Longhorn Traffic Jam!

Where are we today ?
clic a pic to enlarge it
This weather is exactly why we are here in this area. Mind you we love these New Mexico State Parks as well. After my early morning walkabout at 7 am, I headed into town (Deming) about 9 am for a few supplies and on the way, (mind you back country roads) I had a traffic jam ! This area has free range cattle and this highway was the place to be. Of course when you are in these areas the cattle do have the right of way. So I stopped, and they did not move.  I watch for a few minutes and they did not move. I blew the horn and they did not move?
Again I blew the horn for quite a while , they looked at me and finally took their time to clear the road, at least so that I could drive on down and eventually into town.  Always an interesting experience that we have encountered  a few times over the years, Just the way it is here in the southwest, love it !
these guys are impressive to see
especially on the road
don't rush we are not in a hurry
whatcha looking' at?
love seeing these guys here
Of course this was after my walkabout at 7 am so peaceful and quiet here real loving it !  Out in the desert and enjoying the wide open spaces.
down by the visitor centre and back again
almost a mile.
we are nestled in there so comfy
On the way into Deming passed these Pecan Orchards getting ready to harvest.
Got our stuff and back home. No more places we need to go today= perfect ! Chat with a couple of new neighbours for a bit , another walkabout or 2 enjoyed light tasty lunch and this 84F (28c) weather . Relaxed in the shade of the bonus pavilion  beside us with nice light breeze enjoying our e-readers in the shade.
perfect view and weather
saw this bug walk by, the size of my thumb,
not sure what it was,
glad it left us alon

Shortly after 3 pm  our new friends Len and Brenda stopped by for "Happy Hour"  Always nice to see them and this is their last day here, They are heading on down the road in the morning. We said our see ya' laters and will no doubt hook up down the road at some point.
Brenda and Len Happy faces as always
Soon time to fire up our Weber Q 100, Preheat for 15 minutes while I prepped a small salad to go with our burgers tonight . In the meantime we  got to enjoy another very nice sunset. Not great but better than none.
salmon burger for Suzie on the left
Chriozo  Burger for me on the right
oh so tasty
We are doing what we love following the sun, seeing new places, meeting new friends and enjoying  the southwest.
Thank y'all for stopping by and hope you had a wonderful day as well.

PS::: Len thanks for the blog title today!

    2. Hey George,
Most ranchers blow their truck's horns when they come out to feed them, so I think you were sending the cows the wrong signals. :O)

  2. The views where you are, are wonderful. Wouldn't mind a traffic jam that included a couple of Longhorns. The clouds did turn a lovely pink.

  5. New Mexico looks lively right now, all that blue sky and open spaces. We are settling into our new home and really looking forward to getting south to the desert in late January. It has been way too long! Great photos today, George.

  6. If you just move slowly through, they'll get out of your way. Bob is right ... they were looking at you wondering why you were honking when they were already THERE!! That's a nice looking group of longhorns.

    1. It was a nice look group. I was within a foot and they did not move, guess I was invading their space.

  9. Looking at all that beef-on-the-hoof I was thinking a burger on the Weber would be a nice way to top it off. The cattle look mellow enough in the pictures, but don't think I'd want to get too close to one.

    1. We actually did have burgers on our Weber Q, but one was salmon and the other pork chirozo.
I believe these were all cows and calves, not very aggressive compared to a bull.

  10. Were you going to Town for milk. If any of them were Cows you could have saved the trip.
