A bit of a flashback to Jessies's Diner, and another great spring day.

Where are we today ?
clic a pic to enlarge it
Cooking on Mother's day flipping eggs on the grill brought back memories of my 10 Years in my restaurant Jessie's Diner. Opened on dream back in August 1989, never worked in a restaurant before, like to cook, but was always a dream, So followed my dream. Purchased a small soup and sandwich place in town, renovated some added equipment, deep fryer, small pizza oven and dove right in. It is a 10 year story with its ups and downs but always fun, other than the long hours.  So still have the menu from back then and thought I would share it with you. Named after my youngest daughter. Small town living is fun. Check out the prices!

Below is a picture of me just before I opened the restaurant, Worked in a factory, driving lift truck, was a union stewart,  I had more and longer hair, no gray and a much longer beard. Well I cut my hair shaved the beard off and opened the restaurant. No body in town recognized me, lol..
me in the late 80's
There ya go that was the place. I also had lunch specials, dinner specials, catered and did whatever the community wanted me to do. Not much free time and long hours before and after opening hours. After 10 years kinda wore my body out, But I survived and we are now living another dream full-time Rving avoiding as much of this cold winter weather as possible.

Now back to today

Pretty mild again and a foggy morning, for quite a while. I did get a couple of nice walkabouts the park. Then headed into Strathroy for a few items, still foggy at 9:30 am. But still very warm I was in shorts right from 7 am and continued this way all day long.

Heading into Strathroy
Then back home to enjoy a very nice warm day, some sunshine but temps into the low 80's F  (27C) loving this. A few more walkabouts, chat with a few people, Reading in the shade, enjoying the quiet times with my honey.
We discussed a few plans but nothing carved in stone yet.
A quiet Happy Hour today and then soon time to begin supper. I had picked up some fresh yellow lake perch in town, the first of the season, On sale for 1/2 price, Still expensive but so worth it for a nice feed of very tasty fish (still enough for another meal). Whipped up a salad, heated up our Fry Daddy, coated the Perch in Garlic and Butter Fish crisp. And about 3 minutes it was done to perfection.
what a very tasty treat.
Now here it is just about 8 Pm 70 F (21c) and still in shorts and t-shirt, really, really loving this weather.
Thanks for dropping on by and taking a peek, and hope y'all had a wonderful spring day as well.

    1. Thanks Ann, we still love the full-time lifestyle, glad you enjoy our meals. Salads I make fresh every day, lettuce, celery, carrots, fresh mushrooms, cucumber, tomato, ground flax, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, olives and Olive oil and balsamic vinegar for a dressing. So tasty and hits the spot.

    2. No wonder that salad looks so good! You've got everything but the kitchen sink in it! I've tried to figure it out, but never dreamed you had all that in it. Must be really good and good for you. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks, George Lucky Suzie, to have you cook for her. Ann M

  6. You looked pretty mean back then and hard to believe those low menu prices. Great that you got to live your dream.

    1. Larry, I was not really that mean, looks can be deceiving. These menu prices we just about in line back in the early '90's.
Now this is the life living in our rv.

  13. We love coming across those old mom and pop diners when we travel as the food always beats Denny's and such places. That menu must bring back wonderful memories for you! Our son always wanted to open a "Just Soup" restaurant in Victoria, BC where he would serve just soup and bread. No investors ("Bank of Dad") jumped up so it never happened.
