The weather came as predicted, so we hunker down and make the best of it. And take a few minutes to back up my Blog.

Where are we today ?

      Rained off and on overnight and was 38F at 5 am. Overcast and cloudy all day as the temperature is dropping. So this morning I started a large pot of Hurst's Ham Been soup about 8 am boiling with the hambone from last nights supper. A good day for homemade soup.

          While this was simmering away I whipped in to New Hamburg for a few items, before the freezing rain starts. And I guess everyone else thought the same. The large No Frills grocery store there at 8:30 this morning, almost every cashier open and 3-4 overfull carts at each one, and everyone talking about the ice storm coming. It took a while but I was in no hurry.

     Back home by 10 to finish off the soup and decided while I was in the kitchen anyway may as well bake a package of cinnamon rolls to nibble on and share, quite tasty they were. We enjoyed a bowl of soup for lunch and a tasty warm cinnamon bun, then home for the afternoon.

    I picked up these to try when we were in Ohio and made a very tasty snack for a very good price.

      By 11 am the freezing rain had begun and while looking out the Kitchen window Suzie and Dennis saw a  large tree branch fall onto the roof of one of their sheds. Their clothes line is attached to that tree as well so they whipped outside to take the clothes line down , at least no laundry on it.

            Now because of the freezing rain, sleet and 25 mph winds hitting the drivers side of our coach we decided to pull in the slide, this makes our coach warmer, less drafts around the open slide, and helps to prevent the freezing of the water lines that go out there for our kitchen. The temperature around -3 C (26F) with a wind chill -11 C (12F) not nice out there, no problem we are toasty inside.

      Soon time for supper, so I preheat the oven (for extra heat)  and baked a couple of chicken cordon Blue that I picked up in Ohio. Simple, easy and tasty, to go with our salad tonight.

         The chicken done in the oven for about 40 minutes and sure did the trick tonight.

            Then about 6:30 I bundle up and walked down the road a bit, snow plow had been by earlier but the roads were still not great, Some snow on the roads and ice under as well, Sure glad we don;t need to be driving anywhere today.

    There ya go in wonderful Ontario Canada, spring day (not !) but it is what it is just never know what kinda weather we will get at this time of year. We have bean pretty lucky most years bit guess the cards are not on out favor this year. Soon summer and the heat waves will be upon us yeah !

Where have we been this summer?

Reminiscing around town with a perfect spring day.

          Just another wonderful sunny day here sure do love it! Got an early morning walkabout most of the town, couple miles in. So nice and peaceful here at 7:30 am.Just checking out some of the houses I have owned in town . Three of them since 1982. The first one below was a very tiny place on a double lot in 1982 the price was right and worked out perfect at the time. It has been added on to and the lots severed . The original was 750 square feet now 2,700 square feet. it is very large!

          Then a few years later sold that and moved to this wonderful old brick home across the street. It was wonderful and so much character, for a few years.

        Then bought this house in 1992 around the corner with Suzie, needed fixing up and  I did most of the reno's over the next 15 years. I had a dream to make the perfect house for us and we did!

        But then we got the itch to go fulltime so in 2006 we sold this house, made our retirement money and hit the road fulltime.

       The walkabout town this morning was wonderful chatted with a few people, then home to hangout with Suzie and putter around some more.
       Outside enjoying this amazing weather, short's t shirt, sandals fresh air and exercise. Hopping to use John's truck when it's available maybe tomorrow to clean up the piles of brush from the yard to the burn pile.
        But we did get some very nice quality reading time together, in the shade (too hot in the sun, can you believe IT?)

        Then as usual Suzie lets me whip up supper, tonight Shrimp kabobs on the Weber Q,  add to our tasty salad. The Kabobs sprayed with olive oil and garlic only takes a few miniute and so tasty.

     What can I say, amazing weather, amazing company (Suzie), good books, taking it easy and enjoying life. Does it get much better? Think not!

Yup a tiny bit of snow, high winds and overcast most of the day, but was strill able to BBQ supper.

           Must be adjusting to the time zone, actually slept until 5:30 this morning, thats about my normal wake up time. Well the weather gods were pretty well right on with their predictions, below freezing this morning and began to snow at 7 am on my first walkabout. Very dark stormy skies and winds 25mph plus.  So we did a bit of discussing where we going from here on Monday, but still nothing written in stone, lots of options.

          Then a quick trip to Edgewood NM for a few groceries, only light snow but high winds, glad we were not in the coach travelling today. 
           A bite for lunch and another walkabout, stopped at the library here in the park and exchanged a couple dvds. Then watched another action Movie this afternoon. Returned it and got another for our library. Done by 3 pm and the sun came out, nice blue skies and still a bit windy only 40f. The sun was nice though.

          For supper I thawed out a pork loin roast and was going to do it in the oven. But by 3:30 blues skies and the wind died down. So I preheated up our Weber Q and set the roast on to grill about 4 pm was done shortly after 5 and even grilled a cored apple with cinnamon. Got to finish another book while the roast was cooking. And again a tasty salad we had another wonderful  meal. Lotsa leftovers for Suzie's lunch sandwiches.

