Goodbye Roadrunner, and hello Texas.

Where are we today ?
clic a pic to enlarge it
What a wonderful quiet nights sleep we had at this wonder rest area. A nice walkabout this morning and caught a sunrise over the mountains by Las Cruses NM. And the Roadrunner outside our front window watched over us all night.
love this roadrunner here, it is amazing
a wonderful sunrise this morning
No rush to head out, no need to  head through El Paso in the early morning rush hour. Only 50 miles away. So we headed on out at 8 am and sailed right through El Paso with no slow downs and maintaining 55 mph until we reached the Flying J at the east end of town to fuel our coach. Best price so far this spring only $2:00 a gallon, love it ! And as I thought much better gas mileage with yesterday's tail winds, a 10% improvement, love these tail winds.
traffic moved great through El Paso, much better than years ago
I-10 just goes on forever and I am sure we have travelled every mile
of it over the years , coast to coast.
Now continued on I-10 past the rest areas we are familiar with. Have stopped or stayed overnight at most of these Texas rest areas, really like them. We crossed in to the central time Zone loosing an hour and stopped at the Van Horn rest area for lunch. Waved at our friends Paul and Judy who are staying at a campground in Van Horn. (did you see us guys?).
Next heading east on I-20 to the Ward county rest area in Mohahan Texas.  A very nice rest area/tornado shelter with free wifi , Bonus! Got here at 2:30 pm enough for today. Time to shut it down.
no we don't travel the speed limit
here 10 and 20 meet 20 it is this time
East on I- 20 past all these oil fields and and pumpers, such a busy area doing whatever they do here.
see these everywhere
Got to the Ward county rest area in Monahan Texas.  A very nice rest area/tornado shelter with free wifi , Bonus! Have been here quite a few times a great place to relax.
lotsa trucks but we are far aways from them
Now to relax here for a while and walkabout this wonderful large rest area, enjoying this 75f sunny weather, it was soon time to whip up supper.
Scanned the tv stations not much here , no problem hooked our Dvd player , we have lots of movies to watch later.
nice walking paths around and play area for the kids
couple of secure Tornado  buildings, nice to know
fun stuff inside
vending machines too
that is one huge tractor and trailer
nice quiet spot we have
For supper tonight, reheat the rest of our chicken pot pie from yesterday add to a salad and sure did the trick.
very good reheated too
that was it for a tasty supper
Dishes done and we even got a very nice sunset tonight right here in the rest area. Perfect way to wind up a good travel day. Now to kick back and enjoy a movie.
not to shabby for a rest area overnight
283 miles today
We had avery nice easy travel day following I-10 to I-20 and stop at a wonderful rest area for the night. Not really scenic but we made good time.
Thanks for dropping on by for a peek and really hope you had an awesome day as well.

  6. Moving right along .... LOVE the roadrunner!! Lucky for me, I've never spent the night at a truck stop. I'm afraid I'd be up all night long from the noise.

    1. That Roadrunner is amazing.
We find most of these rest areas are pretty quiet. and we have been roving long enough that a bit of outside noise. Don't much like truck stops though.

  7. If you are not pulling a rig you gotta love the 80 miles speed signs and the wide open roads in Texas. That is the nice thing about traveling in the USA, you can stop almost anywhere you like to stay overnight.

  11. Beautiful sunrise! That visitor center is simply amazing. What is that thing that looks like video games with the two seats in front of it? I do like the ones with tornado shelters built in, hope you never have to use it, but nice to know it's there! That's cute that it has a playground for the kids, can imagine the parents letting them play and then trying to move on..kids never wanting to leave! Travel safe.

    1. Thanks guys it was wonderful. Love this rest area. That thing is actually some interesting videos not games. The tornado shelters are a nice security item when travelling for sure. There was a few kids got out a played a bit then back in the car and on the road again, helping them burn off some excess energy.
