Wed. Jan. 4th Hangin out in the Desert.

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

 Where are we Today ?

We are in the desert here by Borrego Springs, free BLM camping, friendly people, blue skies, lotsa sunshine and it is so quiet. no light pollution and no traffic ( oh did I say its free!). Maybe the odd motorcycle on the highway during the day that's about it.  We kinda like it here and decided to stay another day,(maybe more who knows?) So puttered around a bit, set up our satellite dish for tv, fixed our cupboard that collapsed yesterday after a few bumps we went over too fast on the way here.

Had coffees and compute for a while this morning then a quick trip to town for a few groceries. Love the small towns population about 3,500 suits us just fine! Then back home first pic is our area where we are parked next to the hills.
rv's in the distance

Suzie relaxing with a book
Well here we are relaxing in the peace and quiet and can you belive it a FEDEX truck pulls in and asked us if we know ????.  Nope we don't he calls a cell phone and out comes a camper looking for him. Ok thats cool. Gotta remember there is only about a dozen or so rv's here in the middle of nowhere.

Then an hour or so later a UPS truck pulls in and finds another rver here! Like I said we are not in campgrounds, free desert camping and couriers are making deliveries here in the desert, the tiny village of Borrego Springs is 5 miles away and Salton City 28 miles, how do they find these places?
UPS
Reading for a while, sun, shade, sun shade about 85 f soo nice, then another walkabout. We found a monument for Peg Leg Smith, A prospector in this area from 1801 to 1866 quite an interesting story.

As the day progressed and the sun began to begin to set behind the mountains if cooled a bit then I fired up our Weber grill for some potatoes in foil with onions, broccoli and juicy tender pork chops.
sun going down
sun setting looking east
sunset looking west
Now supper is done and we are inside enjoying a nice feast.
yummy
Dark skies again 3/4 moon and lotsa stars in the sky, we are relaxing inside, a couple windows open, read for a while, compute and a bit of a tv show to lull me to sleep.

Thanks for stopping by and joining our day in the desert.

  6. Looks like a nice place to spend a few more days at. Was surprised about the UPS and Fed Ex deliveries. You and Suzie know how to eat well, you do a good job of making me hungry! Have a great week.

Yep "free" is the magic word!
    And Couriers was really cool!

    Allen and Lolita:

Yeah the couriers was cool, and just because we are rving why can't we eat well (maybe too well) but that's what I do, cook!

    TnT:
The cupboard was a mess but we fixed it. The "topes" (Mexican speed bumps") were worse than in Mexico!
Pork chops on the weber are amazing, of course I love cooking can't you tell ?

  9. We know exactly where you are. A few years back we were in California (sans RV) and took a drive up to Anza Borrego and found the Peg Leg monument. There were several boondockers there at that time as well. They almost all came from BC. Who knows, we may be there one day, too!
