Bloggerfest Survey Question, and a very windy desert day !

Where are we today ?
Pilot Knob Resort Winterhaven California

A reminder about Bloggerfest this coming January 23rd. The poster is below feel free to copy and post it on your Blogs, facebook  or emails as well so the word gets out and to remind any people in the area that wish to come out for three hours of socializing and meeting some other bloggers and Rv'ers.
I have had a request and mention that we bring in a Porta Potti for the day and finally have approval from BLM office in Yuma that we may do so. The cost could be about $85.00 for the day. And to pay for this I thought about having a raffle or donation bucket and a draw so that any left over money, hopefully there will be some, can go to the winner of the draw.  I would appreciate your thoughts and feedback on this please.
I will find a location maybe on Plomosa road (10 Miles north of Main st. in Quartzsite just off 95.) a couple of days before then and let you all know exactly where at that time.  It is a free 14 day dry camping area so feel free to bring your rigs and stay a while if you like.

Now for an update for today
Last night's full moon
The predicted winds today are here as promised, north winds about 35 mph with gusts as high a 50 mph. Now any one who has been in the desert knows what this means, blowing sand, and dust with visibility close to zero at times.
Outside first thing and found our 2 small folding tables had blown over and the 2 Santa hats on our mirrors are "Gone With the Wind". A walkabout later retrieved one of them against the fence at the south side of the resort, the other is still (MIA) missing in action, if it got over the fence could be in Mexico by now? Also saw along the fence line some chairs, tire covers and patio mats there as well.
It was windy enough that we pulled in our slide as well, less wind noise and and draughts for most of the day
We had planned to go to the Arizona Marketplace today (huge Flea Market), but really not a great day to be out and about, that market is pretty open and can be breezy even with a light wind, maybe tomorrow. So today a few windy walkabouts, some computing and reading. And found a movie on TV there is a super hero marathon on tv and a perfect day to watch it, The Avengers. We don't watch a lot of Tv but the timing was perfect, prefer to be outside walking and reading, but was difficult to much of either with the wind and dust.
hot tub has a lots of dust in it today
can barely see Pilot Knob
no sunset that we can see tonight
Our coach was clean, but pretty dusty now
inside and out
Movie done by 4 pm another walkabout and whip up supper. Inside of course  much to windy and dusty for the Weber Q today. An easy Chicken Pilaf done in one pan so quick and tasty. Kinda like a Hamburger helper meal, but not a packaged meal, much healthier and less sodium.
everything ready to add to the pan after
sauteing the chicken
This is quick and easy one pan meal. 5 minutes prep and 10-15 minutes to cook all done in one pan. and so very tasty.
quick easy and tasty
added a bit of our Macaroni salad from yesterday
and still have leftovers, yummy.
Now we have another interesting dusty desert day, but still the sun was shining through the dust and really not too cold. Can't be perfect everyday now can it ? That would get boring right?
Thanks again for stopping by and enjoying the desert dust with us too. Still beats the cold and snow that will happen up north sometime.

Check out the interactive map below to see where we have been this Fall and Winter..

  1. That's the problem with the southern U.S...you never know what kind of winter weather you're going to get. Good thing you've got a positive attitude. We were lucky last year, so we're quite happy not to be pushing our luck two years in a row.

I think I just saw your Santa hat floating by here...

    2. Just read in the news that Toronto had a warmer Christmas than Vancouver this year. Still, I prefer Mexico...
      Dinner looks great!

    3. Toronto getting much colder now, and we have found Mexico more expensive for us, to get far enough south, We still enjoy southern Arizona.

  2. For the porta-potties, wouldn't people come in their campers?

    1. Read the next comment there not everyone brought their rigs. Or were parked further away. And was over 50 people last yeat

  3. We had as many folks come in their ground transportation as any other means... last year.. The actual meeting site was away from the camper circle by about a half a mile... just inside the gate off of the road so folks could find us... I would think we could take up a collection to cover the cost...

    1. That's what I have heard we did not make it there last year due to a family emergency, Don't think it would hurt to have one there.

  4. The dust that coats the coach inside is my one complaint about traveling the West. I like those one pan meals and this looks like a good one.

    1. The dust is a nuisance but we do s steam clean once a year anyway so may as well make it worthwhile. And we do have a vacuum.
The one pan meals are so quick, easy, versatile and tasty. For a change from the BBQ.

  5. We've been in Q when the winds were so bad we had to pull the slides in and face into the wind. Then, we've been there when it was gorgeous.

Not sure why a porta potti is needed for the short event. Why not just move it to La Posa South if you feel one is necessary? Porta pottis are already there.

    1. I had thought of that too, we will be camped there anyway, I like your support.
Anyone can bring their rig in for a day without a permit. This would make it much simpler. And we want to keep it simple.

  6. Seems like a lot of money just to take an emergency squat. Wouldn't behind a cactus work just as well, after all we're supposed to be roughing it LOL
I'm looking forward to the blog fest and getting to see you guys.

    1. I agree with Wanderin's comment La Posa south would be easier, it's an LTVA and we will be there anyway, $40.00 permit for 2 weeks and Porta Pottis are there.
Looking forward to seeing you guys again too.

    1. Not crazy about the dust, but not too often we normally get it here.

  8. George, we are driving our car from Yuma and would really like to have the porta-potty. As I told you before, I am happy to contribute toward the cost. And to answer the comment above about the cactus, NO it would not be as good. Yes we could ask one of the campers to use teirs, but neither of us would feel good about that.

    1. I think La Posa south would work too, they have the porta potti there, and NO to the cactus.

    1. Thats a thought too, I will check it out when we return to Quartzsite.

  11. I vote for La Posa south. There are a lot of restrictions at the city park if I remember correctly. I know Jeri checked into it for last year.

  12. Good luck with the gathering. We won't be there but the idea of bringing a porta-potty seems reasonable.

  14. I vote for La Posa South. Even if we can't get a LARGE area for our rigs and cars and meeting place right near the porta potties, we could pick a place out a little and drive our vehicles to them if needed. I was thinking that people coming in their cars and driving a bit of a distance could stop in town (or stop at one of the porta potties at South La Posa) on their way into the event if it's held elsewhere. And it's not a long event. But a small donation can be made if you decide we need one. :)

    1. Thanks Barbara for your input too. No donation needed here if we can just hang our for a few hours and meet everyone.
That's my thoughts too, it will be a wait and see but am sure it will all work out, no problem.
      Hope to meet you there.

  15. Contact cards, what are they??? I'd like to come, would prefer a free 14 day site and I'd be happy to contribute to the porta potty fund, even though I'd have my own there. Not sure if I'll come if I have to pay $40, unless I could come free just for the day. Thanks for putting this thing together! It already sounds like a huge headache, LOL.

    1. Janis, contact cards , business cards, we print our own with your contact information etc,, Name, email address, blog URL maybe a picture of yourself.
La Posa south you only need a permit to camp overnight no fee to pay to come in for the day.
No headache just pick a spot and people will come, and La Posa south it will be.

    2. Thanks! I see La Posa South there's a $10 day use fee, BTW. Maybe they don't enforce it.

    3. Janis that $10.00 day use fee is for the summer months only.
We will be there and we can have visitors no charge for the day.
The $40.00 for 2 weeks is for the winter months and is for overnight stays.

  16. I think the portable pot is a great idea.

We have been there when the wind was terrible and the slides were pulled in. Not a fun time

    1. Working on that issue, think La Posa south would work too, no rental fee.
We make due with the wind usually goes away soon.
