Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

In the desert with lots of space, lots of dirt, lots of creosote bushes and lots of sunshine to warm our bodies and supply us with electricity by charging our batteries, the morning sunrise on the horizon begins to warm air very quickly. A walkabout checking things out and the Natural Hot Springs and hot shower at this beautiful Oasis here is the desert.

At 8:30 this morning 3 car loads of us were off to El Centro (the largest American City to lie entirely below sea level (-50 ft) about 15 minutes away for a "Snow Bird Breakfast" put on by the Chamber of Commerce. A few thousand of us snowbirds were there to enjoy this "free" event with pancakes, ham, coffee, juice, milk, water available and vendors there with free handouts as well as hundreds of giveaway prizes donated by local merchants. It is nice to know they do appreciate the dollars that we put into their community, as we enjoy a much nicer climate for the winters.

After breaky we drove about the city for a bit and stopped at a Walmart Supercentre for a few items then back towards home dirt, we toured about some of the BLM land around us, noting the abundance of solar panels that almost everyone here has. Silent and free electricity as long as the sun shines, as it almost always does here in southern California and Arizona. Also in behind this area is a Geothermal Field (Ormesa) where electricity is generated by the very hot natural underground water sources available here. After this I went over to the Hot Springs for a quick shower and a nice soak in the neck deep hot tub. Then back home to open our awning for a bit of shade and putter around and read for a while.

Shortly after 3:00 pm as people began to wander over to George and Gaye's site this signaled the beginning of Happy Hour, so we grabbed a beverage and some crackers, cheese and sausage and joined in with the social gathering. It appears that Tom had made a huge pan of meat  and beans with all the sauces and toppings for a huge pule of burritos enough to feed everyone supper, about 15 of us and anyone who stopped by, that plus all the other snacks supplied. This is always a fun time of socializing but we had a turkey breast in the oven so just had a small snack. We also met a couple that own the Bus conversion across from us (Hogan's Hilton) with huge solar panels on the roof. We have noticed this distinctive RV in various places on BLM land many times over the last 5 years, but never camped close to them or had chance to chat. Interesting info on their coach which was a 1972 Flxible city coach that they purchased in 1992 and spent over a year converting into their house on wheels.

Now at 5:30 its cooling down as the sun set and our supper should be ready, so we returned home, to dish up the succulent turkey breast, potatoes and broccoli for a nice tasty supper. Now we can chat, read a while and watch a bit of tv.
