Sun. Oct. 2nd, Sunday Fleamarket

Well we have another cool windy day a little sunshine in the morning and not too much rain. So morning coffees, computing and walkabout, chat with a few people then we will make our last outing for this year to the Pinery Antique Fleamarket in Grand Bend.

We got there about noon and it was actually pretty busy considering how cold it was and most everything is outside. A lot of vendors booths were closed, the ones open were trying to get warm, but I am sure there will be a lot more next weekend for the seasons closing. Still lots to look at and check out we got a few more books from our favorite book exchange here. But found it a little to chilly to sit in the open court with a cold beer (or even a coffee for that matter) and listen to Brian Dale playing his guitar and singing, don't know how he can play in the cold. It was about 8c (45f) but with the wind and no sun it felt much colder.

On our way back we stopped to take a look at this old abandoned house that had been hidden in the bush and vines for years. Now uncovered it looks so interesting, mysterious, full of history and intriguing stories, if only the walls could talk.

Past here thru the town of Thedford we headed to the hamlet of Sylan to see what proprietor  (Book Gnome) Bob Lewis has in books for us.  Just an amazing collection of books and Suzie was in her glory. With her 7 page 4 column wide Access data base in hand we checked out the shelves for a while and managed to come out with a nice bag full of reading material to keep us going until we find a few used book vendors down south in our travels. Love the sign for his store "Sylan's Foremost Bookstore", Sylvan is only a crossroad on a country road, with maybe a half dozen houses and the bookstore being the only storefront business here, but he knows where the books are and his prices are great, our last time here was Sept 3rd.

No back home and I am going make another attempt at cooking a 3 lb prime rib roast, the other day I purchased one for only $3.97 a pound, excellent price! So after researching various techniques and recipes I decided with a low and slow method in our oven. Searing it for about 15 minutes at 450f then turn the oven down to 250f for about two hours until the internal temperature reaches 125f remove from the oven and let it rest covered for 30 minutes, it did rise to 135f done to a perfect rare. Meanwhile reduce the au jus and made the yorkshire pudding. Done just the way I like there was even enough on the edge more medium well for Suzie, oh and lots of leftovers too.

Now supper done and cleaned up we can enjoy our books for a bit then a movie on tv a nice relaxing sunday, thanks for stopping by for supper.

  3. "With her 7 page 4 column wide Access data base in hand we checked out"...does Suzie keep a list of all she has read?

Yes, every book that we have read for the last six/seven years with comments good, bad and books that we have not read in a series, including authors that we like. She reads them first and passes on books that I would like. Same way she tracks every penny we spend.
