Tues. Jan. 4th Jamul Ca

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

The rains stopped the skies were bright now sunny and the air warmed up. We enjoyed our coffees and some computing, puttered about, packed up and were leisurely on the road at 9:30am. Down the mountain a bit, a huge boulder at the side of the road, that slid down the hill, glad it was moved over to the side.

We stopped for a some fuel, just enough to get us into Arizona in a couple of weeks. Fuel in Arizona is about 50 cents a gallon cheaper. The drive today was very nice thru the lower mountain areas, hills and valleys, twisting and winding roads very scenic. No interstate highways mostly two lanes with slow vehicle lanes on the hills. We arrived at Pio Pico at 11:30am,(with a wrong turn thrown in, so we took the more scenic route). This is a Thousand Trails resort about 10 miles from Jamul California. It is very large in the foothills in the middle of nowhere. With over 500 sites all and of the sewer sites were taken so we picked a nice large site in area G. We had full 30 amp electric, water and dumps stations available, so no problem. (they will pump out your sewer here for $20.00 !!!, I don't think so!). So now we set up on our site and find out we have no cell phone reception (a dead zone) and our internet not work here either (dead zone), hmm. They do have excellent wifi for the internet but rather expensive $21.00 for a week for each of our two computers. So we decide just get it for one computer for 3 days $11.00 then we will move on to Holtville California and camp in the desert on the free BLM land (Bureau of Land Management) by the Hot Springs for a few days, maybe run into a few friends there as well.

As nice as this campground is with two pools and two hot tubs, only one pool is working and the other hot tub is working. We felt like we were victims of a bit of gouging. We are ten miles to anywhere, no phone service, no internet and no stores other than the campground store, The prices they charged were much higher than normal, and the store very expensive, and $20.00 to pump out your sewage when they don't have sewer sites, $5. to $7. we have paid, and once $20.00 when we were dry camping in the desert at Quartzsite, but not in a campground.

So once we got over this, we set up our satellite dish and a walkabout, then relax in very warm sunshine and read for a while and chat with the neighbours.
awesome day!
Across from us is a very elderly lady with a big old 1965 Cadillac Coupe de ville in excellent shape for being in original condition that she uses to tow her travel trailer with. And next to us our neighbour had a visitor with a very customized Roush Mustang and I noticed the license plate the same.

We are not in bush like the last resort and the hills not as close so we had warm sunshine and no wind until almost 5:00 pm compared to 3:00 pm. When we went inside to prepare a tasty supper of a shake n bake porkchop, baked potato and spinach salad. Read for a bit then some NCIS on TV.

Then our plan is to see the San Diego Zoo tomorrow.
