Where are we today ?

Our last night at sea and we both had a great sleep, up early as usual just after 5 am still dark out here. Was going to sit on our balcony but heck it's cold out there! only 62F. Ok ,did some computing inside for a bit got dressed and a walkabout the deck for a few laps and a few coffees consumed. We are in Galveston port now and the debarkation supposed to begin at 8:15 am, We found out yesterday at the info meeting there is actually just over 4,900 passengers on board , that is a lot for people to get off 12 levels of this ship and only one gangway. They called out your deck then proceed to 3, We sat on deck 11 in the sunshine reading and waited. I would read a bit and a few laps. read and walk, actually got 5 miles done here on deck while waiting and reading. We chose not to have breakfast , because neither of us were hungry trying to get our food intake to a manageable level again.

looking out our balcony at 5 am, too cold to sit outside here yup we in port ! |
The big screen by the beach pools was biding us farewell.
|
yes it was so much fun! |
|
not many people on deck now getting ready to debark |
|
another cruise ship coming into port as well |
|
from our balcony |
|
that ship docked right behind us |
|
this be the children daycare outside area |
|
barge being pushed into port right beside us |
|
did catch a sunrise in Galveston port much nicer at sea |
Then noticed below they are refuelling this ship, pumping out the sewage and bringing in fresh water for the next departure this afternoon.
|
a freighter just pulling onto port in front of us |
|
right across spotted this Oil rig in port must be getting repairs done |
Finally at 11 am we proceeded to debark and on shore then the lineup for US customs, They do not rush even though 10 or more agents, it still takes a while to check almost 5 thousand people. Cleared customs by 1 pm finally, then the shuttle to our car and on the road back to Willis Texas 102 miles north on I-45 straight through Houston, Pretty good drive and only a couple of slow downs. Back home by 3:10 pm.
|
we are in port now. the sign says so |
Waiting in line chatted with a few people and so many of these people take a family cruise every year, but they live in Texas so is very reasonable. Nice that they can do that makes for a great family vacation.
|
this be the lines for customs, a social time, chat with people in line helps pass the time |
|
now onto I-45 north to Willis |
Unloaded the car and Suzie unpacked our bags while I whipped into the grocery store for some fresh produce to whip up supper.
Now we can relax outside (Happy Hour) a quick snack as we had not eaten today yet., only 64 F and in the shade here but sure is nice to be back to our home again peace and quiet.
|
relaxing an reading outside our home |
Whipping up supper, I have missed doing for the last week, a stir fry with chicken breast, fresh veggies etc to go with out regular salad. No point setting up our Weber Q only here for 2 nights then back on the road heading to the southwest.
|
this sure hit the spot tonight |
|
very tasty and some leftovers |
That was our day offloading from the cruise and making our way back home.
Now back to our regular program again. Living the life we love full-time in our rv. The Anniversary cruise was excellent, Back home and the honeymoon continues, as we get back on the road again.

