Ok now we have just kinda hung out for a few days enjoying the sunshine and hot weather, (we seem to do that a lot!). But its now saturday, its spring break, lotsa kids in the campground and there is a fleamarket about 30 minutes away that we would like to check out.
So after a quick trip to the store and a late breakfast we hopped in the car and headed out. There was a book exchange along the way so we took in a bag full of books and did a pretty fair exchange.

From here a 20 minute drive thru Willis, south to Conroe then the loop around it to head east to the Flea Market. Along the way we passed a town with a unique name "Cut and Shoot", this really makes you wonder where they get the names to some of these places. Well I checked the internet and a few ideas as to the origin of the name came up, just click
here to read about it.

Now a bit further along we reached our destination,
Old Security Square Flea Market.

entrance |
We parked our car and wandered up and down the rows of outside vendors, with lotsa stuff from clothes to fresh vegetables. Very much a Mexican influence out here, lotsa fun.

Before heading into the large covered building we saw a sign pointing to Books. Followed the arrow which lead us thru an open garage door with a sign saying this way to a "House full of Books". Wow it is a house full of books, we entered from the garage into the kitchen, full of books, dining room, living room full of books, three bedrooms and even the bathroom full of books.
It was sure s sight to see floor to ceiling books, not organized at all, even stacks of them on the floor, in the middle of the room, just barely enough room to walk around. We had just done a book exchange and were not really interested in rummaging thru mountains of books at the moment, looking for particular authors.

inside vendors |
Now inside to walkabout and check a few more vendors. Finally being all walked and shopped out, ( I bought a $3.00 pair of sunglasses). Back to the car, turn on the air conditioning and cruise thru the scenic countryside back towards Willis and home. As we chatted it became evident that we both craved a pizza today and decided that seeing as we were out and about we should stop by the
Pizza Shack once again and sample their pizza. The pasta and catfish we had last week was excellent so lets go back again and try the pizza..

Pizza Shack |
Well we started with a small? appetizer of hand dipped battered fresh mushrooms, this could have been a meal in itself.
|
yummy mushrooms. |
Then of course the Pizza, it was a hand stretched dough, nicely assembled, fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection. Almost as good as I used to make in my restaurant.
|
excellent pizza |
Of course we had some leftover, thats good for sunday lunch. But Suzie really wanted to try a desert here so we got that to go as well. It was authentic hand made
Sicilian Cannoli, we took this home and shared it much later,
so very good !

Now after this great day of exploring and eating, back home to enjoy a couple of hours in the sun with our books, until about 6:00 p.m. uninterrupted we sat outside, no supper to cook and without having to put warmer clothes on. Another fun day in Texas for us.
Thanks for stopping by.

ReplyDeleteYes Contessa it has been about 85f the last few days and of course humid so it does help in the car, at home we have a bit of shade and a nice breeze outside so its just great.
ReplyDeleteSomeone would have to be a really avivid reader to sit and go through that mound of books to find ones they want. I don't think I would have the patience for that.
ReplyDeleteYour meals the last few nights (well always) look delicious. But pig tails, never heard of someone eating pig tails!

Kevin and Ruth: Pigtails are a german/mennonite treat found in some of the Kitchener/Waterloo area restaurants and pubs, more flavor than ribs if prepared properly.
