Cajun Music is awesome!

Where are we today ?
More wonderful weather here in Abbeville La. Great sleep windows open all is good here. Morning walkabout on the street behind Betty's revels a wooden Woodpecker in the tree, kinda nice to see but not making any noise.
a Cajun Woodpecker?
Then a walk down Lovers lane. Pretty quiet for 7:30 on a Saturday morning, wonder why???
Enjoying this nice warm weather here and after a run to the store and a light lunch we enjoyed reading outside for a while in the shade.
Now at 1:40 we had a plan head out to Touchet's Bar (pronounced 2 Checks) in Maurice Louisiana only about 20 minutes away. Information on their dates for the original Cajun Jam sessions is HERE.
Today is the Jam session that we stayed here an extra day to check out. Heading up 167 almost missed the place. Unassuming spot in the middle of nowhere, but this is the place we wanna be.

They used to offer some great homemade gumbo, but now the staff hosts cracklin’ cook-off parties a couple times a year (as a fundraiser), and they set up spacious tents on the side of the place. During the open jam sessions, celebrity Cajun musicians often show up and play, so it’s always a treat. The drinks are well-made and inexpensive, there’s a small dance floor, and the regulars are ultra-friendly. Owner Derek Touchet inherited the bar from his father. “It used to be a gas station, a bar and a barber shop when my grandfather opened it,” he says.

    Jam Sessions every other Saturday!
We arrived about 2 o'clock and the band started playing with about 7 people right now.
We were immediately recognized as new comers and the band wanted to know where we were from and did we come from Betty's! Yep we were tagged, then the bar lady brought us a couple beer cozies  for Touchet's, very useful and a nice souvenir. Ordered 2 beer only $5.00 . like wow! where does this ever happen? Free cozies, cheap drinks and free entertainment. Even a bottle of water only $1.00!
our beer cozies
We relaxed and listen to the band Jamming and playing some real nice interesting Cajun music started with 7 members, playing. Then every so often a few would take a rest and few more would join in. Excellent Cajun style music nonstop, no break. gotta love it!
See that guy on guitar in the red shirt? He is 84 years old.
His girlfriend was on drums and accordion 35 years old !
Must have something to do with the swamp water here!
The music is very catchy and enjoyable sure do love it, these guys are all good!
Below is a short 10 second video I took, you can view it if you like, a small sample of what we enjoyed.

Few people dancing on the small dance floor. A few band members stopped by to talk to us, everyone here so very friendly. The guy on the dance floor(guitar player) had ridden his motorcycle through Ontario a few summers ago and loved it!
This fellow below was showing a few ladies from Betty's how to use his accordion, they even got to try it out!
Carol checking it out
Nancy playing us a tune
Some interesting articles on the walls, but could not get good shots of them. A nice article in National Geographic a few years ago.
Before long there was 14 of us from Betty's here to enjoy a great Jam session, we were the first to leave just after 5 o"clock,  just as more players showed up to jam, but was starting to get dark and we wanted to head home and have supper tonight. Something have not had since we have been here. Just Happy hour snacks. Figured we had three hours of fun times this afternoon, lets take a break.
most of our group from Betty's
the dance floor was busy we even got up too!
the guy in the middle with spoons and a washboard,
very good too.
That's was our fun day, great weather, amazing Cajun music and a nice supper that I actually cooked at home, no Weber Q tonight, we are on the road in the morning.
Fish burger and a green salad sure hit the spot!
Thanks again for stopping on by and joining our day here in Cajun country. So much to see and do, but we need to get back on the road for a bit. We are sure we will be back here someday too.

Gotta get back to my Weber Q soon
