Where are we today ?
It is Wednesday morning and very dewy. Was gonna wax part of our coach this morning. But instead, early this morning we hopped in the car and did a day trip to Sombra Ontario. Nice country drive about an hour away past many oil refineries along the St.Clair river.
Destination the duty free shop in Marine City Michigan. At Sombra we hopped on the ferry across the river, checked in with customs in the USA, went to the duty free picked up a case of Canadian Rye. Only $12.99 a bottle Canadian funds! ($72.00) Back across the river to Canadian Customs paid the taxes here at customs $137.00 ! But the total cost per bottle with all taxes $35.90 compared to the same bottle here in Ontario at $57.95 There we good to go for a while and and got 1/2 price booze. Mind you if we did not drink would save a lot more.

Check out the interactive map below to see where we have been this Spring and Summer.
Wow...that is a LOT of savings, but also a LOT of money for a bottle of booze. geez.
ReplyDeleteCanada is expensive, we like to save money when we can.
DeleteNow that is a fun way to save money. Love the sports car and trailer. How much does the ferry cost or do you just walk on?
ReplyDeleteThe Ferry is $3.00 per person to walk on return trip, it was $2.00 each before July, but still a good deal.
DeleteSounds like a real fun day. Anything else to do other than get booze?
DeleteWe could browse the few small shops or a restaurant or Bar, but not much else here that we have not seen over the years. And it was a nice day for a drive, wanted to get back and start waxing the coach.
DeleteYou're going to have to change your widget soon to # of days before we head south again. Won't that be exciting !!!
ReplyDeleteHey Ruth thanks for reminding me I believe we have a departure date set so guess I can do it.
DeleteIt was a great day yesterday again. It doesn't hurt that I am on vacation! Love that sun's warmth this time of year, especially without the humidity but I don't complain about it anyway! Off to MI tomorrow morning early for a week. Hope your week goes well!
ReplyDeleteVacations are awesome, even better when you don't have to go to work.
DeleteWhat/why is Gerry painting is trailer for? Looks like graffiti in your photo... just wonderin'
ReplyDeleteThat is the campgrounds old trailer. This weekend the kids can go nuts and do the graffiti thing, they do every year.
DeleteI just Googled that wax. It is discontinued so if you want more, buy it now. My local Walmart has a couple of them left for $22 each.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, will keep an eye out for it.
DeleteThats a good price too.
Hard to believe the economics of the whiskey. Looks like the whiskey makers are sticking it to their Canadian customers.
ReplyDeleteNot the makers it is all taxes here in Canada.
DeleteAt prices like that, I am glad I quit drinking years ago.
ReplyDeleteHey and thats a good thing.
DeleteWOW...I didn't know you could save so much on one bottle of drink.
ReplyDeleteI have never in my like seen anyone paint a trailer like that. It looks like someone wrote graffiti all over it.
Booze is expensive here in Canada, taxes ya know.
DeleteThe kids do the graffiti every year for fun and then it gets painted white so they can do it again.
Amazing how Gerry was able to paint all those colors on the trailer with a paint roller. What talent! :cD
ReplyDeleteYep he is talented and with a computer too!
