Another year not being able to celebrate his birthday.
Happy Birthday Sweetie
I have made a couple of purchase in the last couple of months. The first is a new coffee perk. It works perfect for me as I can make 2 cups of fresh coffee each morning.
New Perk
The old perk still works great and will not be going anywhere anytime soon. It is great for making 12 cups and as far as I am concerned, it still makes the best coffee. The new one takes about 3 minutes to perk and the old one took about 15 minutes. For the old one, I needed to be close for when it started to perk so the temperature could be turned down to slowly perk.
Another purchase was an Air Fryer.
Gourmia 6 quart Air FryerItems that came with the fryer
I having keeping busy and following the rules. With the warmer weather coming, I will be able to read outside instead of inside. Reading is my favourite past time. 8" pan that fits perfect in the basket
I put the multi-purpose rack in first, then add the crisper tray. The 8" pan goes on top of the crisper tray. The majority of air frying is done this way. It saves me from washing the basket after each use. Instead of the 8" pan, any container that is oven and microwave safe can be used. For me it works perfect and not having to use the oven, which takes longer to cook.
I have learned that whatever the directions say in the book that came with the Air Fryer, you need to cut the time in half (at least) and check for doneness. I did fish and chips the first time and they were way overcooked. I have done recipes from the blog and adjusted the cook time accordingly and made notes on the recipes I have printed out. Mostly everything has turned out great and taste similar to BBQing on the Weber.
I have had success with bacon wrapped scallops and french fries, pork tenderloin, chicken breast, chicken wings, reheating pizza and salmon. Need to work on the pork ribs to get them the way George always had them so they fall of the bone. A beef roast, I still do in the slow cooker. I found a recipe for Apple Crisp that I have not perfected yet. The next attempt will be to cover the dish with Tin Foil and see how that works. You can bake in the Air Fryer, but I find the oven easier for baking items like the Pecan Tarts.
Time to re-organize. I have been looking for containers to put sugar, flour etc. in. A friend had the 6 top containers that she didn't need anymore. They work great. I have replaced the bags with the containers. Very easy to see what is in them.
On the second shelf, if found containers at Zehr's to put items that I could smaller amounts in, like baking soda, icing sugar, oats and coffee. Another great find.
The last purchase is a three tier shelving unit for my spices. The unit can be extended to hold the spices.
Of course, the spices are sorted in alphabetic order except the first shelf as they are the spices I use the most. Now it is easier for me to find the spice I need.
Looking forward to going to Rock Glen Family Resort and stay in a cabin, but since Ontario is still in a Stay At Home order for the time being, I can't go. I will go, when I can.
Thanking everyone in advance of your comments.
Happy Birthday George!
ReplyDeleteI’ve considered getting an air fryer... sounds like the model you have works well.
I like those plastic containers you are using for your dry food... they are a good size. Everything looks nicely organized.
We too are enjoying this warmer weather, it’s nice to be spending time outside again.
Take care,
Kim
I love my air fryer, perfect for two people. Very nice to be able to be outside.
ReplyDeleteSo good to hear from you Suzie! Sounds like you've got the cooking down pat! I'm still working on the air fryer thing. As for organization, doesn't it make you feel good? I do love to have my cupboards where I can actually find what I need.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday George!!! Interesting he and I are just a few days apart!! He was such a good soul!!! I think of you two often.
I believe I am. Certainly not starving. It does feel good to be organized. I think I have more to do. Thanks for thinking of us.
DeleteHappy Heavenly Birthday George. So wonderful to get an update from you Suzie. I dont have an air fryer but folks who have one sure seem to enjoy theirs. I think I need you to come to my house and organize my kitchen.
ReplyDeleteNice try on organizing your kitchen.
DeleteHappy Birthday George! I know Fran would like an air-fryer, as healthier way for her to cook.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you have many fond memories of your stays at Rock Glen Family Resort. Hope you can get there soon.
I’m sure I will get to Rock Glen several times this year.

ReplyDeleteLove that your continuing the blog Suzie!
ReplyDeleteMoving from RV into fixed abode is sure a challenge. My late husband was an RV resident when I met him. When we decided to make a life together, we used the RV seasonally, but he eventually sold the RV and moved here to the farm with me. It was a big change trying to sort things out.
ReplyDeleteIt all takes time.
DeleteYou doing good Suzie !
ReplyDeleteHappy Heavenly Birthday, George!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a nice air fryer that is the next purchase on our list. Something that will work for two of us but not take up to much space. I had to smile when we lived in our house I had my spices set up exactly the same way on a three tier expandable unit...😊 Fingerscrossed Ontario opens up and you get to spend some time at Rock Glen. Take care. Hugs, Deb and Tom
It takes up enough space but never makes into a cupboard. Going the have leftover chicken wings and fries tonight of course reheat in the air fryer. This was a great purchase.

ReplyDeleteWe still miss hearing what George was up to during his days.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are finding ways to better suit your needs.
Be Safe and Enjoy
It's about time
Thank you.
DeleteHappy Birthday George! It's funny how often you two make it into our conversations :) So glad to hear you are doing well and finding things that suit you! I can't believe how good the "old perk' looks after so much time :) People really seem to love their air fryers! Love the containers for your kitchen cabinet! Again so nice to hear from you and that life is good. Hugs
ReplyDeleteThe old perk is not really old. We replaced the same kind several years ago. Thanks for the hugs.
DeleteHi Susie, nice to see you are doing well. I love organizing my kitchen, closets etc. but not much room in the MH. Looks great. I would love to have an Air Fryer. My sister uses hers often.
ReplyDeleteI am having a wine in Honour of the Birthday Boy, George, here's to you!!!!!! Do miss him and his positive additude to life. A great Man. Jim is doing better each day but not over yet. It is an autoimmune disease. He seems really well but lots of meds involved and healing. Take care and thanks for being in touch. Hugs, Sharon and Jim
I had chicken wings and fries and raise a toast to him. I’m really glad that Jim is getting better. Hugs back to you guys.
DeleteWe sure miss seeing what was on the grill! As time passes, memories become stronger. Feliz Cumpleaños!
ReplyDeleteThe grill has been replaced with the air fryer as I can’t have a bbq at the apartment.
DeleteHappy Birthday, George!! Love the organization, Suzie. Finding the perfect containers for our ease and need makes a world of difference. With the narrow cupboard we have on the right hand wall, I had to find just the right cannisters.
ReplyDeleteYou're doing awesome and eating well! yay! Sure hope things open up soon so people can get out and camp again. We're lucky so far to be able to live the camping life regardless of restrictions.
Take care!
I'm patiently waiting to be able to go to Rock Glen. Haha.
DeleteHappy birthday, George! Sorry, I arrived late but so glad to see your post. I was just thinking of Rock Glen the other day and what a lovely place it is. Thanks to your blog I learned so many things about Canada that I never knew before like that it gets hot in the summer! For some unknown reason, I thought it was always cold...I know silly me :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for continuing the blog. Sending a cyber hug your way.
Thank you Suzie for your review of the Air Fryer.
DeleteYou are welcome.
