Where are we today?
Stratford, Ontario
Today was not a good day for George. Over the past week he has been in pain on and off. I think the pain has tired him out. He has been resting most the of day.
The doctor was in and his pain medication has been increased slightly.
I am staying tonight because earlier today, the Weather Network showed freezing rain overnight tonight and I wanted to make sure I would be able to get here to the hospice in the morning. The weather people are guessing. Now it looks like freezing rain tomorrow afternoon or evening.
George is at the Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice. https://www.rotaryhospice.ca/. Click on the link and if I did it correctly, it will take to the hospice website. You can check it out if you want. It really is the best source of information about this facility.
This is an awesome facility. Everyone here is caring and not just to the people in residence but to the family members as well. A day doesn't go by that someone asks if they can get you something. This is really a home away from home. The little things matter, like daily fresh baked treats and home made soup at no cost the anyone who wants something. The baked treats are often times hard to turn down.
There is a posted area that shows the contributors to get this hospice up and running.
There are 4 Visionary's, 14 Benefactor's, 20 Patron's, 26 Partner's, 34 Supporter's and 70 Companion's. The hospice was responsible for the bulk of the construction costs as well as raising an additional $800,000 annually to keep the hospice running. There are 10 rooms here but only sufficient funding to support 8.
Today was a tough day not just on George and myself but also on the staff. They are so use to seeing him up and about, giving them a hard time (in fun of course) and that fabulous smile.
Thanks for your prayers and best wishes.

Sorry to hear George isn't doing well. Hope the increase in meds helps him. Hope you both have a good nights sleep. This hospice facility sounds like a great place and from what I see it is filled with caring staff. Also glad you are staying the night to be close by and not have to chance traveling in bad weather. Sending prayers for you and George as always.
ReplyDeleteThank you Suzie. Hopefully the increase in medication will help ease his pain. I'm sure it is very hard on everyone there at the Hospice but especially for you and George. Our prayers are with you both. What a wonderful blessing that you both get to take advantage of such hospitality.
ReplyDeleteSending hugs from across the miles.
So very sorry that Georges's pain is wearing him out. Hopefully within another day or so it will be back under control. Good idea that you spent the night as that is a huge storm affecting your area. Hugs to you both.

Wise choice to stay overnight Suzie. You being nearby is a comfort to George I'm sure and to yourself as well. It is easy to tell from the blog writings how wonderful the people and staff are to everyone. Hopefully George will respond to the increase in the medication and that it eases the pain. You both are in our thoughts.
ReplyDeleteOur thoughts and prayers are with both you and George Suzie. I think of George most mornings when I head out for my walk at 5:45, he is one of the few people I know who enjoys the early morning hours as much as I do.
ReplyDeletePrayers that the adjustment in George's medication keeps the pain at bay. The staff at the Hospice sounds so caring not just of George but you and your family as well. It is wonderful that you have the choice to stay the night if you so choose giving you both peace of mind. Hugs to you both.
ReplyDeleteThanks for today's update, Suzie. The Stratford folks do a good job of treating the whole family, not just George. Glad you are able to spend the night together when it is called for. Continued prayers.
ReplyDeletePrayers that the doctor will be able to get the medications adjusted for George. Prayers also for you Suzie knowing this is a difficult time for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update Suzie. Good that you are able to stay when necessary. Hopefully the med adjustments will help George. We think of you guys often.
ReplyDeletePraying for both of y’all
ReplyDeleteSo sorry George isn't feeling well. Praying that he will begin feeling better with a tiny bit more pain meds. I hate this feeling of helplessness and sadness.
ReplyDeleteIt is such a blessing that George is in such a wonderfully caring place. And it is equally wonderful that they are so helpful and caring of the family as well. I pray they will be able to keep George comfortable and pain free. I have looked at the website for the Hospice. It is a remarkable place.
ReplyDeleteSending lot of prayers for you both. I'm so glad you are in a facility that takes care of him and you!
ReplyDeleteYou are both in my prayers
ReplyDeletePrayers that the change in medication provides relief for the pain George has been having. Everyone there seems to really care about you and your family!
