Where are we today ?
Watch the news , coffees and some computing no hurry we have about a 5 hour leisurely drive today.
We here ! |
not sure what these flowers are but nice to see |
Our site at Elephant Butte this morning before hitting the road |
Hatch New Mexico is the the Chili Capital of the World according to them and chili peppers everywhere! Don't need to buy any, Suzie don't care for hot stuff and I have enough hot stuff here to do me a while yet.
Chili Peppers everywhere, drying them on the roof |
This is a wonderful drive (the shortcut) to I-10 west next to no traffic. |
We are getting close, just past Texas Canyon AZ rest area, love these rocks, seem about ready to fall |
all set up enjoyed the afternoon sun temps about 80 f, love it ! |
wonderful hot afternoon in the shade and a great view |
Then I whipped over to the rv place close by (used to be Cates and Hill) but Betty finally retired and sold the business in January and is now renamed Elite Sales and Service, 670s Highway 80 Benson AZ 85602 phone number 520-586-3339. John is still there and very helpful. He has ordered the part for our step that broke the other day and should be in tomorrow. They have always treated us fair and can almost always get the parts we need very quickly. Best Rv parts supplier we have ever been to.
On the way back stopped at one of our favorite eating places on the road. Junction Express, they have the best Broasted Chicken next to Anna Mae's in Millbank Ontario. Another main reason we stop here.
This the place right in front of the campground |
oh yeah ! |
then outside our dining room window a wonderful Arizona sunset |
Todays journey 261 miles |
Glad that you dropped in for a visit and hope you had an awesome day as well.
Check out the interactive map below to see where we have been this Fall and Winter..
I have stayed at an RV park in Benson a few times when I passed through that way. I used to be a member of the Gold Prospectors Ass. of America and they held one of their many "outings" in Arizona and on our way to and from, we would stop at Benson. It was a nice park.
ReplyDeleteWe really enjoy the Benson area, could spend more time here but still want lower elevation for warmer winter temps.
DeleteFunny you arrived in AZ today just as we are leaving in the very early morning. We aren't too far apart tonight......next time :)
ReplyDeleteYes you never know. getting closer all the time.
DeleteWe love broasted chicken. How do you fix leftover chicken without getting soggy crust. Is it possible to reheat some way to keep it crispy?
ReplyDeleteHeat in the over on a cookie sheet 325f for 15-25 minutes.
DeleteI bet it felt good to cross the Arizona border. We're also happy when we make it through the low sandy desert of New Mexico. Sand can certainly cause damage to your vehicles and that's not to mention how bad zero visability can be.
ReplyDeleteI feels so good, now we can take it easy for the rest of the winter.
DeleteThat chicken looked yummy! Can you believe we haven't been to Benson yet? I know you will get plenty of relax time...enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWe have been to Benson every year at least once. Just something about this small town the we enjoy.
DeleteLots to do now if we want.
You are on very familiar grounds now. Getting a bit of an itch here...
ReplyDeleteJust love this part of the country, clear blue sunny skies, warm days and cool nights, perfect.
DeleteThat chicken looks delicious. About time you gave your Weber Q a day off! :c)
ReplyDeleteIt is so fresh, tender, crispy and juicy , perfect!
DeleteHave you toured Gammon's Gulch? The stretch from Deming to the border nearly always has winds. It must have been your lucky day.
ReplyDeleteWe did Gammon's Gulch in 2006, loved it.
DeleteWe had a bit of wind but no problem. One year we pulled off at Deming for the night because of high winds and visibility.
Glad you made it safely to the warm southwest. That chicken meal looks super good - you gotta splurge on occasion. As chile pepper fans we went to the Hatch festival several years ago while visiting in White Sands and I still can picture the peppers all over the roofs.
ReplyDeleteThe chicken was awesome as usual.
DeleteLove this area here. Would have liked to check out the chilis but no need to this time. Amazing the chili peppers everywhere there.
Sounds like you had a nice day for a drive. We are, also, slowly making our way to Arizona. Planning to be a little south of where you are now, in Huachuca City, by the 23rd. Continued safe travels. Maybe we will catch up at some point and we can meet in person.
ReplyDeleteCelebrating the Dance
It was a wonderful day. Huachuca City is not that far from here, close to Sierra Vista. Maybe catch up there or further down the road.
DeleteSave travels.
I don't like that zero visibility sign. Makes me very nervous.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed Benso also. They have a very nice Escapees park.
We are just up the road from that park, actually going to there next week.
DeleteWelcome to AZ. We're having some wind up this way but I'm hoping you have nothing but sunshine for your visit.
ReplyDeleteSo far so good here, we hanging around AZ most of the winter so will most likely experience some wind, thats just part of what happens here.
DeleteWe do like Benson and the area around it. But it can be quite a bit cooler there than the low desert, as you well point out.
ReplyDeleteIt can be cooler at times, but we take the good with the bad, still love it here, much nicer than Ontario at this time of year.