           Another trip outside for the garbage, post the blog and watch a tiny bit of tv.

          Always something for us to do, the next few days promise to be clear skies, less wind and sunny, temps in high 50s maybe more, will be awesome.

Leaving Texas and on to New Mexico today, was a pretty good travel day.

Where are we today ?

Deming New Mexico

         Had a great nights sleep last night, it's nice to have electricity and a full tank of propane, especially in this very cold weather. About 18 f (-8c) last night. Up early as usual and eventually the sun came up, no wind and great for a walkabout the park without 5 layers of clothes, mitts and my wool hat.

       Even walked over to the municipal airport next to the campground and watch them prep this large chopper for take off. Not sure what its called, but its huge!

       About 9:30 we decided to hit the road. Got a text from our friends John and Barb at 8:30 they were back on the road. They were stranded on I-20 about 40 miles west of here on the side of the road since noon yesterday, black ice and many accidents.

      Eventually on I-10 and by the time we got past Van horn its getting nicer, sunny and much warmer. But now its windy, ok we can deal with that for a while about a 30 mph head wind. Stopped at a couple rest areas to stretch and have tuna sandwich for lunch. Through El Paso to the Flying J in Anthony Texas, fuel up and get some water for our fresh water tank, now we good to go.

Welcome to New Mexico,

      We arrived at Camp Walmart in Deming New Mexico at 3:30 pm. Sunny and much warmer 51f, wow we loving this. We had enough driving for the day, even though the local time now is 2:30 pm. What 's the rush?
       A walkabout the parking lot and store then back home. This familiar looking RV and tow dolly pull in beside us. Hey thats the couple that were close to us in Midland Texas for three cold blistery days!
       Well had to chat with them for a bit. Ends up they spent the night on the side of I-20 parked right behind our friends John and Barb. Is it a small world our what? Their names are Freddie and Skip from Iowa and they spend the winters in Benson Arizona. Same town as me, Suzie , John and Barb are going to for a week. Different campground but still a small town.

         All this fun stuff done we get to have supper, and what tasty easy meal, the rest of our hamburger stew I made the other day while stranded in Midland Texas, add some fresh french bread and we are good to go. Down the road to Benson Arizona in the morning.

Good bye Midland Texas, lets hit the road! Not too far though....

Where are we today ?

TRA  Escapees rv Park, Pecos Texas

        Hey we got up early as usual and it was cold! How cold was it? 16 f with a wind chill factor that made in 8f.  Now overnight our water pump quit, yep frozen solid. We even had our furnace running and a light bulb by the water pump. Nope we frozen. 

       Not a real problem cause we have water inside and we have heat. Friends of ours John and Barb were heading this way and got stopped about 40 miles east of us and spent the night at a campground.

       This morning they were headed west like us but about two hours ahead of our comfort zone in this weather.  Ok, road is looking good and we can get outta here, Walmart camping is ok for one night but we have been here for three nights lets move on down the road. Besides, we needed fuel and propane. 

       But we have a bit of and issue, our TV antenna will not stow in the lowered position. I climbed the ladder to our roof and we have one inch of ice there. Sorry not going on that roof. Hmm what to do? Our ladder is to short, so into Walmart and think about this. 

        I ran into to some Midland firefighters buying groceries and discussed our problem. Easy fix he suggests get some ice melter or softener salt and throw of the roof. Well scoured the store and finally asked a helpful employee. Sorry sold out of ice melter, rock salt, softener salt and ice scrapers. A nice lady suggested table salt, hey thanks! Picked a couple pound of that and back to our coach.

        Moved our coach over a bit and in this blustery cold wind poured a whole box around the antenna base. Did not work right away so we fuelled up our coach and head on down the road, antenna hanging off the roof.

        Now we are on I-20 moving right along. Road not too bad and no traffic at all. Just before we got to Pecos TX  got a  message from our friends. They are on the side on the interstate, parked. black ice, no where to go. Suggest we stop at Pecos for the night.
         So only 90 miles down the road we pull into Pecos, fuel up at the Flying J. again. They have no propane=sold out. Down the road found a place topped up out propane tank and ready to go. Tiny Walmart here and no Rv parking at the Flying J so found a TRA rv park  with one site left. Quickly we grabbed it and got set up.

        Now we have electric but no water, pipes in the campground frozen. Our antenna has now been stowed and thawed out our water pump. We happy, we comfy and we toasty warm. Ok we paid $28.00 for the night but we have had free camping so far all winter and its only for one night, we hope.

       Checked in at the office and they have a huge book exchange. Suzie in her glory, found 5 new books and we traded 5 of our used ones, great deal.

          Now a great travel day we had only 90 miles but and new place and cozy and warm. Relax for a bit and reheat the rest of our chicken and taters, add some mixed veggie and garlic bread. What more can we ask for? Maybe warmer weather but that will happen eventually.

       Hey thank ya'll for riding on down the road with us, not far, but new place, new faces and new experiences. By the way The staff in this campground are so friendly we almost want to stay here longer. But we have a plan, I think. Not much here to see anyway+too cold.
