Leaving Why, Casino del Sol , Mission San Xavier and casino fun

Where are we today ?
clic a pic to enlarge it
Another wonderful morning here in Coyote Howls in Why AZ. After coffees and computing got a very nice walkabout this desert park that we really enjoy, sure gonna miss it until the next time and we will be back, the good lord willing and all that.
just me , my shadow and the quiet desert sunshine
and the views. love them
Just taking our time this morning no rush today only 118 miles to got for our stop for the night. Hopped on hwy 86 east towards Tucson just after 9 am and a couple of hours later we reached our destination.
East on 86 and wonderful back country hi way that we love
not one truck all the way.
many Saguaro cactus along the way as well
passed by Kitts peak would love to check it out
but too high in elevation for me
This is our plan for today Casino Del Sol in Tucson. The perfect location for us to hop in the car and check out the San Xavier Mission that we hoped to see on our way home this spring. Passed by it many times but now was the time.
Pulled into the Casino about 11:30 and could not believe all the rv's here! Wow this is busier some rv parks, but heck it is free, the  perfect location, and only for one night anyway.
we parked way at the back parking lot
but filled up later
After  luch I made quick trip into the casino, It is Huge!
nice long walk there
nicely landscaped
Back to the parking lot and chatted with another couple apparently most of these people spent their whole winter here in the parking lot! Sure looks like that too with some of their setups!
Now we headed on down the road to the Mission only 6 miles away. You can check out this site by clicking HERE  so much amazing history you need to go there to experience it.
We arrived in time for the 1:30 pm free tour so took advantage of it. The docent was very knowledgable and so much information .
Now from here a lot of amazing pictures of the Mission first founded in 1692 .
model of the mission
Church Mouse?
love the handles in the shape of a serpent
the handles n this door
cool children books
hand painted ornaments
Now we headed out to a few Indian vendors here selling fresh made Fry bread. which we have never had.
smelled good and made to order
for $3.00 we enjoyed a cinnamon fry bread
very light and very tasty
a nice snack
lots of vendors here selling these
Then checked out  the Indian arts and crafts, nothing we needed here.
Back home by 3 pm chatted with another neighbour then headed off to check out the casino. First stop as always picked up a Players card and we each got $10.00 free slot play. But before that we checked out the many restaurants here and decided on Mobys a 60's style diner. and the most reasonable one here.
We checked out the menus and we shared   a side salad, with fish and chips and some Coronas Just because we could .
love the decorations here 60's surf style

tasty salad
Haddock fish and chips yummy
left overs to take home too
tables in the shape of surf boards
Then we hit the slot machines with $10.00 each free slot play we enjoyed the penny slots for a while until I eventually cashed outwit $20.23 almost enough to pay for our supper and used their money to do it with .
Our day ended up pretty good, free campsite for the night and free tour at the mission, fun slot play and a tasty meal out total cost $14.00 including tips.  Sounds good to me. Now after a nice parking lot sunset, post this blog and enjoy a movie on tv, just because we can.
Heading on out in the morning again, had all the fun we wanted here slowly making our way east bound again. To relax a bit more again.
nice parking lot sunset
Thanks for taking the time to join us on our adventures,

  4. Loved the shadow shot in the desert.

That mission was something. It's on my list if I make it back next year. Beautiful colors. And with their own church mouse!

That casino parking lot is my favorite. Meet lots of nice people there and it has a lot of shade too.

    Travel safe.

  6. The last time I was at the Mission, I witnessed a tradition Indian wedding. It's my most favorite Mission of all and I go for more pictures every time I come here. I'm so glad you got to see it. Haven't stopped at the casino though. So you're familiar with solar panels ... do those portable ones that rig has sitting on the asphalt really give them enough electricity? And can you run your generator at a casino?? Just wondering.

    1. We are glad we made time for the visit this spring to is an amazing mission. The Indian wedding would have been interesting to see.
A lot pf people have the portable solar panels they seem to really help we like our on the roof no storage issues The portable panels are quite expensive though.
People do run their generators in the casinos, but no need to run it all day. The couple behind us just moved from another area where one rig ran their generators day and night. We seldom run ours with our solar, but like to exercise our genny every month or so.

  10. Our friends mentioned that mission when we were in Tucson, but we didn't go. Will have to do that next time for sure, looks wonderful. Also, Highway 86 is great, you are so right. We loved that route into Tucson. We had lunch at another casino a bit closer to Sahuarita, it was also huge, but I didn't see any rigs in the parking lot. Travel safe, George and Suzie

  11. My Tucson cousin is married to a Navajo who makes her fry bread into tacos, pizza crust, or sweet breakfast treats. We drove past the Mission once early morning and it was closed. Sure looks like a return trip is in order.

  12. Love visiting the mission, been there about three times now and every time I go there is some new art to discover. Hard to believe the age. Was in Yuma at the Cocopah Casino and the guy next to me ran his Generator 24 hours a day on the auto start. It would run at 10:30 then 1 in the morning then around 3 in the morning, even though the rules stated that no generators after 10. Some people just are not considerate of others. It was a high end coach probably with a residential fridge. People like that should not stay in places where there are no hookups.
