"On the road again" a great travel day and a bit of and ouchy!

Where are we today ?
We are on the road at 8:20 this morning making our way east. Good bye Arizona it's been an awesome winter! Zip thru New Mexico, into Texas and decided to stop at the Flying J for the night.  Was 2:40pm and we had enough travelling for the day. Besides it was 81 f  suits us just perfect.
295 miles today
Leaving Arizona
Las Cruces rest Area
Leaving New Mexico
Entering Texas
Now did a bit of an "ouchy" driving thru a construction zone this morning with the large orange cones on the passenger side, the left side had a slight drop, a very narrow lane. I did pretty good until one misplaced cone just jumped right out and hit the side of our coach. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. No dints just some paint scratches most of the way down the side of the coach. I should be able to buff them out once we are settled in a campground for a few days.
One cone like this jumped out and attacked us!
a few minor scratches
This Flying J has been remodelled and not so RV friendly anymore. I checked inside and they have no designated RV parking anymore, just fit in where ever we can. Certainly won't park with the trucks at the back but we did grab a spot that suited us.
So just relax for a bit enjoy our books, compute, walkabout the store for a while, check out all the interesting stuff we don't need. Then whip up a salad and heat up our spaghetti casserole for supper. Sure hit the spot.
A bit more computing and watch the tube for a few minutes before calling it a night.
That was it for a great travel day, sunshine, clear skies, not too much wind and traffic.
A couple more travel days then we sit still for a bit.
Just taking our time looking for warm weather. And so far we have it.
Was so nice of you to drop in by for a visit, y'all come back now, hear?

Early spring cleaning while the weather is perfect here.

Where are we today ?
Just another fine day here, last one for us. Our good friends Rob and Pat are on the road at 8 am and we said our goodbyes. But we will see them down the road in a few days in Glen Rose Texas if all works out for us.
Now with wonderful weather here we have the time to do some early spring cleaning, Wash the windows, remove the screens and get rid of all the desert dust. Suzie vacuums buckets of dust from our coach, I did a couple loads of laundry. Even gave myself a haircut outside with this wonderful warm weather, last chance for a while. (Suzie trimmed the edges)
Standard stuff like check tire pressures, pack up our Weber Q, much too windy today, 25 mph winds  (sure glad we are not in the road).
AND we even got to read our books for a couple hours outside in the shade. This afternoon, now is that not almost a perfect day?
overcast but still quite warm
Eventually gonna whip up supper. A huge pot of spaghetti sauce, with ground beef, fresh mushrooms, onions, zucchini, garlic and tomato sauce.
Made enough that we will have leftovers for one or two nights on the road in the near future, works good for us.
nice feast of spaghetti tonight
Then we have one more amazing Arizona sunset to end our stay here. How awesome is that?
       Where did the day go?
another wonderful sunset
Just wanna thank y'all for stopping by again. In the morning we heading east, slowly making our way back to Ontario. No rush though, we have the time and still too cold back there.

Book exchanges and found a new Saturday market in town.

Where are we today ?
Just sounding like a broken record here. Sunshine, hot days and cold nights, love it ! Night time temps in the mid 40's f good for sleeping, typical in Arizona. Now day time temps at this time of year are amazing! We love the heat.
9 am we head to the clubhouse for fresh baked, Pecan rolls or cinnamon rolls. Of course we choose the pecan rolls on the left and share one, so nice, hot and sticky!
oh so good, a rare treat for us.
Then into Benson to exchange some of our read books at our favorite book exchanges here. First store we got $19.50 credit and bought a bunch more here cost $11.95. She will not take all our books.
Then around the corner stopped at Marry Ann's. She will take all the rest of our books and got a $21.00 credit. picked out a bunch more and now we are good to go for a while longer.
Now we ended up with another 13 paperbacks that we love to read, no kindles for us yet. If I can't read my paperback outside in my chair I just don't read. I do have all kinds of free books on my computer, but it is just not the same for me.
our haul today
After leaving here just down the street we found a Saturday Marketplace right by the Benson Museum. Never knew it was here after all the years we have stopped in the Benson area. So just had to stop by and check it out.
Wander about for a while, chat with vendors an purchase a mini pecan pie with shortbread crust and tiny banana loaf with pecans, for some snibbles later on. Losta pecans in this area.
in the Benson Museum
Then back home for a light lunch and enjoy our books it the shade for a while.
just love the clear blue skies here
Now looking at the temperatures outside in the sun its pretty hot look below.
in the sun its brutal
in the shade much better, but remember no humidity
We do have a very light breeze so it is quite comfortable in the shade.
After a final Happy hour (for a few days) with our friends Rob and Pat I fired up our Weber Q to grill a couple marinated chicken kebobs I made, and grilled taters.
low and slow does it on our Weber Q
steamed a bit of broccoli with cheese, hit the spot
then another excellent Arizona sunset to wind down our day
Glad that you cared to drop on by again and hope you had a good day too.!

Not much going on, enjoying our last few days here in the sun.

