Oatman Arizona, a gunfight and fun with the wild Burrows

Where are we today
clic on a pic to enlarge it
We going to do a nice day trip to Oatman Arizona, coming to this area is complete without a visit to Oatman. And of course we have been here a few times in the past and always enjoy it. Only 25 miles away and is sure worth the drive from here.
we parked our car here, free
then wandered about town
It is an interesting old (almost) ghost town, with a lot of tourist type shops with souvenirs etc. and we checked out some of them  all fun to look at and nice friendly people.
The Burrows were everywhere. They are wild and come in from the mountains during the day and people feed them.
the young one looking for his Mama.
found a sign for Suzie
Suzie sent me to Jackass Junction
It was a nice couple hours wandering about, not crowded on a Monday, just the way we planned it, but still busy enough.
like this sign,
but better when I was younger
Now have to check out the Oatman Hotel. Has an interesting history. Clarke Gable and Gail Lombard had a honeymoon suite way back when in 1939 for one night.
this be it as legend goes
1939

We had checked out a few shops and still had quite a while before the next gunfight in front of the Hotel. And the bar is something to see as well  almost every inch of this interior is covered with one dollar bills, (walls, ceilings, doors railings, you name it), well over one hundred thousand dollars.
Not too busy so we decided to have a beverage and a snack, kill some time. We had Burrow Ears ( sliced potatoes, deep fried with a dipping sauce that we shared, like fresh made potato chips) They were tasty. The entertainer here was excellent . We listened to his monologue for about 20 minutes of a great detailed history of this area, Oatman and route 66. Then he sang a few songs, that were wonderful too.
our snack Burrow ears
Then we wandered about town enjoying the sights and be back for the 2:15 pm show/gun fight.
Now we had to check out free mine tour, not much to it but heck it was free.
the residents here do carry guns
in their holsters
these burrows looking for treats
We bought a large bag of food for the burrows $1.00, not allowed to feed the  carrots anymore according to the BLM, makes them aggressive.
eat right out of your hand
even from me too
need to go?
could be a lineup here
another one looking for Mama
Suzie was looking for a real leather purse that she has been searching for a long time for. I really like the one below but not so much her. She actually bought one but I did not take a pic.
interesting cowgirl purse
nice touch singing some country songs
got food ?
these burrows know where to go
Now it is 2:15 pm time for the show. Always fun to listen to the dialogue and almost a comedy, sure is entertaining.  The bank robber robs the bank, then the bank robber, robber wants to rob him. A cowboy on the side solves the problem., shoots them both and walks away with the gold.
And all this was done right on Route 66.  The crowds have to block the traffic so they can do the shoot out.
Home by 3, relax in the shade , read for a while, chat with our neighbors for a bit then grill a couple salmon burgers for supper.
that was all we needed after our
 snack and fun day
Now we have pretty well seen what we want in this area (for now), and are enjoying some amazing weather 87f today and lows to 58f at night, what's not to love about that?
Thanks for stopping n and hope your day was wonderful as well.
Where have we been this Winter

  1. Gotta laugh at the feral donkeys, they are on the CA side too. Some time ago I pitched my tent on their path, thinking they'd just go around. NOPE! Just stood there and cried, until I gave up and moved the tent :) But cute as can be. Oatman was just a quick stop, sure missed a lot! Thanks for sharing.

  3. What a wonderful day in a little ghost town. We enjoyed Oatman also. The burrows just crack me up. I can't believe they are fatter with all that food people feed them.

    1. Always a fun place to stop when we are in the area.
I think the burrows move around quite a bit and back into the hills at night getting their exercise.

  6. It's been a while since we've been there. We took carrots last time. Nice to know we don't need them now.
