Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
since August 2006
One thing about parking in a Walmart or Flying J we find that after we have a nice supper and watch a bit of tv we call it a an earlier than usual night. Then we are up early in the morning, compute, coffees even a walkabout the parking lot. We have no setup up at all and the car is still hooked up so as the sun rises we are on the road at 6:50 this morning. Its nice that we are both morning people. This way we are not rushing just sitting in our home driving down the highway, listen to some tunes, checking out the beautiful sights, chit chat, Suzie computing (navigating with Streets and Trips gps) and stopping to stretch at pretty well every rest area along the way.
326 miles (524 kms) today
We travelled some great quiet roads with nice scenery.
nice drive
Entering each state usually there is a nice rest area and Welcome Centre that we love to stop at and check out, quite a few have free coffee too.
Rest Area decorations
Now before we know its about noon and we are at the Louisiana Welcome Centre. Here we gathered some information (we will be here for a few weeks) had a free coffee and and were welcomed by their big friendly smiles and southern drawl. The out to our coach for a bite to eat for lunch.
lots of info
Now a few more miles and we enter the town of Abita Springs, something about this place that keeps us coming back. A mystical feeling with the oak trees and spanish moss hanging over the roads.
coming into town
downtown Abita Springs
The other side of town out to the resort the road has been repaved and widened, wow its so nice.
nice smooth road now
We were checked in and setup shortly after 1 o'clock and it felt real good. Hot, humid and sunshine I think we like this.
nice site between the ponds
Then a little walkabout the resort to check things out and all is looking real good.Chat with the friendly managers Renea and Lamar even Renea's sister, Booboo stopped by to welcome us back, love their southern accents.
the pool looks good
the Canada Geese beat us here
new peddle boats this year
Ok enough of this looking about we actually have time to sit and relax in the shade with our books.
beautiful day
Then I can get our Weber grill out to cook some nice garlic sausage, baked potatoes, carrots, sauerkraut and a habanero pepper, my brother gave me a bunch from their garden.
tasty supper
Now we are here enjoying sunshine and much warmer weather than back home, just don't much care for cold winters anymore, as a matter of fact don't ever remember enjoying cold winters as much as sunshine and warmth. Sorry Ma.
Aren't the Welcome Centres in each state great?! Between those stops, and the Flying J stops, it takes forever to get anywhere, but it is a great thing to do, a fun way to travel. We have enjoyed it each time we have made the trip south! It's great having all your own stuff on board, so it doesn't matter how long it takes!
Glad you made it down safely and are now enjoying the nice beautiful weather. Looks like you have a nice spot there by the pond.

ReplyDeleteThe warm weather is great! But we will be moving from this spot in a day or two for a sewer site, free camping anyway and we are here for 12 days.
Lou:
Yes traveling in our house is great, when you heading south ??
Looks like a lovely spot. By the way those geese look familiar, I think they are from our lake in Kelowna.

ReplyDeleteYes we love it here, I think these geese are cousins of your geese !
