Swap Meet in Calexico a fun time!

Where are we today ?
Ok will not tell you how nice it was here ok?  39 f this morning at 4:30 am so had to wear a hoody and t shirt with my shorts.  But people still heading to the hot springs at 6 am,  house coats  though. Cold yeah. But then the sun came up and got nice and comfy,74f .
About 8:30 we headed off to the Wednesday "Swap" meet (flea Market) in Calexico California, right across the border from Mexicali, Mexico. Read the city names and you know where we are!  Too cool, almost like a going to Mexico. All the signs are in Spanish, most of the vendors are from Mexico and the prices are awesome. Not fancy, pretty junky in fact but some great deals to be had if you care to rummage around. But we sure had a lot of fun for a few hours.
a 20 minute drive through amazing irrigated
farmland here in the desert
truck load of mattresses
need appliances? cheap
clothes ? real good deals most things one dollar
childrens shoes, real cute
nice models but I really like the one in Black !
Pants, Bikinis one dollar
The atmosphere, the people the weather made for a fun few hours here.
We followed a few others here and agreed to meet at Carl's Jr, next door at 11 am for a bite to eat. After a few hours walking in the sun and heat we were ready for a snack. Suzie had a chicken cheese Quesadia  and me a beef, meat, bean and cheese burrito, hit the spot and we had an awesome fun time.
bunch of us here at Carl's Jr
Next door was a grocery store Food for Less so we picked up a few supplies and headed back to "home dirt" (thats our campsite).
Notice we are at Sea Level here in the desert by Calexico
Relaxing in shade for while with our books then the "Happy Hour" with neighbors (12 today) More stories, more fun, a few snacks and lies sure makes for a fun social time.
Soon time to fire up our Weber Q and put the baked potatoes on. Then as the sun begins to set, we head home to finish up supper in our Q.
wonderfull sunset
For supper tonight a nice T bone steak got on sale for $5.40 (half price), baked taters, mushrooms, onions, broccoli and a fresh garlic bun all done on our Q.
Sure hit the spot a tender steak dinner for two
about $7.00 total cost, sure can;t beat that.
That was it for a nice fun day here in the desert, love this dry camping.
We have it made, thanks for stopping on by.

  1. HAHaaaa … I cracked up when I saw the truckload of mattresses.. don't exactly know why that's funny. I once ended up behind a turnip truck coming of Mexico…. liked to have had a wreck trying to get a picture of a real honest to pete turnip truck.

Swap meets are fun…. well, good swap meets ;) good looking food, as always, George… it's freezing rain outside … I don't like it.

    1. Not sure how many did, don't want to make you people in the cold feel too bad.
It was very tasty, sure beats going out for an expensive steak dinner.

  9. Never thought of doing mushrooms or broccoli on the BBQ. Did you put some butter on them in the foil?

    1. Yes just a bit of butter and a spice if you wish. Can use olive oil too, Don't overcooks the veggies just long enough to make them warm and tender.
