Nice day trip to Michigan and spent some money to save lotsa money.

        What a wonderful way to start the day, shortly after 7 am I did a quick wash of our coach(including the roof) and car before it warmed up too much. About 45 minutes and I am done, does not take me long. Then by 9 am we are ready to hit the road for a nice day trip.
        Heading to Marine City Michigan for 3 reasons. One for a nice day trip, two to pick up some Gluten Free Honey Nut Cheerios for daughter number 2, and three to stop at the duty free store on the way back to stock up on some cheap booze.

      Not a problem a wonderful day get out stretch a while and enjoy the scenery.

Our Ferry is returning

We first on so first off

       We drove around the small town of Marine city for a bit, stopped in the grocery store and picked up 5 boxes of Gluten Free honeynut cheerios , then back to the ferry. This is a nice small American town, very quaint.

      This bottle below at the Duty Free is $12.00 Canadian, with tax and Duty total $38.00, but at the Liquor store here is $58.00, taxes Canada are very high, but we have free? health care ?

       Now home for a light lunch, and just putter around for a while, enjoying our e-readers and watching this Robin looking for worms under our awning for quite a while, kept coming back.

      Then I put some pork ribs on our Weber Q in foil with sauerkraut, on low for a couple hours. For the recipe click here or my recipe blog top right sidebar. And for the last 30 minutes added a couple cobs of corn soaked in water for and hour or so.

        Then remove the ribs from the pan, save the sauerkraut, and set the ribs on my grill mat and slather with some sticky, sweet, spicy bbq sauce for a while to nicely glaze them.

oh so tasty

         What a fun day getting out and about, spending some money, saving lotsa money and enjoyed the drive on a wonderful hot sunny day. The breeze in our faces and a boat ride to boot.

         Now its after 9 pm and trying to post our blog , between chatting with people as they walk by,  it is a wonderful evening and I am not in huge rush to get things done. After all I don't get paid by the hour anymore. Actually the government pays me not to work, like this job, getting old does have its perks. !

Where are we today ?

         It is Wednesday morning and very dewy. Was gonna wax part of our coach this morning. But instead, early this morning we hopped in the car and did a day trip to Sombra Ontario. Nice country drive about an hour away past many oil refineries along the St.Clair river.

         Destination the duty free shop in Marine City Michigan. At Sombra we hopped on the ferry across the river, checked in with customs in the USA, went to the duty free picked up a case of Canadian Rye. Only $12.99 a bottle Canadian funds! ($72.00) Back across the river to Canadian Customs paid the  taxes here at customs $137.00 !  But the total cost per bottle with all taxes $35.90 compared to the same bottle here in Ontario at $57.95 There we good to go for a while and and got 1/2 price booze. Mind you if we did not drink would save a lot more.

         Not far from home stop at Burham Orchards for some fresh fruit, Tomatoes, Strawberries and peaches. We good to go for a few days now.

       Back home in time for a light lunch then putter around for a bit and some walkabouts.

       Now I want to do some waxing of our coach. Use this amazing wax below, just wipe on and wipe off, easy peasy and good for a year or more.

       Tonight Turkey Garlic sausage, grill zucchini and a salad.

            There ya go we had a fun productive day. What's not to like about that?

         Today we had plan, lets take  a day trip to Marine City Michigan. The main reason is to go to the Duty free shop and get some cheap booze. Hoping for a nice drive but we had clouds and major rain long the way, but did it anyway. Left here at 9 am and an hours drive. Walked on the ferry (rain has stopped) $1.00 each round trip, checked into customs, did a short walkabout town to use the facilities then duty free shop to get what we are after. They loan us a hand cart to take our stuff back across the river to our car.

         This a cool set up they have here, you can check out their website by clicking HERE .  Now  we can buy a 1.75 litre of Canadian whiskey here for $12.00 but with taxes and duty back to Canada cost us $34.90. Same bottle here in Ontario $58.90. So to make the trip worth while we picked up 6 bottles. Total savings of $144.00 will do us for quite a while. Mind you if we did not drink alcohol we would save a lot more. ??!! Not a huge savings on beer that we mainly drink so it was still a fun trip. Would have been nicer in the sunshine but hey, it is what it is.

       We have been here before and don't need to go for lunch, we have food at home.

          We walked a couple blocks to use the facilities then back to the Duty free store.

        Got our supplies at the Store and back on the ferry. This huge tractor trailer took up half the boat but there is one Ferry every 18  minutes. We walk on so no problem.

        Back home for lunch then I whipped up a Broccoli apple salad. For 2 functions. Some for tomorrow when family stops in and the rest for a family reunion on Sunday.
