I think this is the first day of spring...

Thanks for joining us on our journey of North America
in our Holiday Rambler, since August 2006

Where are we today ?

Well today is just more nice weather. First day of spring, or was that yesterday? It's a good day anyway. Sunshine, no wind and nice warm temperatures, yep we like it. Coffees, computing and walkabouts the standard stuff just enjoying what we have.

Again no plans, kinda hang out, vacuum, dust, do laundry, putter about and enjoy the day. Our neighbor had told us about a nice German restaurant not too far from here so we checked out their website here Zur Autobahn restaurant. Looks pretty good, a small place, good home cooked  German food but we found it a little pricey so decided not to go. The interesting thing that was noted on their menus was, they are in a "dry county" but you are more than welcome to bring your own beer or wine (they charge you a dollar for a glass). Sounds kinda cool, that would never happen in Canada for sure.

So the plan for today carried on, the laundry was done by the nice efficient machines (four bucks for two loads, wash and dry) as I read my book and Suzie cleaned the house while I was gone, she does and amazing job by the way too! Hardly recognized the place when I got home.

Walking back with the laundry this turtle was heading my way too, but was too shy for me to take his (or her) picture. Must have been doing their laundry too.

Now chores done and a nice, mostly sunny day. Great to get our chairs out and enjoy some more reading. In case you have not noticed we like to read. Blue skies and a few fluffy clouds, temperatures a nice comfortable 75f.

Another day to cook outside, so today's craving is chicken wings and home made fries. Plug in the Fry Daddy, fire up the Weber Q100 and away we go, I'm a cookin again.

Chopped up some celery and carrot sticks, fresh mushrooms and a couple pieces of broccoli to go along with some dips and hot sauce we had very tasty supper.
yep it was good !
Saved a pile of money by not eating out and had a fantastic day. Not sure, but does it get any better than this ??? Don't think so.

Thanks once again for stopping by, we had a great day, hope you did too.

  1. About the "dry county" thing. Sometimes comes as a surprise.
We actually do have at least one place in Canada where they do this.
    Here's the story:
A few years back, we were in Montreal with another couple, whose son was studying there, and thought we'd pick up some wine at some point to ultimately take back to one of our rooms.
They wanted to wait, since you could also buy wine in a corner store, but that's usually more expensive. (no LCBO in Quebec, thankfully) So I managed to persuade everyone that we should get the wine first, so we bought two or three bottles, and then discovered that the restaurant we ended up in didn't have a license to serve booze. So we drank our own wine!
It was awesome! It was a very nice little pasta place that ultimately got very, very busy so I'm glad I won the "let's eat now" argument too. Sometimes I get hungry and won't take no for an answer.
I think it might have been the regulars who would come in, get their table, place their order and then nip out for a few minutes and come back with whatever it was they were going to drink with their meal.
And this place didn't charge a buck for the use of a glass either.
Of course, remembering where this restaurant was other than in Montreal, is pretty much impossible.
So it does "happen in Canada", but certainly not in too many places.
I wish it were more common, since quite often wine that one orders in a restaurant can end up being a big disappointment. I don't necessarily mind paying for it, just don't serve me crap.

  2. Many restaurants we have been to do not have a Liquer License and serve great food. As time passes they will get their License only to give up on the quality of their food.

We struggled with temps in the low 80's yesterday, supposed to be the same today.

    It's about time.