Happy that you had an Enjoyable Anniversary Cruise and that you are Safely back Home.
ReplyDeleteIt's about time.
What a fun week we had, nice to be home again peaceful relaxing but cooler.
DeleteWelcome home but that took much longer then I expected for you to get off the boat and to clear customs. I suspect that because you were not catching a flight somewhere that you were one of the last to be cleared. Regardless you had a wonderful week in paradise. Enjoy your bed tonight.
ReplyDeleteNever took that long here last cruise at this port, but no problem we were comfy and warm.
DeleteWOW I did miss getting to see your fantastic meals. Welcome back.
ReplyDeleteThanks Barney, yo can go back on the postings if you wish. they are all there.
DeleteWelcome back home. It does take a long time to get off the ship and through customs. A lot of waiting but surprisingly the time passes quickly.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your last 2 days in the park before you head southwest.
This time took longer and yes the time passed quickly, unwind here for a bit then on the road again.
DeleteWelcome home. That's a long time to disembark and get through customs. Safe travels!
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb,
DeleteOh well we in now big rush, and the weather was nice.
I gotta say your meals look better than what I saw on the boat.......and better for you too!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed your cruise. After reading your blog I'm not sure we're up for the stress and hassle of a cruise. I think it would kill me.
Making my own meals control what we eat, less temptation. We really enjoyed the cruise You can do a lot or do nothing on a cruise, the choice is yours.all inclusive.
DeleteI'm so happy your made home finally what a long day. But I know you enjoyed the cruise so much. And now your back in your own kitchen stiring up some great food. That fair you made with all the veggies and chicken sure looked good.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to be back home again but the cruise was so much fun. I do enjoy cooking some light tasty meals. Always feel much better,
DeleteIt's hard to imagine the efficiency of the crew to disembark nearly 5000 passengers and load another 5000 in a day! Welcome back!
ReplyDeleteThe people were already lining up when we were leaving they do everything like clockwork
DeleteSounds like as much as you and Suzie enjoyed the cruise you are glad to be back home. It is always a nice feeling to be back in familiar surroundings.
ReplyDeleteWE did love the cruise, but the party is over, Ee do enjoy our full-time lifestyle , time to get back on the road again.
DeleteJust got to ask you a question--Suzie and you each had a packed bag (I hope I read it right) which you carried onto the Vista cruise ship, and you did not check any bags to be delivered to your cabin when you boarded. Am I correct? If so, when we have cruised on Carnival, Princess, Norwegian, and other cruise lines, those cruise lines allowed us to debark along with the first group of passengers because we never checked any bags in the beginning for handling; but we had to go down to the ship's customer service to let them know we wanted early debarkation because we were carrying off our own bags. We initially found this out from our Cabin Steward. Did Carnival make this information available to you?
ReplyDeleteIf they did make the info available we missed it probably did that last cruise but forgot. We got to spend a few more quiet hours on deck by the pool, just got home later.
DeleteNice trip you had but it is probably equally as nice to be home. Welcome back.
ReplyDeleteWe always love cruises and each one seems to get better. Always nice to get back home so we can take our home somewhere else.
DeleteHard to believe those ships can hold so many people and have so much to do. Even harder to believe they can get it ready for another departure so quickly. Always good to get back home.
ReplyDelete=It is one amazing operation simply works like clockwork. Nice to be back in our coach again.
DeleteWhat a wonderful trip for your special anniversary. I always look forward to returning to my own cooking after one of these type trips. While the food is amazing.... it can't beat home cooking. Now you've made me hungry for stir fry! Enjoy your last few days before moving on to your next location.
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun week and I too enjoy returning home and get some cooking done again. Then hop on the road after all that rest we had. Got that hitch itch.
DeleteAs fun as a holiday is it is always nice to get back home to our regular full time holiday :-) On the last cruise we took we cleared customs on board the ship, it was much quicker and made getting off the ship go quickly.
ReplyDeleteWe just relaxed on deck and enjoyed our reading and walking plus the quiet here as well. Guess we missed something in the information seminar.
DeleteNo, I don't think you missed anything. It was just luck that we talked a lot to the crew. The cruise line doesn't want a disorderly cattle drive with the first group trying to make their planes and buses on time, so they don't put it out there unless you ask. If you think about it, your way was the best way because there would be no competition on the roads with people leaving port and the going-to-work rush hour traffic in the early morning. You would just sit back and enjoy your coffee and breakfast while everyone else was rushing around.
DeleteMaxx, really do like that; if you remember, what ship and cruise line was that? I'm guessing, maybe it was a convenience the port made to the cruise line! What a great idea!
DeleteYeah Max we just waited and relaxed in the sun still got home by 3 pm so all was good.
DeleteThe last cruise I was on, we had to have our luggage outside the door at 6:00 am, then we hung around until maybe 9:30. Once off the ship, we had to go through a warehouse to find our luggage that had been gone through by drug sniffing dogs. Weird, right? Luckily our luggage wasn't taken by someone else. YOUR trip looked like the most fun ever! I'll have to check them out!

DeleteCarnival is the fun ship and we have always enjoyed their cruises. Taking our smaller bags and carry on worked for us wonderfully, we just goofed on the debarking but really not an issue. Only 2 hours home .
Welcome back to land and your cute home. Looks like you both had a wonderful time and I loved being along for the cruise through your blog. :) Gotta say your dinner looked wonderful! It is amazing how they can get everything done and ready for 5000 more people that quickly. wow..
ReplyDeleteThanks guys glad that I could post right from the ship, easier for me to keep updated. It is amazing how they pull it off with all these passengers.
DeleteA fun time on the cruise but the best part is getting home!
ReplyDeleteThe cruise was excellent , now we are back to our regular programming .
DeleteGlad you had such a good cruise!
ReplyDeleteThanks Stew we really enjoyed it a fun week we had.
