again. Lucky for you. Looks like lots of room.....for now.
ReplyDeleteAh, so you do the turkey on a trivet! I just put mine directly on the BBQ mat and it overcooked on the bottom. I learn from the master! :-)
Alway love Quartzsite, not so busy and always lotsa room you know that.
DeleteYes Dave just a small bakery cooking wire rack ( I call a trivet) covered with foil so so it does not burn on the bottom let the air circulate.
That is a big bird! Great early morning photos.
ReplyDeleteIt is big but we will get a lot of good eating from it..
DeleteLove the early mornings here in the desert.
I also need to learn from the master. George would you be so kind to show us some time what your trivet for the Weber looks like. I tried also a turkey on the mat and it did not turn out. Have done it at home on the rotisserie, but with the RV do not have the luxury. Thanks in advance.
ReplyDeleteI will take a picture and put it on Saturdays posting. The mat works great for some things but not something real large that needs to cook for a long time. So a little air space works to help het it more evenly. We don't have a large BBQ so I can make do with this wonderful Weber Q.
DeleteAnother great day at Q before the major fun begins. Cold and wet on the coast ... and it is heading your way! Dinner looks great have not fired up the BBQ in a while. Gotta fix hat!
ReplyDeleteYes Jeff I can see we are getting some cooler cloudy days and possibly rain. That sort comes with a wind from the east. Oh my you have nit fired up you grill, better get right on it.
DeleteThat turkey sure looks good and you don't wrap all the way just sit it on the foil? I have a big turkey breast in the freezer and this made me think I should put it and in BBQ take a few days to defrost so that should give me time to see and answer from you.
ReplyDeleteI guess you could wrap it, I want the skin crispy. Set it on a foil covered trivet or bread cooling rack, and a piece of foil under that too, so that it does not burn on the bottom, I set my heat an the Weber about med to high, about 20 minutes a pound internal temperature 165 F, The more you open the lid the longer it takes, so don't be peaking.
DeleteBoy oh boy I love that pizza!! I'm loving that the weather has turned warmer. Rain expected here today.
ReplyDeleteAl's Pizza is awesome . It was warmer cooling down a bit and a bit of rain, but sure beats the much colder snowy weather back home.
DeleteDinner looked great as usual. I read your post in the mornings then get hungry. Thanks for the cooking tips George. We have rain here for the next few days but it's very cold back home so we can put up with some rain.
ReplyDeleteThanks Loree, now you can think about making supper all day long. We will be getting some rain as well, but like you said much better than back home,
DeleteAnother nice day in the desert. How did we ever get so lucky?
ReplyDeleteKeep on enjoying, George!
It was a wonderful day, we git so lucky by living this lifestyle and make the right choices.
DeleteWe will enjoy every day and you as well I know you can do it too.
Amazing what we can cook on our BBQ's. We only need to be inventive and use the trial and error method to find the best way. That is a huge HALF a bird. Happy turkey eating.
ReplyDeleteKeep on enjoying the desert!!!
That's right Deb being inventive works for me, A large bird but them again do love our turkey/chicken.
DeleteNothing quite like the desert is there?
I really like your cooking discussions. It has helped me prepare my meals often. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteGlad your enjoy this Barney cooking should be easy and fun, no need to make it difficult.
DeleteTurkey is a good choice. Often we think it is only for Christmas and such but it is good anytime. I actually like the turkey sandwich the day after.
ReplyDeleteWe love turkey anytime and can do so much with it.