Where are we today ?
Just another sunny Arizona day, clear blue skies and perfect temperatures. What's not to like? Really enjoying my early morning walkabouts, the warmth of the early morning sunshine is just wonderful.
I took a few pics of an interesting bird this morning but the lighting was not right so did not turn out. I wish they would have.
Then we headed into Benson to our book exchanges and searched out a Country Music and Poetry  festival thats in the area. Thought it would be fun, but is a very small town event on a ranch in the desert. And after checking things out it appears most of the fun things happening would be late at night and relatively expensive with local bands. We are not really late night people any more, especially out on the backroads here in the desert. Think it is more geared to the local young people in the area.
the road to the ranch
Next was to go to our favourite book exchange in town, but heck, she was closed today, for some reason, no problem she will be open tomorrow. Then we back home for a light lunch and putter around a while. I fiddled with our bike cover, then we had a chance to enjoy our books in  the sun, shade, sun, shade with the light breeze that just kept us moving about.
loving the clear blue Arizona skies
About 4 pm a nice "Happy hour" with our friends Rob and Pat then time to fire up our Weber Q. Grill a couple salmon burgers, and zucchini slices.
add to that the leftover macaroni salad from our broasted
chicken the other day and we had wonderful supper.
That was it for our fun day hope you enjoyed yours too.
Thanks for dropping by and hope y'all come back again.

Our counter did not show up but only 19 days left and we be back to Ontario, sure hope it warms up there.

Finished waxing our coach and a couple more books, is that not awesome?

Where are we today ?
Just another wonderful sunny warm day here. Cool nights good for sleeping and wonderful sunny days.
Early morning walkabouts, check out the ducks and geese in the ponds. A few flowers and cactus makes for a great beginning.
sleeping duck
another sleeping duck
ducks and one goose
Duck social time
barrel cactus in bloom
pool is quiet at 7:30am
Now back home after all my coffees, computing and walkabouts. Shortly after 8 am, I got an energy spirt and decided to wax the drivers side side of our coach. It is in the  shade until about 9 am. So Maguire's is so easy, wipe on, wipe off and all done. Now I am almost all done the whole coach.
Next a quick trip to Benson for a few groceries.  Saw this cool helicopter on a trailer behind this guys pickup truck. Think maybe it would be nice to have one behind our coach, instead of a car whadda think?
the perfect towed
Then the afternoon was perfect to finish off a couple books and enough shade to wash and wax the rear of our coach. The whole coach is now waxed again, and still looking pretty good for 15 years old.
Done just in time for our "Happy Hour" with Rob and Pat. Tell a few lies and share tips with each other. Until time for supper.
Tonight Suzie wanted me to use up the oldest meat in our freezer, so pulled out a package of leftover turkey we had. Lets make a Turkey stroganoff with some homemade noodles we were given.
Just threw things together, ( mushrooms, onions, garlic, zucchini, red pepper, fried up  add to a mushroom gravy, add some sour cream and spread over noodles) we had a very tasty supper. Kinda windy for the Weber Q and was a nice change. But Suzie now has more dishes to wash when I cook inside, hmmm can't win...
Turkey Stroganoff hit the spot
We had another fun productive day here in the sunshine of south east Arizona.
Hope you had a good one too, thanks for taking a peak!

Where are we today ?
St. David Rv park, Arizona
Remember you can click on some pics to make the larger
Did we have fun today? yep we did. We did a day trip to the Chiricaha National  Monument park. A longer day trip than we like to do but have put if off for quite a few years.
Our friends Rob and Pat (lady girl too) joined us and we were on the road before 10am. Ninety minutes later we arrived after a nice desert drive.
nice drive through the desert
here we are
I took way to many pictures today but will just let a few of them tell you how we had such a wonderful tour of this amazing natural scenery. We toured the park up to an elevation of 6780 ft above sea level. The rock formations are really mind boggling.

check in at the visitor center,  5 dollar pass is good for 7 days
We watched an 8 minute video then continued  our tour
 Sugar Loaf montain elevation here

We reached Massai Point shortly after noon and enjoyed a nice picnic lunch that we had packed. But it was very windy and quite cool here, at least we found a nice sunny spot.
a nice picnic but very windy
interesting trees here at the summit
Now heading back down and enjoy more amazing scenery, it is really mind boggling.

After we left here thought we would check out Fort Bowie on the way home, not too far away.
8 miles down this road to Fort Bowie
By the time got here it was after 3 pm and found out it was a 1.5 mile walk to the Fort each way. Decision was, not today, so from hear we headed back to our camp in St. David.
cool camper
Heading back we drove through a minor dust store, kinda like a snow blizzard back home but very warm and not slippery.
Did a quick tour around Historic Downtown Wilcox only about 2 blocks long, really kind of nicely done.
Theatre
Rex Allen Museum
Finally back home after 4 pm and a short Happy Hour, fire up our Weber Q, bake a couple taters, fresh mushrooms and onions in foil, very tender bacon wrapped filet mignon and some steamed broccoli really hit the spot.
sure hit the spot tonight
and once again a lovely Arizona sunset
Thanks for joining us today it was wonderful , Oh did I mention it was very warm but a very windy day, gusts over 30 mph. Really had to hang on to our hats.
