Desert Hot Springs, to Pilot Knob Resort in CA, visit fellow bloggers and friends along the way, a perfect day!

Where are we today ?
We are ready to hit the road this morning and boy are we excited. Love getting going again, not in a hurry to get to cold weather but a week in the Yuma AZ area, will be HOT and we love hot!
Headed on down the side roads through Sky Valley a very nice drive, good roads, kinda like a roller coaster.
towards sky valley
Then the west side of the Salton Sea, lotsa green houses and vineyards, amazing to see in the desert!

On through Brawley Ca. we stopped for an early lunch at Carl's JR. A rare treat for us! Grilled cod fillet on a bun, it was actually very good. Sorry no pic.

Then a bit further down the road to Holtville CA, notice the old water tower?

From here we headed into the Hot Springs BLM to stop and visit with Peter and Beatrix of ( American Traveler Blog fame) we met them here two years ago at the same spot. They are from Campobello Island in New Brunswick Canada. Such a supper couple they are, so glad that we coukd meet up with them again. Could have chatted all day, but we had people to see and places to go.

can spot their van right here
no island tours today, hmm,
no Island here, they on vacation
we parked beside them for our visit
But we cannot leave this area without stopping to say good bye to our other friends here as well. So visit Oscar, Judy, Ailene and Don from Northern Ontario (Kenora, Dryden area) stayed here with them over the years all really great people too.
We had an early social hour,  and that was fun too,
but need to get going to our Pilot Knob Resort

hey thats me, selfie, not too bad eh ?
Gotta get on down the road now, past the Imperial Sand dunes and check in. But the resort is on Arizona time. We got there at 3:15 pm but 4:15 pm Arizona time. Office closed. No problem security checked us in to the site of our choice 161, right next to the site we had last December, behind the gazebo.

Checked in at 4:15 and all set up by 5 o'clock, satellite dish, Weber Q , lawn chairs and a cold beer. Perfect! Relaxed for a bit, then fire up the Q,

wonderful sunset here in the desert
Quick and easy supper tonight, a couple grilled salmon fillets, rice pilaf and a fresh bun that we shared, sure hit the spot.
salmon perfect on our Weber Q

That was it for our wonderful travel day, not too far and visit a few friends along the way.
Thanks for dropping on by and hope you had a great day too. Keep warm where ever you are!

    1. They were right on the way to our destination. Figured a short visit is better than no visit, We have had years of practice on setting up camp so it goes real smooth.

  4. Thanks for stopping by for a spell! While it was only a short drive to your new spot at Pilot Knob, your day was surely packed with activities. Wasn't that a beautiful sunset - I took a similar photo with that same streak of gold and silver - funny that you could see it from your spot too.

  5. What a day that was but it sounded like a fun day too. We like the Pilot Knob RV park and it's location. However, most of the time they have picked our spot and not us. Maybe the secret is to go in after the office is closed.

    1. If we know the park and what sites we like, just ask if they are available, we do that in a lot of places, usually no problem, if not we take what they give us.

  7. Sounds like your set up plan is the same as mine ending with lawn chairs and a cold beer. We've not been to the part of the world you are in but hope to make it out that way soon.

  8. We've been caught with that Arizona/California time problem at Pilot Knob. What BLM area near Yuma do you recommend?

    1. We have used the LTVA right behind the resort is pretty decent, or even a 15 day free area not far from there either. Or there appears to be lots of free areas near the road to Algodones too. Lots of choices.
