The house is a wrap and soon we can move on!

Where are we today ?
Now in Plattsville for a bit I can walk to Pettigrew's Garage in the early morning and chat with the guys for a bit. Left here at 7 am and home shortly after 8. Love my early morning walks. We puttered around here topped up our fresh water tank then off to New Hamburg and finsihng up with her Mom and Dad's house.
A few things to wrap up and the Thrift store arrived about 10 to take what they could resell. That left us with only a pickup truck full of things that we could take to the dump. So her brother and I loaded his truck on off to the dump. Less then and hour we back here, Suzie has washed all the floors and I finished all the vacuuming, now we done!
Truck from the Thrift Store
Now its 1pm so down the street to Mc'Ds for a fish sandwich, (not something we enjoy, but) gotta have a bite, and dropped Suzie off to visit her Mom and Dad. Her Mom was transferred this morning to the retirement home and in her Dad's room, until a long term room becomes available. At least he will not have to drive an hour hour every day to visit with her.
      House done, empty and cleaned.
family room downstairs
workshop, furnace room

       Bedrooms below too.

After a few errands here in town, picked up Suzie and visit with her Mom and Dad then back to Plattsville shortly after 2 o'clock. Got a call (from Sicards RV) that the repair part for our toilet was in, so a quick 80 minute drive each way to pick it up. But while there found out they had a new porcelain toilet on sale for only $9.00 more the our repair part on a 16 year old toilet. Now getting late so back home to research this item and discuss with Suzie. So far looks like I will take the part back and purchase the new toilet. More research involved first.
Supper time so put together a tasty salad and grilled a couple pork chops (gotta feed Suzie) thats my job ya know.
pork chops and a couple zucchini pieces too
A bit of sauerkraut, hot peppers
 and raspberries for me too
A great day, got stuff done and and just wrapping up loose ends.
Thanks for taking a peek again, glad you stopped on by.
Check out the interactive map below to see where we have been this past Winter.

  1. I'd be sighing a big sigh of relief... but I bet you're just taking it all in stride. What an enormous job you two have done since your fast trip from the SW back to Canada a few months ago. You're probably just saying, well, it's family... but still, Congratulations on a job well done!

  6. The house looks immaculate. The family moving in on Friday are going to be so happy to see it in such great shape as they start a new adventure in their lives.

Great news that Suzie's parents are together once again. I sure hope that the long term care room is going to be in the same facility that the assisted living appt. is in. That would be perfect.

I vote on the new toilet. Certainly worth the $9.00 as long as the install will be smooth.

    1. Maybe a modification or 2 but should be no problem at all.

  7. What a transformation! I am so happy for you and Suzie. It hasn't always been easy, but you persevered and the task is done. So glad to read Suzie's mom was transferred. Way excited for the both of you as now you can get back to your own lives for awhile. Hope traveling south again is on the agenda for next fall!

  8. Congrats on getting this all behind you, what a task that was! I'm amazed that new toilets cost less than parts to repair them, something is wrong with that picture. :cO

    1. Thanks, the toilet we have is and older Thedford, complicated and more expensive. The new one much simpler and less expensive for part , plus a porcelain bowl, bonus.

  10. The house sure looks good - lucky new owners are getting a move-in ready home. You must both be so happy to have that all behind you. It's a huge job.

I find often it's not worth fixing something unless it's under warranty. Might as well replace it for a few dollars more and get a new one.

    1. I have bought and sold 11 homes and know what we like and expect to do the same for others.
One dealer wanted over $400. for a new toilet so we fix, but a call to Sicards, love dealing there, great service and prices.
