Wed. June 30th Buckhorn

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

As I am writing this on July 1st and you may be reading it today so I can wish y'all Happy Canada Day!

Overnight was quite cool about 10c (50f) and the day time temps only to about  18c (66f) with a strong cold wind, for the last day of June. But the weekend is supposed to be much warmer. I went to Buckhorn for a some supplies and chatted with a few neighbours in the morning.

It was still cool so we did a bit of research and computing for a while. Suzie came across this article of a restaurant in Waterloo celebrating 80 years as a family business. Harmony Lunch is like a step back in time with their famous pork burger piled with fried onions. My first time there was over 40 years ago and still love the taste that never changes. Gotta go back there again soon, and remember to take cash.
A step back in time
After lunch we did a walkabout the resort and again chatted with a few people that we have not seen since last year. With walking and chatting the afternoon away it was time for supper and I put together one of our favourites, chicken wings, fries with veggies and dip. Then relax with a book for a while and a movie on a chilly night.
Campground map
This is a map of the campground with Sherwood Forest to the left (lotsa bugs there in the forest), Upper Canada in the middle (we like this area no bugs here, lotsa sunshine) and to the right is the Plains which is more open and flat. Then we have the inviting pool but still much to cool for most of us.

"On The Road Again"
This morning was cool and quite windy, so much so that I actually had to wear sweat pants and socks while packing up outside our rig. Time to head out to Galvin Bay Resort  in the Kawarthas near Buckhorn Ontario. Leaving the farm at 10:00am we stopped at Milton for gas .97.9 cents a litre ($3.78 US per gallon) and lunch, then east thru Toronto arriving at the resort about 2:00 pm. We set up on a nice site, chatted with a few friends we have not seen since last year, relaxed outside for a bit outside and read then a nice supper of a hot chicken sandwich, homefried potatoes and mixed veggies, one on Mom's yummy butter tarts for desert then watch a movie on a very chilly evening.

We are settled in here for 2 weeks to make it thru the Canada Day Holiday celebrations, July 1st and the beginning of summer vacation for the school kids.

Mon. June 28th New Hamburg

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

Mom's not having a birthday today, but my sister and brother and their spouses thought we would get together at Mom's and celebrate 83 years of non birthdays, or at least have an excuse to get together. With a nice lunch, desert and social time together everyone had a great time.

After this we picked up a few things then a nice country drive home and a delicious roast beef dinner, baked potato, veggies, salad then mom's butter tarts for desert, yummy. Then we sat oustide with Sandy for a while until about 9:00pm when it was really getting kinda chilly. Soon to bed then in the morning pack up and travel about 4 hours to Galvin Bay Resort near Buckhorn Ontario for a couple of week.

It was a humid and warm morning, a few things to do today. Sandy was preparing a couple of chickens with potatoes, veggies for lunch today. To celebrate Suzie's mother's 76 th birthday. About 15 of us here, we enjoyed the celebration, meal with cake and ice cream for her birthday.

Her mother doing quite well after having her gal bladder removed on wednesday.

Following this we sat outside and read for a while with Omer relaxing as well after all the excitement.
The skies got real dark, and there was a tornado watch for a while. At one point we looked across the fields and could see a wall of heavy rain coming towards us, so a quick move inside while the pounding rain and high winds passed by. Then back outside to enjoy the fresh air and watch the ducks from the creek wandering for the first time by the milk house.
This was followed by a nice huge bowl of fresh popped popcorn for supper.

Sat. June 27th New Hamburg

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

Warm today but cloudy and drizzly for the first half, but still not too bad. The morning was a soccer game for our oldest grandson in the rain, always fun and they won again. Back home for lunch then some grocery shopping.

After noon we went to a 50th anniversary open house in Plattsville. This is the parents of a friend and ex employee that worked for me at my restaurant in the early 1990's. She now lives in Saskatchewan and made the trip home for the open house. Her parents and relatives were regular customers a few times a week for the 10 years I was in business. The open house had hundreds of people there coming and going all day, it was nice to see so many familiar faces and chat with these people again.

Then back home to relax for a bit and BBQ pork chops, with rice and tomatoes and cucumbers for supper, and enjoy another evening sunset.

Sunny and warm today and barely any wind, very nice. Coffee and blogging in the morning. After I posted the it I looked at the link to Zellers, where we had bought our fantastic blue chairs. And found out that they were on sale today, I was one day early.
So I called the store and asked their policy on this. " bring in your receipt and we will credit your account". Well I had the time and went for the short drive to get the $20.00 credit, which I in turn spent in their store anyway. While I was gone the ladies got about 6 flats of fresh strawberries and were cleaning them at the kitchen table for making jam, freezing and just plain eating.

Back home, we have bit of lunch then I can finish cutting the grass on this fun tractor and enjoyed the sunshine. After this I washed our coach and car, just because it was such a wonderful day. And even had time to read in the shade for while as well.

Then supper tonight was a very tasty and easy chore, just heat up left over pigtails, ribs, sausage, ham, potatoes, veggies and a cold salad. Then relax at our campsite for while enjoying the sunset.

      Thanks for stopping by.

Nice and sunny again but a cool north wind most of the day. After my morning coffee I headed to Kitchener in search of 2 new lawn chairs that I was told were available at Zellers, for the exact ones that we wanted. After searching 3 stores in town I found the last 2 blue ones in stock. A high backed lawn chair with a reclining backrest, very comfortable.
our new blue chairs
Once the chair project was accomplished I called ma and dropped by for a coffee, did a minor repair to her front porch and trimmed a couple of trees in the back yard, a nice visit.

