Sat. Mar. 19th 2011 Abita Brewery

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Started off the day with very warm and lotsa sunshine. Today is Saturday and its going to get hot about 92f (30c) so what better way to enjoy it than to take a free tour of Abita Brewing company.
Abita Brewery
on the corner
We have done it before but its been over a year and its always nice to see again how my favourite beverage is made and to sample any new ones that may be available. Did I mention it was free ?
Tour times
Well it was just Jon, Ron and myself today (boys night out in the middle of the day) so off we go at 12:30 for the 1:00 pm tour. We had to wait in the courtyard, with music and chatting until the earlier tour was done. We were handed a plastic cup on the way in and were told to help ourselves to all the beer we wanted for the next hour.
so many choices
With the long line at the beginning we start with a nice size sample, then we could continue to sample different brews as we liked. The whole set up is like a wonderful pub with two large screen TV's  for us to view an excellent video of the brewing process and the history of the Brewery.
nice pub
beer cellar
After the video we were told to fill up our glasses (and of course we do as we are told) and into the cellar for a bit of a tour.

Here's Ron hanging on to his sample while he got his camera out.

This cellar is huge with many large stainless  steel vats that hold 300 Kegs each and impressive site.
 the Three Musketeers
Now after the tour we were told to fill our glasses again because time was running out.
soo good.
So a quick refill, chat a bit more, then outside on the patio so the next tour group can have their turn.
nice patio
Jon was our driver, he only had a couple of small samples so we were good to go. On the way out some locals pushing their new car down the road, I guess they couldn't afford the gas for it and wanted to go for a spin anyway.
gas too expensive
After we left here, a stop in Covington at the Market to stock up on some wine they had on sale only $1.50 a bottle, wow !
Acquistapace's
Ok, back home now we can relax in the shade with our books for a while and fire up the barbie for some nice rib eye steaks (got on sale) baked potatoes, fresh mushrooms, onions, and and acorn squash. The squash was a bit charred because of the brown sugar and butter but was still pretty tasty.
tasty
After supper it was still pretty warm so over to Ron and Mary's, we all got together while Ron played his guitar and we sang along to a few of his songs.

Well it was a busy day, and lots of fun , somebody has to do it and we are glad that we have the opportunity and our health to do so. Great meeting up with friends along the way.