Back home to begin preparing our supper of BBQ'd spare ribs and pigtails with mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, carrots and a salad for supper, a special treat for us. While the tails were simmering Sandy and I ran to town for a few items and pick up the new tire for the lawn tractor so I can get back at it on friday. Then after supper we sat at our campsite for a bit watching the sunset and giving Omer a few treats.

Wed. June 23rd New Hamburg

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

Another hot humid day, my kind of weather. Suzie's mother had her gallbladder removed this morning at the Stratford General hospital and all went well, she is now at home recuperating. I did some puttering around and ran a few errands in the morning. After lunch I thought I would cut some grass on the, zero turn lawn tractor. Well this sure makes lawn cutting too much fun and a lot quicker. About 3 hours compared to 6 hours to cut the grass. This machine has only two levers that control it. No steering wheel, no brake, no throttle. Push the levers ahead go faster, back to slow down, stop or reverse, pull either one to turn with a zero turning radius, which means very little to no trimming and amazing quick turns, can make you dizzy.
All was going well and I was going to finish before the possible rain. But had a flat tire, so had to call off cutting for the day and drop the rim off in Baden to have a new tire ordered and mounted. While I was there (10 minutes away) was a very heavy rainfall and strong winds, but hardly anything at the farm.

With all this cutting and noise I missed the earth tremor that happened mid afternoon. Sandy was in the house and did feel it shaking her desk and the water in her bottle was moving.
Further research shows the centre of the tremor to be near Gracefield Quebec.

After this excitement we had another early supper, BBQ'd hamburgers and french fries so we could make soccer practice at 6:30pm. The sun came out and we enjoyed the Soccer practice with 2 grandchildren, then back home to relax. All this weather happening here and we find out at Midland (2 hours north) a (possible?) tornado went thru a trailer park pretty well destroying most of the trailers there, luckily nobody was seriously injured. Well enough excitement for one day, lets turn in and see what tomorrow brings.
Looks like a tornado to me

Not much happening today, but I will still do a posting, just because thats how I start my day.

Today was bright and sunny 74f (25c) but a very cool north wind again. Suzie took the car for an 8.45 am doctors appointment in Kitchener then back home. I puttered around for a while and then took Sandy to New Hamburg for a bit of shopping. A short drive to check out a painting job. A nice relaxing day is enjoyable for a change, just putter about, compute  and read. Then an early supper of BBQ'd ham steaks, baked potatoes, veggies, tossed salad and strawberries w/ ice cream for desert.

      Thanks for checking in today!

Mon. June 21st.

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

Today is the first day of summer and the longest day of the year. I was so overwhelmed that I slept in until almost 8:00am. Boy that really screws up your day, everything at least 2 hours behind.  It was sunny, warm and not too windy. I ran a few errands in the morning then some lunch. After noon I went to Waterloo and put a driveway sealer on mom's neighbours driveway then back home for a nice spaghetti dinner made with rice noodles and a tossed salad. Then the day was over before I knew it.

Happy Father's Day

An absolutely beautiful day again. The view and of course the ever present distinctive smell of a dairy farm. Morning coffee and a walkabout the property to take a few pictures.

Then a quick trip into town to collect on our winning lottery ticket!! $10.00 prize, now its starting to pay off. Back home I washed our car and enjoyed the outdoors. We were going to take Suzie's father out for lunch but they were going her aunts, so we invited ourselves there and enjoyed a nice early afternoon supper of BBQ'd chicken, fresh peas, mashed potatoes, caesar salad and fresh strawberries for desert. And father's day afternoon with her father and uncle.

Following this nice visit we returned home to relax in the shade a bit, enjoy a book and socialize with Suzie's brother and sister in-law and of coarse Omer the dog on a nice warm evening.

And oh yes I did receive phone calls from my children to wish me a very Happy Father's Day. That made my day.
Omer, good dog

Another nice bright morning and a view of the calm lake outside our front window. We enjoyed this over our morning coffees then packed up and head out at 9:30am. Now we have been away from a campground for 12 days and we do need to empty our waste water tanks, so off to the Lindsay City dump where the sewage dump is only a $5.00 fee. We departed here at 10:30 am and headed south to hwy 401 and west thru Toronto to the Cambridge service centre where we stopped for a picnic lunch.  Then from there thru to Plattsville, disconnect the car and arriving at the farm 1:30 pm. Set up here, chat with our hosts, relax for a bit then chicken wings and fries for supper, a nice sunset and fall asleep with a movie. Its been a busy week....

Overnight we had a light rain but it was warm. Morning sunshine and a view of the lake is beautiful with even a large flock of turkey vultures on the boathouse roof.

After a quick trip to town we began the process of sanding and painting the long wrought iron railing around the upper deck overlooking the lake. We did have lotsa fun doing this, got some sunshine and a worthwhile job done for the day. After this we relaxed with a happy hour, then a yummy supper of BBQ'd chicken, potato salad, tossed salad and melon. Then enjoy the view of the lake before calling it a night.

A nice bright day and a great view of the lake. We had our coffees and chatted with sis and brother in law then we took off into Lindsay with our car to check for a sewage dump station for our coach and a bit of shopping.
Back to the house we had a bit of lunch then sat on the lower deck overlooking the lake for a while.
Checked out Pauls '63 Ford Cruise car.
Then I sealed up the roof window on their Roadtrek, while sis made a great supper of corned beef potatoes and carrots, with a yummy chocolate cake for desert.

Then a relaxing evening with a great view.
